I was about to leave and go home when my controller started to beep and the RTH had worked. It came back to me!!! I almost cried. I caught it with a small stretch from the jetty. Amazing. Phillip: an idea for your exposed hands when flying in the cold. Buy a box of disposable latex gloves ( the type you would see in a doctor’s office). I prefer latex instead of vinyl, but you could try both. They are thin enough that you can still work the control panel on phone and feel the sticks, but they do help some. I also often wear them underneath a regular pair of gloves when simply outside on cold day. Hope it helps if you try it. Dan

Found your channel and I must say how well put together your videos are and I feel so inspired by all the elements and your quotes, very much enjoy your very fun character and and down-to-earthiness while your drone flies high up! 🤣
How beautiful Phillip. I am looking forward of doing some videos this winter myself. I am a professional snowshoe guide and hope to get some good footage of the mountain and snow like you have done.
Oh yes! That no doubt makes a huge difference mentally! It still however cost me a lot of money, $600 for the combo kit is not something I'd be happy throwing away, that's also why I believe in buying DJI Care. It's not that I feel comfortable wrecking it, I have a different mindset, I see it as a tool to get the job done, not something that should be cuddled and polished. I bought it to serve me as a tool, I need it to get the shot, that's all.
I've been capturing cinematic snow footage with my mavic air 2 lately here in Maine. I've not flown while snowing yet though. Took it out the other evening to capture the sun set when it was about 10 degrees probably colder with windshield and it did amazing! I love how the mavic air 2 does so well in wind it one of the reasons I bought the this model over the smaller one which I actually owned for 3 months before selling.
Damn you got some really nice winter shoots! I got my Mavic Mini 2 today, sadly I had no time to fly today, but I will try tomorrow. Also it does film at 2,7k 60FPS after firmware update and app update. Hope I will get good shoots tomorrow.
Yeah, 2.7K 60fps is my second favorite mode to shoot in, after 4K 30fps of course.. 4K 30fps is the only resolution which needs and runs at 100Mbs, which is why I love it so much, all the details that you capture, amazing.. Sweet
@@PhillipSkraba yeah, seriously, the 2.7K 60fps is really excellent for sports and where you want to have high definition and really really smooth video... I'm no expert at all though in photography, but I know the 2.7K 60fps is really awesome! Sweet
Stunning shots man! I agree, in a location like that, Id be there for the shot, and so be it if it kills the drone in the process. Of course its always best to walk away as you did with the shots and the drone.
@@PhillipSkraba It’s amazing. Love it when the Mini 2 climbs up out the fog. Just wow👍 I’ve shared it on Scottish Drone Pilots on Facebook if that’s alright?
Another fantastic video Phillip. Thanks for braving the cold to show us the limits of the mini 2 and the aftercare. I was curious about using an iPad with the mini 2. How do you connect it? Does it have to cellular in order to get a GPS lock?
Thank You! The iPad is great! You connect it the same way, you just need to buy a slightly longer usb-c to lightning cable and you're away. It doesn't need cellular, no.
Thank You Artur! Zarejstrowany, chyba ogarniete, mam licencje od dawna, ale co o tym mysle, jakos w mojim zyciu to nic nie zmienilo. Bottom line, be safe, be considerate and you should be fine.
Just subscribed. Was always afraid to fly my Mavic mini in the winter. Vary informative for battery prep for winter flying. Feel more confident to take mine out even if its quite a bit colder thanks to you. Will stay tuned for more. :)
Great to have you on board! Yes, as long as you keep that battery warm you should be fine, of course keep an eye on any warnings, but with a warm battery you shouldn't run into any problems Robert. Have fun, all the best!
Landing gear is great as I have one that folds & can be kept drone even when drone folded .. Another tip I use with the Mini 2 is if you use dual lock Velcro on the top & on battery compartment you can use a strobe .. I put a Lume Cube strobe so on foggy or overcast days you can always spot the drone .. Great advice & footage 😀💚☘️ Merry Christmas 🎄
I crashed my 2 in the snow while getting some ski footy last week. Snow got packed into the air vents, but I brushed it off and it kept filming like the absolute champion it is. edit: thanks for the content, I appreciate all of the effort that went into it! hope you're well.
I crashed mine into the snow a few times this last week, but just playing around. It's an incredible drone that can really take a lot when pushed. Thank You, I really appreciate that!
Great snow tips Phil 👍 Did you adjust the white balance to suit the snow from your usual 5600k? 20-40cms of snow is forecast for Scotland this week, are you coming over?
No, I always leave it on 5600k, if I need to I slightly adjust it in grade. I wish I could fly over to the UK! I haven't seen my parents in over a year now, really missing them 🙈
@@PhillipSkrabaI do hope we have some snow here in Kent, at least for a day or two. It isn't a great time to be in the UK, as we have to stay local under lockdown along with the high covid rates . I hope your parents are staying safe 👍.
It's winter again 🥶 Thanks for good tips, Phillip! I've been practising some months with Mini 2 now. And there are a lot of new things to learn. So I will take some of those tips with me. I have been flying a couple of times in freezing temperatures. I learned, that I put everything ready in the car or in house. And if I'm able to do it I'm warming the drone by keeping the drone on a table or another flat surface and letting the motors run some minutes while still inside. I do this also after the flying to warm it again and to dry the humidity out. And in the bag I have some bags of "DO NOT EAT". Also a stylus is a good one to touch the phone screen if you do not want to carry a larger tablet with you - travelling light, you know. How does the foldable landing pad tolerate the -20? I mean, I once was taking pictures outside in -25 and had some flash bouncers for the flashes. When I folded them back flat, the plastic was broken. So your landing pad looks OK on the video, but did you use it in the freezeng cold winter?
Another awesome video. Living in Alaska being outside in subzero temps is life half the year. Took my Mini 2 out and yes my thumbs got so bad I could not use the controller properly. My Android phone also took a shit being too cold. Thanks for the link to the controller wrap that is going to be a must have for me. I would like to see some more night time shooting with settings myself. Thanks.
Thank You! I'd love to see Alaska one day! Here in Poland it's around 3-4 months of subzero temps then it's smooth sailing to autumn. Yes, the thumbs take the worst of it, my fingers are okay, but thumbs are really frozen. The controller wrap is pretty cool, does a good job especially in the wind. Night shooting, well, ISO3200, no filters, 1/50th, if that's too dark, switch to auto and it'll probably drop your shutter to 1/30th and if there isn't too much action or Sports Mode it'll be fine.
GREAT tips & awesome footage as always , just love your channel PS i have the extension landing gear as well but doesn't fit properly on the Mini 2 ,its made for the Mavic Mini
@@PhillipSkraba Ya i was surprise myself the back ones fit but the front ones are loose ,they do work if i switch them from to inner to outer, doesn't look as nice though
Thanks for the informative video. Its very cold here right now and I didn't know if it would be ok to fly a mini 2 right now. I feel very confident doing so now, and will run to the store and buy a mini 2 tonight. Costco has them with a memory card and extra battery for $439 usd. Thank you!
Hey bud, i live in Alberta Canada and it gets very cold here also. Ive flown my mavic 2 at - 21c with no problems what so ever. It still will keep the internal electronics warm enough i find from its internal heat. You could also put some tape over some of the vents but not all to keep the heat in. Beautiful scenery.

Thank you Tobias! It was a pleasure to film, sometimes a stressful one, but still a pleasure!
8:06 Love this one-liner advice..."just be aware, your can't see shyte!" LOL classic...almost as good as Don't Flick That Stick !
haha, I really couldn't see anything at times!! 😂 I was pretty worried I'd hit a tree in the middle of nowhere, but was lucky on this one!
His drone looks iced and frozen, so ours can look clean 😂 love seeing how far you can push this little guy!! DJI needs to partner with you already
haha, thanks Abdul! Yes, I really pushed it on this trip, but it didn't even feel it.
beautiful work phillip as always! I wish I could travel right now, you were lucky you could!
Thank You! Yes, very lucky!
Brilliant video Phillip stunning shots
Thank You Jon!
Man your videos are so good ! I enjoy all your editing skills also!
Thank you Darek!
@@PhillipSkraba I just got a mini 2 combo package a week ago only have a few flights on it. Which filters do you recommend for it by chance?
I’d go with the 4 pack standard, they’re excellent.
Found your channel and I must say how well put together your videos are and I feel so inspired by all the elements and your quotes, very much enjoy your very fun character and and down-to-earthiness while your drone flies high up! 🤣
Thank You! I'm happy you found me, glad to have you on board! I do my best to educate and entertain at the same time 😂
@@PhillipSkraba and that’s the best/most fun way for learning in turn! Keep up the awesome contents!! Thank you for replying!! 🤗
Thank You, I'll keep it up!
Just Awesome!
Thank you for the tips in the cold 👍
You're welcome!
This is epic man I love this drone so much! I’m super impressed with what it can capture. Also buzzing to shoot some night stuff 👊
Thank You Tyler, yes, I'm constantly surprised by it! Night stuff is great with this little guy 🔥
@@PhillipSkraba We’ve found the drone of our dreams 😂 subbed mate good s**t
@@FilmTyler It's a good one! I can't wait to see what the Mavic 3 can do though 😂
Omg, those shots were outstanding. Loved the intro voice.
Quality work as usual 👏
Thank You! I do my best with my radio voice, sounds a little funny 😂
Stunning footage and great advice. Really loving your videos.
Thank You Paul!
I love the Mini 2. Great video and information and much appreciated! Gives me the courage to go get some shots if we ever get snow this year.
You're welcome, have fun, be careful!
Great tips and gorgeous video shots!
Thank You Larry!
How beautiful Phillip. I am looking forward of doing some videos this winter myself. I am a professional snowshoe guide and hope to get some good footage of the mountain and snow like you have done.
Thanks Fred! I can't wait to get more winter shots, no doubt one of the most beautiful times to be out with a drone!
Maybe because the Mini 2 is a lot cheaper that's why you're more comfortable wrecking it! :) Hope your drone's AOKAY
Hey, just came across your videos and I love them. Keep up the good work!
Thank You! Will keep it up 👌🏻
Flew in -10 here in Canada today :) Excellent performance from my Mini 2! Thanks for the tips and tricks!
As long as those batteries are warm is should be fine! You're welcome!
One word "STUNNING"
You guys!! It's stunning because your filters were used on every shot 🥶
Amazing footage and I love your passion!
Thank You Judy! I do really love what I do 🔥
Damn you got some really nice winter shoots! I got my Mavic Mini 2 today, sadly I had no time to fly today, but I will try tomorrow.
Also it does film at 2,7k 60FPS after firmware update and app update. Hope I will get good shoots tomorrow.
Thank You! Yes, I believe so from what I've heard, I haven't tried that out yet.
Yeah, 2.7K 60fps is my second favorite mode to shoot in, after 4K 30fps of course..
4K 30fps is the only resolution which needs and runs at 100Mbs, which is why I love it so much, all the details that you capture, amazing..
Sweet
I’ll have to play around a little with 60fps, not touched it yet.
@@PhillipSkraba yeah, seriously, the 2.7K 60fps is really excellent for sports and where you want to have high definition and really really smooth video...
I'm no expert at all though in photography, but I know the 2.7K 60fps is really awesome!
Sweet
@@ivanjdrakov1957 Wait so all the other modes don't shoot at 100Mbs? only 4k 30fps?

Sam jestem pod wielkim wrazeniem, szcegolnie wysokie iso, no i ogolnie temperature. Dziekuje!
ależ to pieknie wyglada Filip!
Dziekuje!
Another Great Video! I had some fun with my mini 2 today and had to deal with the fog trying to make my drone land it was definitely scary!
Thank You! Yes, the fog can really play games on the drone and it's sensors, as well as sometimes you really can't see anything.
Also congratulations on 20k!
Thank You! It's a great feeling being that little bit closer to 100K 🔥
Stunning shots man! I agree, in a location like that, Id be there for the shot, and so be it if it kills the drone in the process. Of course its always best to walk away as you did with the shots and the drone.
Thank You! Yes, it's well worth it for the shot 🥶
That is s epic👍 I’ve been to Switzerland a couple of times in the past, this makes me want to go back
Thank You! It was my first time, I was stunned at how beautiful it is out there.
@@PhillipSkraba It’s amazing. Love it when the Mini 2 climbs up out the fog. Just wow👍 I’ve shared it on Scottish Drone Pilots on Facebook if that’s alright?
That's fine, thank you!
@@PhillipSkraba Cool, cheers. How far out did you have to fly to catch the train going over the bridge? That’s a great shot
@@msag76 The drone was actually maybe 30m away from me on that shot, flew it out maybe 100m. Thank You!
loved the video never go through the tests but will now
Thank You! Oh yeah, get that thing out there!
my dear phillip
you are the best drone poet i have ever known.😜
haha, thank You, I appreciate that!
that footage was amazing
Thank You Glen!
I have to say, that footage was Awesome!! Great work and advise on flying in the cold.
Thank You!
Love your work!! Very informative as well thanks!!
Thank You!
Have watched most of your video's, thanks for giving such a good explanation. It really helps me.
Thank You, I really appreciate the support! I'm glad I could help you.
Amazing shots !
Thank You!
This is real art what you do. I was supposed to ask what you think about the new EU drone regulations ... but it doesn't matter ...
Thank You Artur! Zarejstrowany, chyba ogarniete, mam licencje od dawna, ale co o tym mysle, jakos w mojim zyciu to nic nie zmienilo. Bottom line, be safe, be considerate and you should be fine.
Excellent video and really super shots with that M2 :-)
Thank You! Yes, the M2 holds up nicely.
Thank You, and Merry Christmas to you too!
Great snow tips Phil 👍
Did you adjust the white balance to suit the snow from your usual 5600k?
20-40cms of snow is forecast for Scotland this week, are you coming over?
No, I always leave it on 5600k, if I need to I slightly adjust it in grade. I wish I could fly over to the UK! I haven't seen my parents in over a year now, really missing them 🙈
@@PhillipSkrabaI do hope we have some snow here in Kent, at least for a day or two.
It isn't a great time to be in the UK, as we have to stay local under lockdown along with the high covid rates . I hope your parents are staying safe 👍.
Yes, not a great time, let's hope it improves quickly. They seem to be doing fine, quite safe I hope.
2nd vid of yours I've watched now, love your whole attitude towards getting the shot. Liked Subscribed and waiting for the next vid.
Thank You! I love getting the shot, it's what is most important to me!
Sick one ☝🏻
Thank You! It's was silly types of cold 🥶
Very useful tips man, will definitely take these into account before flying in the cold!
Thank You! Be careful!
Good to know! I live in Lapland and often fly at -10 and always assumed minus 15-20 would be too much for this little drone to handle.
You live in Lapland?? That must be incredible!! As long as your battery is warm you should be fine.
Thank You! No way, really? Fits on my Mini 2 perfectly, maybe the new ones are tighter?
@@PhillipSkraba Ya i was surprise myself the back ones fit but the front ones are loose ,they do work if i switch them from to inner to outer, doesn't look as nice though
That’s really odd, mine are so tight I have trouble getting them off!
@@PhillipSkraba no mine are easy to put on & take off , its from Sunnylife brand so its a bit different then yours
Oh I see. I have Sunnylife brand products, very so so. The PGYTech stuff is really well made, highly recommend it!
Thanks for the informative video. Its very cold here right now and I didn't know if it would be ok to fly a mini 2 right now. I feel very confident doing so now, and will run to the store and buy a mini 2 tonight. Costco has them with a memory card and extra battery for $439 usd. Thank you!
Have fun Christopher! It's stunning out there during winter, just make sure you have warm batteries before flying.
I'm impressed. Great movie as always !! How many times have you lost connection with the drone while flying in Switzerland?
Thanks Marcin! It dropped connection once for maybe 10 seconds, lucky I had RTH height set as it was close to trees.
@@PhillipSkraba Nice, I know some people recommend not to set RTH, I think it's a must have here!
I set it every single time I fly, it’s saved my ass many, many times.
It must be stunning out there! Yes, I had zero problems with mine, well, except it wanting to land in the frozen fog, but I'm always aware in risky situations like that so stopped it in its tracks. Thank You, it really was stunning out there.
