  • Oregon Coast surf perch fishing for redtail surf perch! In this episode of Angling Addicts PNW i am back on the north coast of oregon surfperch fishing with the plans of doing a surf perch catch and cook... if things all go according to plan. I've had a lot of luck fishing along the oregon coast already this year and if that is any indication of how this season is going to go, it should be a wild one!
overall this was a pretty successful surf fishing trip with plenty of catches, a few mishaps, and a delicious fire roasted redtail surfperch to finish it off.
As always, i cover my surf fishing rod and reel as well as the bait that i am using. You can find links for some of these items below.
This isn't my first time cooking fish over a campfire but it is my first time cooking surfperch over a campfire and i have to say i think i found my new favorite way for cooking surf perch.

I always enjoy your videos. Been fishing surfperch for years here in Southern Oregon, and learned a nifty trick I would like to share. If you clip the gills and bleed out your fish while it is still alive, the quality of the flesh is way better when cooking. The texture of the meat is firm rather than soft and the flavor is also improved. The downside is that this procedure can be a bit messy...the bloodstains are difficult if not impossible to remove from clothing.

100% dude, I bleed every fish I catch, I even bleed bluegill and trout lol. Less fishy, cleaner, firmer better meat for sure.

Salmon also must be bled out.
I hear people degrade the taste of Flat Head, (Yellow Cat) and it's because they don't bleed the fish while alive.

Love the videos. I always have in a 1 gallon zip lock bag ,smaller sandwich zips of kosher salt, white pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, dried thyme on the stems, Chile powder, and some fresh ground cumin. And 2 lemons.
Olive oil and if my wife is with me a stick of butter.
Honestly I stick with garlic, salt, pepper, paprika and a wedge of lemon when I’m hungry and in a hurry. Lemon juice is the most important in my opinion.

My God that made me hungry for perch.
    Have not had any yet.
I did buy a new Okuma SST 9'9" 15-40 lb. And an Okuma Ignite iT 80A reel to go with it.
Spooled it with 30 lb SpiderWire braid.
Can't wait to try it out.

    • @thibo703

3-5oz works well for most surf rods. You have to adjust based on how much the surf is throwing your rig around, how stiff your rod is and how far you need to cast. Hence him pointing out the ability to swap out your weight at the beginning. Start smaller and go up. I use a 1oz egg slider on a light rod with a fish finder rig, or a 4 oz on a medium sized surf rod with a high low rig. Today the hi low rig worked best.

BiMart usually has hip waders for around $70. If you do get hip waders just don't clip them to your belt, if they fill with water you could be in trouble.

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  Год назад +1

lol ya the fish was a bit undercooked but still tasty nonetheless. I have all kinds of gear for cooking but wasn't interested in the work or cleaning up afterwords. A fish, a fire, and a stick were good enough for this trip. You probably won't see me cook it this way again though haha. Thanks for the feedback and for watching
