  • Wanted to try something different.
Didn't even get to discuss what shotgun tech is, sadly.
But hopefully this gives some indications of the kinds of priority targeting going on, how the dynamics shift in the endloop and why we do what we do in top leaderboard runs.

Love how there's terminology, endgame, and teching for a game with one level and effectively 6 enemies.

clearly, there are not enough DD guides... this was great! Good call on slowing it down in late loop, it made it much clearer

As someone who watched one analysis video of this game some time ago and barely got to 200s the last few days, this video is perfectly what I need, strategy and gameplay tips for people who mastered the basics and want to keep improving their score and get an idea of how to treat each enemy type. Thank you a lot for this great vid!

With about 6-7 hours of practice after buying this game on Steam I've gotten to the highest score of my friends at 296 seconds survived. I really want that 500 second achievement but I feel like that is a top tier need to master every bit of tech in this game to get to. So far I've got the fast shotgun timing down but the bunny hoping at the same time is the most difficult. I'm trying my best but this video definitely helps learn some things.
Question: where can I get that mod that shows your stats in the top right? I feel like that would make the game a bit easier. Wish there was a high resolution no pixelated mod that made this game look clearer too.
I'm under the name Hrethgir on the in-game leaderboard. Looks like I'm about to go practice a bit more..

Hi Chris, the program is called ddstats, I can't actually see it in game, it is a overlay I used for this video when recording the gameplay in OBS, however it provides a lot of good information as you progress through each run.

@@lsaille1 Thank you! This video was very helpful, and I got the ddstats program running now. Looks like on ddstats I must be one of the new 11 gold daggers since I have that on my in-game screen now. It's a very addicting game but man does it get frustrating some times.
I'm curious if the fov in the replay in this video is the same as what you run the game at? I've been practicing at around 115-120max fov on my ultrawide monitor.
ddstats is really cool, looks like it shows axe as the other only person playing the game live with that mod right now.
Edit: One other question, what is that HRTF checkbox under the Audio settings? I am assuming it must be binaural audio but it seems to make the game audio sound a bit more tinny or more hollow. I feel like it makes things easier to pinpoint when I have headphones on but I've never seen that option in a game before, and google doesn't give me a clear answer.

@@casedistorted Not sure what distinct difference the HRTF setting entails, but regarding fov, I tend to use 95-97 as my go-to

    • @BradenBest

@@casedistorted HRTF stands for head related transfer function. It is an algorithm used to make sound "sound more 3D", by varying the volume in each ear in such a way as to give an illusion of directionality beyond just "I hear it in both ears but don't see it, therefore it's behind me" brain logic. Everyone's ears are different, and a perfect implementation of HRTF would tailor its mappings to the ears of the user so that everyone can experience HRTF (this is notably one of the things Sony is attempting to do with the PS5 down the road).
Naturally, this means HRTF will only work with headphones.

Awesome breakdown thanks for sharing. Im 10 hrs in and trying to get to that 200 mark from 190!

I'm with like 3hrs kinda stuck on 270, you do get a shiny golden time for yourself after 250 i think so that's neat. I guess im just kinda decent in games overall so that helped, or I just got lucky.

Really useful video. Thanks for making it!
I'm at 399 at the moment. Really want to beat the boss and earn the 500 seconds achievement. Just need to get a bit further.

he's just superimposing ddstats into the video with his screen recorder. Most of us use OBS

@@BradenBest Ah so there's a mod called ddstats that shows you this stuff? I would like this info during my gameplay too

    • @BradenBest
      @BradenBest 3 года назад +9

@@casedistorted ddstats is a separate program (not a mod) that reads the game's memory and displays statistics in a terminal window (not in the game). It's being superimposed onto the output video at recording/streaming time, so those gem counts you see in the video were not visible to the player at the time of recording.
Having this information available while in a run is considered cheating, and I can tell you from experience that it's not even useful. Sure, you could run ddstats, open a browser window, unfullscreen the game and run a script to click the "reveal stats" button automatically so that you can glance over at the browser window, but you will gain no advantage out of it. In fact, this carries a few negatives:
      * the distraction is liable to get you killed
      * the game interprets mouse input differently between fullscreen and windowed mode (it acts like v1 and v2 in windowed mode), which will throw off your accuracy
      * playing the game in a small window sucks
The live statistics are _actually_ used for:
      * (ad hoc) streaming, so the viewers can see how the run's going. The streamer cannot see these statistics in-game.
      * (post hoc) replays, so the stats can be seen in sync with the run
ddstats is most useful to the player as a _post hoc_ tool. The graphs help you determine where your pain points are, particularly, where you need to optimize your gem collection, homing usage, and accuracy.
