She was merely the Boleyn family's place-holder in the King's bed while Anne was pregnant. e.g. not from a rival family like the Seymour clan.

It was very common for kings to have mistresses in this period for a very strong reason. In an age when childbirth was so dangerous and infant mortality so high, having children with mistresses protected the King from accusations of being unable to produce healthy children and allowed him to blame his queen

Mary was one of the luckier women in Henry's orbit. I shudder to think what would have happened to her had she married Henry. After all, just because she had 5 children with another man doesn't mean that she'd have even one with Henry.

How many women was Henry involved with? Six wives and so many mistresses. He must have been a busy man. She was lucky to have not married Henry, otherwise Henry would have ruined seven wives.

I wonder if it were true that Norris wouldn't marry her. That is why he argued with Henry. After Henry cast her off, was Norris eyeing Jane Seymour or really eyeing Anne.

The Sheltons were actually very close to the Boleyns and in the church St Mary’s there is stained glass referencing the Boleyn bull. Ralph, 26th Lord Shelton was married to Anne Boleyn, the sister of Thomas Boleyn. It’s honestly amazing that they stayed in favor from Henry all the way to James
