Fly in snow at your own risk, as well as temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. It's silly. I do it because I like to test these things out for you and I've flown drones in so many different conditions I'm pretty aware of their limits. Be careful, be considerate.
This was filmed in the Swiss Alps, and yes, the first part was in a snow storm, the second part was when the snow storm gave me a little rest.
Flying a drone in the snow can be dangerous, please be aware of your surroundings and your aircraft.

This had me laughing a few seconds in with that poor mini sliding off the car 🤣, then you dropped her in the snow🤣. What a little trooper the Mini 2 is, absolutely brilliant footage 👍
haha, the car hood was funny! The drop was because my fingers were so frozen I actually couldn't feel it 😂 Yes, the Mini 2 is a super trooper!

Big blizzard hitting my small town in midwest US tonight. I work midnights as a nurse and keep looking outside seeing the snowfall and can't WAIT to get some cool shots with my mini 2 tomorrow as the sun comes up with I get off work. Thanks for the video to keep hold me over til then, amazing stuff as always!

@@PhillipSkraba got them here at work with me (inside) 👍 hoping my shift relief gets here on time so I can snag those golden hour shots! At least where I live people have the habit of pretending they "had no clue it was gonna snow" as an excuse to be super late for work. Fingers crossed!

Actually, we're still here today, and the weather was a lot colder and the snow was a lot worse, so we had a ton of fun!!

@@peacemaker4real I was so close to Zurich yesterday, at home in Poland now. Ahh it's worth the risk! Oh yeah, haha, I thought no one would notice, cut my F U finger, not bad, just a graze, not my first time. Always forget I can pull down, especially when my brain is frozen 🥶

@@Relic5150 Sure, even after crashing it and breaking off the rear arm, superglueing it back, it works like a charm. I was back in the snowstorm two days ago filming a new one for the Mini 2 and Air 2S.

I took the battery out the other day and had a look at the internals. Such a simple looking setup for a tiny machine that can do amazing things. Good to know it can handle a bit of moisture whilst out and about. Still amazed at how good the Mini2 really is!
Yes, I think the fact that it has almost nothing inside helps with its resistance to weather. I love it, does a great job!
Only thing no collision avoidance sensors

Haha! Agreed. We shouldn't trust our drones to fly for us. Fly yourself and find new fun ways to capture great footage. Your confidence with grow with your skills!

DJI Care is a fantastic service I’ve personally used a few times, it’s saved me a ton of money and hassle. I trust my Mini 2, I’ve had it in some situations you wouldn’t believe.
Trust her, take her out to eat once a week, make love to her, don’t cheat on her.

I've flown the Mini 1 over a lake at -12 deg C and with wind gusts above 22mph. It withstood the harsh situation very well. The stability was impressive. Watching your video gave me more confidence in the device, both the Mini 1 and 2. Great footage though.
Those are pretty strong winds for the Mini 1, I've had her in similar winds and I'm also extremely impressed with how stable it is! Thank You!
I've flown mine in - 20 celsius without any issues, even the flight time seems to be largely unaffected.

A little stressful but fun 🔥
I flew in - 4 celsius but quite humid air, and after 10 minutes of flying i had "Motor overheating" warning or something. When i eventually got the drone back safe, the motors were super toasty, and the props were covered in ice (it had built on like a "long icetap" in the direction of spinning). That was a scare, but a good lesson! :)
Me flight was 15 min, when was - 20 celsius.
Thanks for the video Philip! I got a dji mini 2 for Christmas, and it is very cold where I live. I use gloves when I fly, and instead of tapping the screen to take off, I find it much easier to pull in the 2 sticks to start the motors and go from there. Never had the guts to fly in the snow though!

Yes, that's totally normal when you face the sun, that's part of using the PL. I get that too sometimes, I cut it.

Whoa...I was just wandering this as it was snowing today in MN, U.S. mine fell in the snow and acted strange until it dried out - very surprised it could get that wet in your video...how did you dry it and anything weird happen afterwards? Thanks, love the footage!
Thank You! Yes, you need to dry it off, I use the windscreen heater, works everytime!
I found out recently that my Mini 2 didn't like flying in freezing fog, only had it up for a minute or two before getting a motor error, brought it back in and the rotors had a fair amount of ice in them!
Better he lose his drone than is, right? Lol
I’m sure Philip knows the risk factor. Simply amazing footage.
Oh yeah, it gets all frozen up there, I just roll with it, if it acts funny I bring it down and give it a shake.
I’m pretty aware of the risks, not always 100% sure she’ll make it back to me, but worth the risk sometimes like today 🔥
Mike, that’s exactly what happened to me with the warning in freezing fog, then after 10mins it dropped (but wasn’t very high, its all good now!).

You're using ND8 in such cloudy conditions as I see. I guess it would be like ND16 to ND32 if there were the sun, right?
Would ND8+PL work also good in your conditions?
Thank You! Yes, I had ND8 and ND16 on most of these shots. ND32 if the sun is out, sometimes ND64 if it's a tropical country. I used the hybrids when the sky was blue just to pop it a little.
Any post flying maintenance after flying in heavy snow?
Oh yes, right on the windscreen heater with the controller for a while!
I’d have used an hairdryer as soon as possible to avoid problems in the future. I’d have concerns about corrosion. But the footage is amazing, thanks for flying under these circumstances 😉
Corrosion would be if you get salt water on it, snow is fine. A hairdryer would be a little too hot, also in a car in the Alps hard to find, so the windscreen heater works perfectly. I'm honest not really that bothered about it, I'm more about the shot, I want that shot, that's my mission, and I hope the tech lets me. This time it did, thanks to this crazy little drone!

I've flown the P3P quite a few times, and I've got to be honest, the way this little guy flies and shoots is mind-blowing and I've already heard of quite a few people dropping their P3P and picking up one of these 😂 It's a crazy little drone, but it feels like a paper aeroplane compared to the P3P so you'd have to get used to that.

This is why I bought a drone to see if I can capture even 20% of a video like this , I bought a dji spark as my 1st drone.
It you fly it slowly and smoothly you can do!
Nice. I took my tiny whoop out in a blizzard here in Maine, at night, to FPV it one evening about five years ago. It was a hoot. To come in to land, I had to find the light coming out of our rear garage door and basically aim for it, coming in hot and bouncing off my wife’s car. Then I did it again. Video quality much different though :-)

I think it will be perfect for hiking and outdoor activities and I know it flies at 4000m so it would be great for the Himalayas etc. I've seen videos where you can use solar chargers to recharge the mini's batteries which is a game changer.

Return to home is a great way to get back in the low visibility of the snow.
I prefer to stick it in Sports and blast towards the home point at breakneck speeds, much more fun!

Brilliant footage man. The way you drop in the snow etc makes laugh. I’m in Canada and waiting warmer days lol to take out drone for its first flight lol
