Its crazy how this game has been out for almost 14 years, and a lot of people didn't know Isaac had a personal journal that gave his thoughts/opinions about stuff.

I remember finding them nearly immediately on my first play through and saying I was going to read them later except I forgot they were even a thing. Until this video reminded me of it.

I personally didn't notice because the first time I played the game, I was crappying my pants. The second time, my monitor was just plain trash, lmao

Gravity Rush has one too, but it's not treated as a "diary".

Finally someone who took notice of the journals. Not many gave that much attention to them.

Considering Isaac Clarke didn't verbally speak outside of grunts, screams, etc. it's cool that they added a journal that voiced his thoughts on what was happening on the Ishimura; some of them really hit me hard like *"I knew these men; I can't believe they're all dead."* emphasising that a lot of his old associates and even friends have been slaughtered by this hellish scenario, which must be difficult to accept when in a situation where you you could die at any moment from the monsters, the ship falling apart, or those still alive going crazy/backstabbing you.

Considering Isaac doesn't talk throughout the first game, it's good to see someone highlight his journal entries to see his thoughts on the situation. Usually people skip through these. Great video! ❤️

I try to read them but I keep forgetting to read most of em witch is why I'm watching this to see witch ones I missed.

I hope Isaac has journal commentary in the Remake, too! ^^
Ngl when I saw Mercer in person I tried to shoot his face off with my Plasma Cutter...he was unfortunately behind invincible glass. Well, at least one of Isaac's wishes for Mercer came true ✊
I liked Isaac's commentary in DS1. Seemed like the things an Engineer with a repair objective would say. And it helped hammer home the point that he's just an average guy hoping to hell his gf is ok. And his commentary is interesting imo, and it does resonate with the player.
Thx for the video TBR! And also thx for reading this lul uwo

My head canon about why Isaac didn't see the whole message from Nicole is probably CEC and Kendra withheld the last part in order not to raise any suspicion and CEC could use an engineer who is willing to volunteer for what is supposedly a repair mission.
    Also a great video

This is amazing actually. It just shows that there was more to Isaac from the beginning. These journals elaborate on what kind of person Isaac was before, during, and since he was put through absolute hell. And the aftermath that followed after his experiences at the Ishimura.

Part of the reason I am excited for the Dead Space remake is the fact that Gunner Wright will voice Isaac Clarke. The amount of reactions and thoughts to be heard from the man himself while navigating Ishimura will make for some new experience.

I'm so glad you did this video. I'm also surprised that some fans aren't aware that Isaac had a journal. Seems like some people didn't use the amazing hud of the 1st game.

I think Kendra an her organization got the message before Isaac an made it to were he couldn’t watch all of it.

My thoughts as well, many times people will do some shady stuff to manipulate others. Such as if he thought Nicole was alive he pushes on, but if he thinks she's dead he becomes less capable to fight back, depressed and dies to necromorphs.

Grief and denial are probably the reasons why Isaac doesn't watch the whole message from Nicole.

    • @EmeraldEdge72
      @EmeraldEdge72 2 года назад +1

@@thePontiffsSnickerdoodles I second your comment, I had a moment in my life where I had to do some digging because I was blocking some stuff out of my psyche. My sister told me that one day my mother was downloading hate into my mind about my father and she caught her and stopped her. Again while I do remember hating my father I never remembered the incident in question. SO having her added perspective helped clarify missing pieces and gaps in memory.
However to your point denial leads to dismissive behaviour and thoughts and has the power to wipe out whole memories.
I do talk with my father and I do not hate him as that stuff was resolved years ago.

I think they were made in an attempt to seem more human as he didn’t talk. It would be neat if you vocalized what he wrote in the remake.

I've been wondering. Do more people prefer to have a full reload animation in the remake, or the more convenient quick one from dead space 2. TBH I prefer the first one, but I've wondered what other people think.
