My biggest problem with the picking pattern is that my ring finger -- which is typically one's weakest finger -- tends not to ring as loudly as the other 3. I have to really concentrate on it to make that A string ring out loudly enough to bring out the melody. Anyway, love the tutorial, would love to see more Cat Stevens!

Hi, I Just got a Ukulele and decided to learn to play from you. Thank You for your time.
I'm having issues with the strumming using my index finger. Going down doesn't sound smooth like when I use my thumb. I can hear the index fingers fingernail hitting the strings and coming upstroke my pressure isn't strong enough and the sound is very low. Suggestions??
I think you should do exercises to strengthen your index. I would recommend before you play each day to use your index to just pluck each string so you can get a nice, strong note. From there, once you can do that without thinking about it practice strumming - it should create a more pleasant sound.
Not quite sure what you're talking about with being able to hear your fingernail hitting the strings? Do you mean it makes a sort-of metallic sound?
