  • Another wonderful surf fishing trip during low tide (it was outgoing). The redtail perch are biting hot now and it's easy to catch them on the Oregon coast. I will offer some tips in this video to help you catch more fish.
    Rod: 10' salmon rod
    Reel: size 4000
    Line: 20# braid
    Hooks: #2
    Bait: gulp sandworms
    Weight: 2 oz DISC sinkers

    This video is awesome because I am new to surf perch fishing and all the videos I see talk about fishing around _high_ tide. Good to know low tide is also an option.

    Thank So Much, Pk, I used your high and low rig, and I was catching fish left and right, people around me were like what the heck this dude using catching fish left and right. I would have show them the rig I used, but they didn’t asked.
    Oh yeah there is no size limit in Oregon for red tail, California is 10.5 inch size minimum. Now I get to figure out if swim bait or sand worm catch bigger redtail, lol hahahahehe.

    Hi Pk, great catches.
    A couple of questions a) you normally fish during incoming tide and this time you fished outgoing tide and you seem to have caught more fishes, are you going to fish more often during outgoing tide in the future ? B) I know you dry your sand worms, do you ever put them back in the juice and re dry them again, if not, aren't you losing the the juice smell. Thanks

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  7 лет назад +1

      Carlos Fung A) I prefer incoming high tide by far, B) I only dry them once and don't resoak. The smell don't matter much, the sandworm actually looks like a local food source: small ghost shrimp

    • @oregonlife

      Gearhart would be closest to Portland. You can also try the Barview Jetty in Garibaldi. I've done good in Barview. To be realistic, any flat sandy beach has them. Don't focus too much on location, but rather a flat beach - any flat beach. Good luck.

    Hey PK, I think I have consumed almost all of your videos in the past 3 weeks. I'm in hook ,line,and sinker. I just got a Shimano Saros, poor mans Stradic- $83 ebay, and I'm waiting for a Okuma LC-S-902H-1 Longitude Spinning Surf Fishing Rod HEAVY 9 ft , also from ebay. Probably heavier rod than I want but I don't want to use my 9' g loomis so watching budget for now. What do you think of Cabela's 'Whuppin Stick' rods? $18 for 10 ft is a killer price.
    Anyway I have a couple questions if you don't mind. I went to the beach just south of Ona beach at low tide today to scope out for fishing this weekend. There were 1000's of partial sand fleas all over parts of the beach. Is that a good sign? Do you think they were eaten by redtail perch? Do you ever use live ones for bait?
    In your recent videos you say you are not focusing on structure anymore. Troughs, channels, sandbars, etc. Probably still a good bet to hit them, yes?
    Last question, do you ever pick up incidental fish like flounder or ? when targeting perch?
    So a lot of questions, sorry. If you only want to answer 1 or 2 or all I appreciate your knowledge. I hope to catch one of your tournaments, but can't make this 4th of July. Great job on the videos, they're a blast. Fish On! Denny

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  7 лет назад +2

      Hi, Denny. I have used the whuppin stick before, the 10 foot one, for surf fishing. I actually got a video on that rod. It works great!
      Yup, lots of sand crabs usually means there are perch around eating them. I never used them before - the sandworms are all I use.
      Yes, it's always good to target troughs, rips, channels. Those are where they feed and hang out.
      The only fish I pick up are surf perch: redtails, spotfin, silvers. Never flounders. But my friends have caught small flounders off the beach.
      Cheers, PK.

  • @yongzhong5279
