No it literally doesn't, bearings should only be packed 1/3 full of grease. Surprised more people don't know this
Yes, this is a truck bearing, a tapered roller bearing. Small bearings are generally used in motors and pumps. The large ones are all in heavy machinery, and the large bearings that require strong gravity generally choose double-row angular contact ball bearings. Most of the small ones are spherical bearings. Because it requires high-intensity operation.

As man who has trailer mechanic experience I’ve never seen a unit with leaf springs that big. My gosh I’ve changed some out but they’ve had three springs; this one is stacked 😅😮
Probably on a older flat bed trailer, looks pretty standard for tractor trailer units
In the United Arab Emirates, all cars have springs. The newest Volvos also have leaf springs. China is also on springs.

@@craigr6186 LOL. That little tap did absolutely nothing to that bearing. You're one of those guys that has to use a torque wrench to put lug nuts on, because you don't have the experience or ability to feel when it's tight enough.
What about leaving the grease can open and expressed to dust? That made me cringe!
If the bearing couldn't handle that, you maybe shouldn't put it on a truck
Bad idea, you dont want to introduce any hard contaminants on the bearing rollers also the installation was improper. I know it probably works most of the times but why introduce potential cause of failure.
nah mate wheel bearings need to be lubricated good enough so it requires the grease otherwise iron will be rubbing against iron and it will be problem depending on the kind of grease use then once there is heat if use the proper grease nothing will happen

В жд, ходят контролёры и следят за количеством смазки. В данном случае её слишком много, подшипник будет греться.
I always use a bearing packer. It's a lot cleaner
Sorry but I don't think these people care about that kinda stuff, furthermore, you can't really get bearing packers for such massive bearings. Even I just use my hands on my headset bearings for example.

I wouldn't be so sure, wheel bearing grease is stupid thick. I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed on top. Plus roller bearings aren't that heavy
@@kylebusc3624 Do you see the size of that thing, I bet it weighs 8 to 10 lbs. I've dropped skateboard bearings in grease on e on each side and it does the trick and they weigh grams not pounds.
@@FuctByTheGovernment I'm pretty sure the surface area would make it sit right on top of the grease instead of sinking in. Also, roller bearings are lighter than they look. 8-10 pounds is absolutely absurd it's probably closer to 2-3. Look at the ease in which the guy is handling it
@@kylebusc3624I have held bearings in my hand that's that size and what is absolutely absurd is thinking that they only weigh 2 to 3 lbs for bearing that size. The weight that the bearing is supporting is tens of tons I'm sure it weighs more 2 or 3 lbs.
@@FuctByTheGovernment they honestly don't though. I've worked in AutoZone and advance auto parts for 6 years. Go pick up a ten pound weight and you'll realize this bearing isn't 10 pounds. The box at the beginning isn't that much bigger than the dudes hand
I’d like to see a bit more between the rollers. The squeeze out on the other side should fill the gap between the cage and the race. You can over grease a bearing though, extra drag as the grease gets wrapped up around the bearing. The oil comes leaking out and you’re left with the thickener all nice and gooey on the inside.
i read about 2/3 full is optimal, since grease can hydrostatically push against the bearin when overfilled
no clue how to achieve that with household tools though

I’ve been reading about self lubricating bearings and I understand the design but I can’t understand how the design provides enough lubricant over time to avoid heat and wear.
Brass bearings in commercial washers and dryers are a great example.
You right the heat doesn’t expel. It over heats the bearings and bearing race therefore breaking apart inton tiny metal pieces
I never seen someone out the wheel seal and bearings on without pressing them all into the hub. I am not knocking it but i am going to try it
Dont, this isn't how it's supposed to be done. Dont take my word for it, look up the Meritor instructional video. I'm sure whatever my man's doing here CAN work, it's still dumb. Also that wheel seal is probably gonna leak real quick, they need to be pounded into the back of the hub and then squeezed against the axle.
I’m a Heavy duty diesel mechanic and i saw and found out greasing your wheel bearings will prevent the gear oil from cooling the bearing down therefore having the bearing to over heat and break apart. You should add gear oil to them, NOT grease.

Правильно сделано, на пицепе так делаю 3 года ходят колодки и подшипники живут хорошо. А дурачьё мажет сверху итог через примерно 20000км надо перемазывать. Если столкнётесь делайте также и неслушайте дурачков кто пихает в ступицу

You are allowed to HARD PACK a WHEEL BEARING on a NON-DRIVEN axle with grease. This isn't just a regular grease either. I use Grease with a NLGI rating of 00, which is semi fluid in my trailer wheel ends. It comes from the factory with this grease OR the grease he's using which is hard packed. He's doing it correctly. These greases also almost eliminate a wheel seal failure because the grease is thicker than an oil based lubricant. I know what you mean though... because before a few years back.. all I ever used was 80/90 or Hub Oil for lubrication.

Very inefficient way to pack a bearing. Get a grease gun with a needle point on the end and just squeeze the grease into it and roll it.
