Same here. My GTR makes 1340whp yet idles beautifully, the boost transition is phenomenal, mid range and partial-throttle is exceptional and his support via email is outstanding. I've been in many GTRs and mine is the best one yet from a calibration and drive ability standpoint.
That’s a good idea, I might have to start doing that. I’ve thought about doing clips as well where it’s the bulk of each conversation in the 5-15 minute form.
Great podcast with very useful and informative information. I'm currently running the Nostrum HPFP and DI for my WRX. I truly believe that they are sufficient to help me get to my power goal on my platform.
If running direct injection and port injection would it be beneficial to run 3 injectors? One in cylinder one on valve and one higher up in the port to assist with transient throttle?
Really good episode loaded with geat info. My question is, is there a difference in cooling or latent heat of evaporation between pump e85 (70% e) and e98 out of a barrel?
Yes. Alcohol has more latent heat of vaporization than gasoline and you have to burn more of it for a given mass of air and fuel mixture. Comparing the fuels alone by fuel mass, e98 has about 16.8% more latent heat, but when compared at their stoichiometric afr, the difference is even greater at 31.2%
say running multi point port injection, injectors that sits in the intake runner aimed at the intake valve ( b230fk with 530 head and dished piston ) for example how much will a 4 hole injector vs a 1 hole injector matter? especially older engines when the only way to make a oem engine to get more hp is to step up from single hole 337cc / min Bosch made injector to a 420-430cc / min bosch made injector, direct injection lot oh hassles yes but how much of a problem is it for a 90`s engine with port injection?
It's less relevant but it affects transient fuel and cold start. More fuel gets stuck to the intake manifold walls instead of making it into the cylinder. Not as much of an issue at steady state but transient is rough. As for cold start if you spray all the fuel into the walls it won't want to evaporate nearly as easily. Ideally you don't do this but the engine will still run, just with worse emissions and fuel economy. Just don't inject fuel at low valve lift because you will have the fuel falling into the piston as he mentions in the video.
Even with the top tier shell ? Who supposedly put a lot more detergents than the rest of the competitors in their gasoline to at prevents sludge and deposits ?
how about bad fuel that causes engine to have very little ignition advance and that causes higher exhaust temps and might start to melt valves when pushed hard on hot day
Direct injection has been around since 1925. It's nothing new. Mitsubishi introduced and mass produced an electronic direct injection system for their vehicles in 1996.
Sam barros, you stated. Running c116 on a car not tuned will make less power. That that is a myth. I uave to 100% disagree. I have extensive experience with my 94 fzr 1000. This is a carburetor bike to note your "myth" might not be taking in. I religiously loost .2 in the 1/4 mile when going from 87 octane to 100 pump and even 116 drum octane.
I suspect the issue here was most likely air/fuel ratio. These race fuels you were running have very different viscosities and densities from pump gas and your carburetor has no way to account for that. In a modern engine with fuel injection AFR is held constant and it would not be common to see any difference in power.
You guys sound all knowledgeable until you got to the birth of the turbo segment, oh wow, I learnt this stuff when I was in primary school. FYI, before ww2 and try doing a search of Auto Union. That was cringe guys, stick to what you know.
Ok we will keep our off topic discussions to ourselves from now on. we’ll have to get you on the podcast to educate us. Hopefully we will be lucky enough for you bestow your knowledge on us.
@Minnoxide no complaints from me on that idea. Sorry that did come across a bit harsh, I was just a bit shocked at the time of writing. Haha you might have to sign a NDA for the interview 😂
Pretty sure the Auto Union race cars were supercharged, not turbocharged? At least all the ones I have seen in museums have a roots blower coming right out of the front of the engine.
Sam tuned my GTR, he is the best tuner out there.

One of the best episodes I have watched in a long time, Sam is such a knowledgeable and interesting guest.
Every answer this guy had had me so excited. This dude is amazing
This is top tier information. One of the most informative podcasts I’ve heard on the topic of fuel injection tuning from a Birds Eye perspective.
What an underrated 💎 of knowledge you guys have here👌
Thank you for taking the time and effort to put something like this together🙏
This podcast is great. It's like listening to a d-sport magazine. Thanks guys! 🧡🫶
The joke is on you guys I actually paused the video and shared it with a friend a minute before you told me too. Great episode.
Can you put the time stamps in the shorts description I’d like to watch the whole conversation topic

@@Minnoxide do it! I just came from a short. never saw your channel. It could help with the views and algro. seems like a great channel. just subbed
@@Minnoxide I'm seeing no ads during the video are you being monetized?
@@tannerharcus8833same came from a short it would def help!!
I also came from the short!
Thanks guys! I learnt a lot of useful information from the 2 hours
This might be the GOAT auto pod
Guy flat out knows his stuff
Amazing episode, so many answered questions about ethanol!
Awesome. Watched start to finish.
Great info on much more than just fuel systems ( Sam Barros 👍) 0:01
Thanks super interesting, loved this.
E85 and 98 RON blends have been super reliable here for me in Australia. I've never mixed it with 95 RON or 91.
It takes time for the sludge
Holy cow, that guy is so knowledgeable. I`d love to see him on some podcast with Tom Nelson of Nelson Racing Engines. They are in the same league.
Saw a short of this episode and found it immediately

For more fuel flow yes
Look at the g16 GTS is a monster of a modern engine

I like this guy
@47:57 anyone else in for a link to said tractor pull video?
Dad has 2001 terminator hellion turbo charger putting down 580 to rear tires and runs race fuel mixture in it

It's rx8 slow. But fun to drive....😅
The dude from aftermarket industries seems to have some differing opinions on fuel system stuff.

Smart guy. A lot of GTR tuners in Australia, can barely speak English properly.
😂 as long as they tune the car properly I’m ok with it
