There is a difference in artists progression, and following the fad. Ryan Leslie was fresh and different years ago because the beats and instrumentation were so clean and soothing. Themes and vocals were so great and fit perfectly and that is what gained fans. The beats are still there, but the overall sound is just like everything else. I know the passion is still there, but seriously, these lyrics and direction of these newer songs can't take more than 5 minutes to write...

Preach!As a starting songwriter in college,he really inspired me too and I feel like trying to follow trends can ruin your uniqueness as an artist and it sounds like he's trying to follow the mainstream a little.I loved Diamond Girl,the work he did with New Edition,and the work with Cassie.The rnb from the 2000s was cool and the rnb from the 90s and back was classic which was it's rawest and beautiful form.The game needs to get back to that.
I remember when the first studio sessions were basically the camera following R Les around. From the concert piano, to the synths, to shaking change in a cup and playing a mini trumpet. Going back in, doing the harmonies, vocals, etc. New studio vids are him telling other musicians what to do. And the worst part is the beats don't go nearly as hard.
