Had an anxiety attack just watching this. Thanks HD, you had one job!
Thanks for the video Doc I'm sure riders who own a Street will appreciate this.
Oh yea I do appreciate it. It's bs how this battery is in here.
I just love having to use standard, metric, Allen, and torx tools on the same motorcycle. Thanks for brilliant engineering Harley Davidson. No wonder sales suck
Alexi Vack ya seriously, it’s like the had a bag of bolts left over and were challenged to use them all in putting a bike together....
H-D's aren't what they used to be. I bought my 2017 street to replace an 83 Honda V45 Magna. IMO, it's a real POS. No wonder people are walking away from H-D.
There are no Torx used in this service.
@@robt1161 : This thing has nothing to do with Harley, it's built in India under licence by some crap manufacturer. Stay away.
Revolution x motor was made by Porsche n now is on the new Sportster and pan america
Had to change my wife’s, hers is a 750. But pretty much the same set up, your tips really made it, we will say not so hard. And the string tip really helped. Thank you.
No point saying anything about the bike everyone else did. Your still the best Doc.
I was lucky enough to upload this clip onto my mobile phone, just in case. Got stuck in my underground garage with a completely flat battery on my Harley Street 750, no reception. Removing the battery was easy with the video clip on my mobile. All the hints made a lot of sense, string included! Also installed a new battery, took 15 minutes in all! Excellent video clip, good job Doc Harley.
That is a sad design !
I tried to jump the bike and I took me 10 mins to find the positive
Thanks for the tips Doc. I just changed the battery on my FLTRU this past weekend. You would think that would be simple enough. But - no. Of course not. Biggest problem was the lifting strap was broken and unusable. So I tied string to the battery post screws to lift it out. Worked like a charm.
Oh Hooray! A battery removal video with proper lighting! (all other one I have seen so far have been in darkened garages)...and he lists the tools at the beginning...). 1:14 This is excellent , he insists on pointing out all removal points, so when you pause or playback the video each step is easily identified & mentions the specific tool (have I finally found a pro? Im getting excited here...*continues watching more of the video* 1:38: I could be wrong but this is where i think you can attach the - trickle charger. 3.45 Amazing! There it is! The elusive battery!
4:10 This is where 'how long is a piece of string' comes into play.
I was lost but now am found... It is actually easy with your video. THANKS SO MUCH!
Dont be surprised if in some lost out of the way neighbourhood in outback Australia there is a small backyard garage , in the middle of the desert, surrounded by boat parts....with several candles burning... some incence... and in the middle of all that...a photo (covered in garlands of flowers) of Doc Harley...
Best video, superstar.
Very helpful video to get around the design issues on the Street 500. Thanks Doc 👌
Thank you Doc for another informative video.
Hello Doc, thank you for your video and the demo. I, successfully removed the battery from my HARLEY 500! Thank you!!
Muchas gracias
Brilliant vid mate

My Street 750 Battery dead in February 2023…Removed very easily at home after watching your nice and understanding video.thank you so much sir. This helps me a lot. Thanks
Really helpful, thank you
Awesome video thank you so much
Thanks for the great video. I just need to replace the inline fuse in my battery pigtail.
Thanks Doc. Very useful and the string bit REALLY saved me. Cheers
Really very helpful. I was able to remove the battery and got it charged.
Thank you very much. Very helpful video.
That was a mission. Thanks for the helpful info.
Really helped me
This helped so very much indeed, especially the string trick! Thank you!!!
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching and the kind comment...Doc
Doc , I am speechless,
It’s good to have you here, Man so clear the way you explain when you teaching.! Thank you , let me call you ; Master.
Just Doc would be fine...Thank you for your kind words...Doc
Thank you sir. Great step-by-step instructions.
Glad it was helpful…..Doc
Excellent video help. Best tip....STRING !
Thanks, Doc !
Much obliged for this post, it was very helpful today. Especially the part about the string! Mission accomplished thanks to you.
Glad it helped…..Doc
you are a legend Doc Harley!! many thanks
Thanks for the tutorial. Definitely saved me some grief.
Thanks 🙏
Way to go Harley Davidson!
I hope the design engineer/s are no longer working for HD after this.
So glad I have a Road King
The mirrors on my 2017 are pretty much useless. I have to contort my body to change lanes on freeway. I have to buy a 2nd set of posts and weld them together to get functional mirrors. Whoever set my bike up almost got me killed. They left the clutch jam but loose and sitting at a light slightly revving with clutch engaged it lurched out into traffic causing a semi to take evasive action nearly causing a deadly accident. If I had it to do over I'd avoid H-D LIKE THE PLAGUE.
love your videos Doc Harley thank you for putting them up!
Thank you for watching....Doc
Thank you for the video, I needed to access the battery on my Street 500 to attach a battery tender connection. Watching the video on the batter removal part helped, getting the battery to twist and slide out is a real phaff.
Glad it helped….Doc
This helped me so much.
Awesome 👏
excellent vid. Works for the Street Rod too.
The string tip was a life saver. huge TY liked and subscribed!
Thanks for the sub! Welcome….Doc
it was a breeze after seeing this video. Thank you so much Doc!!
That was a pain in the butt! My fingers still hurt😡. This vid helped alot TY 😀👍
What a cluster. Helped me make up my mind on a purchase.
Don’t let a battery keep you from having fun! A new M8 battery replacement is no fun either…..Doc
Got mine remove not the same way ...maybe nextime thanks for the tips 👍
Thanks my guy! Just changed mine in the dark great video
Glad we could help....Doc
I just did this to my street...should’ve watched the video first! What a pain it was. Skipped a few steps but I got the battery out 😬
Great video
Thanks for the visit….Doc
Wow, and I thought it was a pain getting to a touring bike battery haha! This one is ridiculous. Thanks for the info though.
Wow, that's a pain in the ars :) great video as usual Doc :)
Great video just a question-
The tube you say is the vapor lock has become detached somewhere from the bottom of the bike. How can I reattach it?
Thank you so much for this video. Took me 2 days part part time to change. Replaced with a Harley battery. Those batteries are heavy. Way heavier than one from autozone. All joking aside the only battery I saw that was worse was the first year Dodge Intrepid. You have to take off the driver's side fender to get to the battery.
You are so welcome...Doc
Thank you so much for this video!! I have to put battery in mine!!
Be patient and take your time....Doc
I will be attempting this tmw. Got the tools ready and string!! I already ordered my battery.
I did it!! I got my battery out just saying thanks again you made a perfect video!!
I received a text message ,is from the dealer tell me they have a available air cleaner, seems to me Will tuning soon with the new muffler. I appreciate share this with you because I’m always try to learn more and I love my bike thank you Doc.
Glad that I’m watching this, saved me from RM500 from the dealer. Peace from Malaysia
Thanks for watching so far away…Doc
Wow what a mission 😱
Thank you for the great tips! Very well done video with just enough info that is required
I am new to motorcycling but I have some experience working on car engines. I was thinking it can’t be that hard to change a battery on this bike, but it does take a lot 😂
Welcome to our two wheel world and our videos….Doc
What a pain in the ass that was! Tried using the manual to start and was ready to give up until I found this video. Thank you so much for the tutorial, but what a headache even with it 🥴
Thanks for the great video! That Vapor Lock tube that keeps getting in the way. I seem to have found the bottom of it. Does that reattach somewhere or just hang down? Thanks!
Just hangs down.....Doc
Great video Doc, now my next question... is there a way to adjust the clutch... like you can with normal HD. Behind the Darby cover...the xg500/750do not have such covers????
Yes. If you invest in a Factory Service Manual it will save you money and answer most of your questions….Doc
For the first time, I feel removing battery of my 2013 Iron 883, is a piece of cake 😂🤣
Very poor design, or rather one should say a good one but only for Harley Davidson dealers...😈
Good morning Doc, I tried to replace the muffler in my street 500, I take it to the dealer because is losing power, I just don’t want the metal Bibration saund when apply gas, I took it to the dealer and the dealer can’t fine tune for that slip on VH , The dealer told me that the muffler there is no back pressure from the muffler, do you think I have to replace the inlet air filter for the bigger one , that way the bike can bi tuning . I’m a little stuck here can you give me your opinion. Thank you Doc.
In the new asleep on
Hey where does that vapor line lead into? I just noticed mine's hanging down on the bike
Would this be the same as the 2017 750 street
Doc, ,Non of Our 2020 Softails in Au came installed with a HD Smart security System as did my 18 1200 Roadster Sportster.. I had purchased one and got pretty close to Installation having removed battery and cover behind back wheel and big Caddy just couldn't separate the plastic section to slot Siren in..PLEASE Can You Do a Video for Us as I live 900 ks to closest dealer and they've not done one so I trust myself..MUCH APPRECIATION..
The bubblegum welds caught my eye first thing.
Thank you for the detailed demo. I just tried removing the fuse with the bike turned on/off with and without the key in and the alarm went off. Is there something I’m missing? 😅
Switch on handlebars ON, turn key on, watch for security key light to go out, then pull main fuse with in 3 seconds.
(Key fob present)…..Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson thanks Doc, will do that. :)
Video was great! Thank you sir. One question, my 750 randomly began asking for a PIN code out of nowhere which was never provided by dealership. They have no answers, could this be due to a non functioning battery?
Possibly, software goes nuts when batteries don’t keep up…..Doc
Good morning, Doc what is the temperature for the fan star working in my stree 500, 2015.
ECM energizes the fan relay at 103 C (217 F)...Doc
Under the left side cover was windshield washer solution
Doc must have studied string theory in college. Excellent video!
Feel like a "Real Man" after taking this battery out! 😵💫🤣
I usually carefully ,strip everything off the plastic cover so i can get that wiring harness with fuse panels far away as possible.
i had to watch this so i can take back,, all my whining over the years in dealing with battery removal on my 2010 softail.. which compared to this is a piece of cake lol
Many thanks for the tip - this also applies to the HD Street Rod XG750A model. I have a request. Can you show how to change the brake fluid in the HD XG750A model or in the Street 750 model (with ABS module). Greetings from Poland
Thanks, good to know, my Street Rod 750 has a dead battery. Because of Covid I didn't ride! I regret now, this will be annoying!
This question is off topic but, I recently noticed a weight from my front tire lying on the ground in my garage. I looked at the tire and noticed that there were spots on the rim where weights were before, soooo.....any quick tips? I called my local dealer (where I just had a 5k service) asked them if they did a tire balance......"NO, but you can bring it in Saturday " $56 + weights. I'm in a group ride Saturday!! HELP!!!!!
I am glad I own ultra classic
Awesome tips doc .... I’m sure glad I don’t have a street 😂 I’ll keep my RoadKing ....
Hey doc i was changing the battery on my 500 and everything was done but i noticed the end of the vapor lock thing dangling does that attach anywhere or does it just hang
There is a clip to hold the one way vapor lock thing. After that the tube just hangs down. Thanks ~ Doc
This video didn't help me replace a battery, but it definitely told me not to buy this bike.
Quick question: Where is the best point to hook a trickle charger up to the street 500? Thanks in advance. Great work.
The best connection is to the battery terminals. But as I have shown, is difficult. Next best is red to battery positive post ground to that small frame stud. Thanks ~ Doc
Did this thank you so much. Still have NO POWER. Please 🙏🏼 help
Can’t fix over the internet. It is time for hands on time at your local dealer…Doc
Would a Shorai work in there? They are smaller.
How can you tell if it's lithium or lead before removal?
After watching this, so pleased I have a Dyna Wideglide, thanks anyway.
Nice Video. is there an easy option to just remove the battery wires or a central control that can ensure the battery is not consumed when left un used for one month or two months to avoid battery draining off.
Remove all the wires from the ground stud....Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson Would that technique apply for Street 750... Appreciate if you can make a short video just on this topic of removing the wires to batter to avoid drain when not motor bike is not used for 1 month +
My XG500's battery needs to be replaced. Looks like I am going to need a big glass of bourbon once I am done with this procedure. Thank you for the video!
I don’t know how this video was at the bottom of the search? It’s the best video to explain how to remove the battery. Stupid RUclips great video
Doc harley. Does that vapor lock thing connect to something towards the bottom? If so where
Nope just points to the ground …Doc
Quickest I did it was about 1/2 hour. You could just remove the 2 screws and move the coolant reservoir
so you pull it from the negative connection side? easier?
Whats the time guide for this job? Thanks
0.3.....Doc
Hey Doc, Thanks for this video, I just picked up a 15' street 500 and I have a few questions. 1) before my fuel light comes on indicating im low on fuel, the bike starts "surging" on take off or heading up a hill. I put gas in it and well, according to the manual its a 3.5 gal tank and Im only able to add about 2 gallons to it. Now also according to the manual, "reserve" is around .8 gallons left in the tank and thats about when the fuel light should come on. What gives here??? 2) I have found a connector not connected to anything on the right side "throttle side" and looking at a wring diagram, the closest thing I could find it to be is the Purge solenoid connector.. why would this be disconnected? is there an obvious hole to plug it back into? or do I simply pretend I never found it and ignore it?? Thanks for yours or anyone else insight.
The Purge connector is for over seas. But we all use the same harness....Doc
Hi doc , a good 3 phase stator how much producing current
For a street approximately 16-20 VAC per 1000 RPM. Thanks ~ Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson thanks DOC , hope Harley heritage model 2015 is the same 15 to 20 volt per 1000 rpm
I'm trying to charge my battery by avoiding this whole process, are there any vids showing that process? Thanks.
I would look around for the factory battery tender plug. Thanks ~ Doc
Hi doc My street 500 wont star , what can i do, battery or fuse ?
Too many unknown facts. Please take it to your nearest dealer. Thanks ~ Doc
Merci beaucoup ! J’ai changé moi ma meme ma batterie de mon 1re Harley ! Super Easy 😊 #girlsrock#
Well done my friend👍…..Doc
when you connect the battery charger, the motorcycle's (street rod 750) right turn light turns on.
Any idea why it does it?
How old of a battery and how strong is your battery charger? A battery
that is close to 4 years old does not have the capacity to handle a 5 amp or more charger. Weird things will start to happen through out the electrical system.....Doc
Hola usted puede aser un video de cambio de aceite de transmisión
Thank you Jorge for your suggestion. There are too many models to do just one video for all. I trust in a Factory Service Manual to show you the best way….Doc
Me podría explicar cómo le cambio el aceite primario a mi Hayley street xg be 500 2016 se lo agradezco
Good morning Doc , mi stree 500 cooling fan don’t work, but if I disconnect the cooling sensor, fan Work. Do i replace the sensor?Thank you in advance, Doc.
If I am understanding your message. You have tested the fan with it connected to bike and it does not work but if you remove the leads and test fan with 12 volt soarce it works! Yes it could be sensor,..Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson fan works.
How do I remove the starter motor on my street 750 harley, 2015
Either find a Factory Service Manual or bring it to your local dealer. I am sure you posted this to do it yourself for free. Not an easy path to take….Doc
I only needed a set of torx drives and a 10mm spanner. Those are torx on my 500 not Allen
Tengo un problema al acelerar me tira explosiones y ya cambié bujía y lo mismo bomba de gasolina nueva y nada sigue tirando me explosiones me podría ayudar
We have a language barrier here. If I understand correctly, the bike will not accelerate without problems. I would first look closely all over the bike for loose or damaged wires. Battery must be under 4 years old. Connection at battery tight. Next I would check for air leaks at the intake manifold near heads. Spray Brake cleaner in this location while bike is hot and idle. If the motor RPM changes at all, this must be fixed….Doc
Do fuel filter on 07 softail std
Doc , good morning, I have Harley Davison Street 500 , Do you think I can install straight pipes and change the inlet filter carburetor ,probably buy fiul pak fp3, to get at least close Like ,Sportster sound, Doc
Give me your opinion . I will take your opinion and whatever I do I want to do it on my decision, thank you in advance sir.
I have heard streets sound really good with an open collector. If you choose a tuner make sure they even offer a base map for Street...Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson thank you Doc .
When I pulled out the fuse the alarm went off continually until I put it back in?? (Will live to fight another day 😢)
Maybe because bike not in transport mode to begin??
Correct process: main fuse in and accessible. turn bike on. wait for the security light to go out. the second it goes out pull main fuse.(u have 3 sec to do this)
