- The fujifilm X-E4 is one of, if not the best everyday carry cameras out there, and although it has the sane sensor as the X100V, it does have one advantage over its more expensive sibling.

Can we just appreciate the music choice?! I felt like I was watching a slick sci-fi movie! Great narration @marctaraz and stunning videography! Need to check out this camera now, I’m overdue for an upgrade.
Awww thank youuuu🥰🥰🥰 I’m so glad you enjoyed. And this lil guy is def a fun one.
u should check out SERR channel, his videos are amazing. Gives off sci-if, nostalgia, and he covers fuji film
He just took his inspiration from GX chanel.
Yes, this video was very much inspired by GXAce’s style! It’s great when a fellow creator can ignite a creative spark in you 🥰
@@MarcTaraz off course, btw good video 🙂
This feels like a documentary
I shall take that as very high praise! Thank you!
😂 yes. It’s the music. (But great video)
But in a good way. Awesome video.
It feels like a gxace video.
100%! His style was a high inspiration for this video! I’m glad you could see it!
I looove mine. First of all it's beautiful, everyone thinks it's a film camera. But mostly I wanted the form factor of the x100v but with interchangeable lenses (I love landscape photography and I need more than one lens). I hesitate with a xt30 but I'm a minimal person so the xe4 was the best decision.
I don't regret my buy, best camera I've ever own (first Fuji too)
It was my first fuji as well! Ahh! I love it so much. The interchangeable lenses is always a great option if that's what you're looking for
I'm planning to buy this as my first Fuji camera. Do you think it is still a good recommendation in 2023? Or is there better Fuji alternatives at this price range?
My first Fuji too! And it’s the sharpest camera yet! I have an RP… now it’s my second body😂
I'm looking for a small form factor everyday camera and boy does this check most of my requirements! Your comment might be what pushes me over the edge actually
@@romainc2659 the only con is lack of stabilizer - shooting video from hand is not so fun, otherwise its awesome
doing my research on X-E4 vs X100V and didn't expect to see a whole bunch of beautiful shots of hong kong, where im from!:) thank u for the awesome video!
You are most welcome! I love this city ❤️
XE4 paired with the 23mm 1.4 WR is my new daily driver. I know the lens is a bit big but I compare it to my FE35mm 1.8 which is basically same size and almost same weight, It has almost the same DOF but its faster and so much fun to shoot with.
I’ve heard great things about that lens, and the focal length is so great
Same, this combo is incredible. I might see what the 23mm 1.4 LM WR is like though
The GxAce feels are strong with this one. 👏🏼👏🏼 nice video
He was a huge inspiration for this video so I’m glad the feels came thru! Mission accomplished!
@@MarcTaraz 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 I’m happy he’s finally getting the attention he deserved. Like I said though, very nice video. Definitely want a x-e4

@@MarcTaraz amen bro, 🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@MarcTaraz you even look like you could be a distant cousin, I even fought you were related to him, might just be the way your eyebrows move
X100V is the winner for me simply because of the leaf shutter. And the lens is great.
That leaf shutter Def makes a world of difference
What is Def shutter
I struggled between the X-E4 and V in early 2021. Finally decided on the V and never looked back.
Absolutely GREAT camera. I have a video coming soon on it
I have both the X-E4 and the x100v and even though I think that the X-E4 is fantastic, they are simply different. The X-E4 doesn’t beat the better EVF of the X100V, doesn’t have an OVF, the digital tele feature, weather sealing, the built-in ND, the super quiet leaf shutter… It’s still great, and you have lenses options, but it’s not really comparable imo. Same package, different user needs.
Yeah you're right. And ontop of that the x-e4 with a the 27mm pancake lens simply doesn't do what the x100v can do.
The 27mm lens is not as good, closest focus distance nowhere near as close as the x100v and on top of that is 2.8 vs F2 (2x more light on the x100v).
If you stick on the 23mm on the x-e4, the lens and camera overall becomes bulkier and much less pocketable.
It's not better-- just different.
This felt like a nod/anti-thesis towards GxAce’s X100V video. Great video man, looking forward for more.
Him and his style were a huuuge inspiration for this video! I’m glad you enjoyed!
Thanks to videos like this, now I can’t afford to buy one on eBay anymore. 🤣 A friend of mine bought an xe4 about 6 months ago for $400 on eBay. Now people are asking 1000 to 1300 for a used xe4. Insane.
Actually, I think the best budget X100V alternative (as long as you're not doing video) is the XE-3 because you can get it much cheaper than the X-E4, but it's not that much of a resolution loss (24mp vs 26, although it does loose some of the newer features found in the X-E4 and X100V and is more on par with the X100F, which was still a great camera, just the lens wasn't as sharp, but with the X-E3 you can choose what lens you want to use). The other thing is the omission of the hybrid EVF/OVF which some people like.
I've got mine xe4 with 18mm f1.4. Love this combo so much🫶
It’s a great combo! I’m so glad you have a setup that inspires you to shoot!
I’m so grateful the algorithm sent me to this video. Wow. Excellent analysis delivered in a really artistically fulfilling way. Really great work. Thank you.

In my last few months in HK before heading home….this is a great catalyst for getting this camera and capturing HK life before I leave
Love the music. Added such an ethereal feeling to the video.
One of my favorite parts, I thought it made the video flow very well
I recently upgraded to the X-E4 after shooting the X-E1 since it’s release, and it’s amazing. Everything I could’ve hoped for. Got the 35mm f/2 WR to add to my X mount collection as well. So great. Takes great selfies too with the 18mm f/2 and the flip around screen :)
The 18mm f/2 does surprisingly well on low light as well, while being small. Slow autofocus compared to the newer lenses, but you can compensate for that with smart approaches.
Such a great camera, I’m glad you’re enjoying it too!
Just a correction on 5:30, full frame optical equivalency only affects field of view and the aperture’s practical depth of field. It does not affect the amount of light gathering. So a 27mm F/2.8 on APS-C would actually only look like a full frame 41mm f/4.3 would in terms of field of view and depth of field, but not in terms of “brightness”. In brightness, the exposure of a 27mm F/2.8 would still resemble a 41mm F/2.8.. so you’re only losing low light performance via the inferior sensor performance on APS-C, not optically.
There’s a reason why the 24mm 1.8 lens on the iPhone 14 pro max looks different than a 24mm 1.8 on apsc and in full frame. Without the context of these things, people who are new to photography don’t understand these concepts, and can be easily tricked by marketing.
@@MarcTaraz Very true. The differences are in the amount of depth of field, but not in exposure. It’ll still produce the same exposure as the equivalent in full frame. The poor low light performance comes from its significantly smaller sensor size. But you are right. Even if we called it an equivalent F/5.4 (I think that’s the full frame’s equivalent for a one inch sensor’s f/1.8), I’m sure 24mm 5.4 on full frame would still produce more bokeh. There’s definitely some marketing jumbo in there.
@@MarcTaraz Fujifilm should pay you
Damn I wish 😂 ill take getting access to new cams and lenses so I can keep making reviews. I don’t quite have infinite money to buy every cam 😂
@@MarcTaraz then make videos about photography instead? There’s more than enough gear snobbery on RUclips. Content about photography itself is far more creative and captivating, but then again it’s also far more difficult to make than gear videos also. Probably explains why there isn’t so much of it like there is gear reviews.
I use mine for landscape photography in Alaska and it does an excellent job.
That sounds absolutely beautiful. I bet you’ve captured some stunning shots!
I just got this camera 2 weeks ago with the 27mm and I love it, it’s my first ever real camera and I got it pretty cheap only 1000 aud second hand
Aye thats a great deal! Your first camera is such a big deal, and this one is a great one!
An f/2.8 lens is a 2.8 lens regardless of sensor size. You will not get a brighter exposure in full frame at the same aperture. You can bring up the ISO more on FF though. To me, the perfect lens for my X-E4 is the 18mm f/2 or the Mitakon 35mm f/0.95.
I’d highly recommend checking out this video, as well as mm calc
ruclips.net/video/0OtIiwbAZi8/видео.html
You're just plain wrong.
@@MarcTaraz In this video, Tony says that crop factor does not effect exposure.
The person above is correct.
I take it you don’t tend to switch between crop and FF systems, because iso 100 with the exact same SS and aperture lens will produce two greatly different results
Yeah people calculating DOF difference for bokeh is really stupid tbh. Everyone else in the replies coping rn
This video is so aesthetically pleasing ❤

Mine should be arriving today, though I'm not using the 27mm f2.8. Ive been using Fuji for years now and have accumulated a few lenses... I have a TT Artisans 23mm f1.4. Thank you so much for the kind words 🥹
Love my XE4 + 35/1.4!
Great combo right there 🔥🔥🔥
Actually, the Fuji layout can make shooting faster, not slower. On most cameras you have to set the mode you want (e.g. shutter priority) THEN set the shutter. On the Fuji you just set the shutter. Same for aperture etc. It's actually more intuitive than thinking about modes.
Diggin your music choice in this guy. Nice pictures as well dawg 📸
Thanks man! I’m so glad you liked my music choice and my photos as well! Appreciate your kind words!
The music is GREAT!
Thank you so much!
I appreciate your video very much. You talk slowly and calm, the content seems to be good. But I had to give up listening at 1:37 because I could not hear you because of the background music. Perhaps this is my fault since I am very old and my ears get confused in situations where there are a lot of sound sources.
I would recommend the X-E3 instead. You lose too many buttons on the X-E4 to make photography truly enjoyable. Plus the location of that joystick is guaranteed carpel tunnel if you use back focusing. Even the x100v has more dials and buttons than the X-E4. All other Fuji cameras are designed to make you stay out of menus and in the moment, but the X-E4 is menus heavy. They even removed the M/C/S switch, come on!
Is it your first Fuji? If so, that must be why you think it's normal to have a slow workflow, but with the X-E3, you can change your settings as fast as the Sony bodies you're using and avoid menu hell. It's even lighter than the X-E4
Simplicity is an excellent principle to apply, in every endeavour. Well done, Fujifilm, for applying that principle so effectively with the brilliant XE4.
I have an x-e3 that I found barely used for 300€ on eBay but quickly I realized it’s too cramped for me and slows me down too much. I’ve used slr cameras that I could work way faster than the x-e3 so I never even thought it’d an issue. I thought at that price it would solve most if not all of the issues I had with my Nikon dslr, didn’t even occur to me I’d miss most of my back buttons and dials but it sucked all the joy out of photography for me I hardly want to use it despite being so small and compact. I can’t even begin to imagine what using the x-e4 would be like! If I wanted to just press a button to avoid the hassle of using any of the manual dials then I’d get a point and shoot instead, I don’t understand the unnecessary need to minimalize everything.
You can use the swipe shortcuts 😉
@@daan8052 yes cause everyone knows taking your eye away from the viewfinder to change the settings by swiping on the screen is extremely efficient, that’s exactly what I mean when I say it’s slowing me down too much 🙂
Love the photos taken in HK, .very true and beautiful😍.
Looking at this , the xt-30, or x100v. I have a Gfx50s. That camera takes images truly in another class. Full frame would be very similar. This seems like an amazing packable option
loves the shots esp. the one in HK
Thank you so much! I love capturing this city
Glad I bought this last year when its still under the radar. Went with this instead of the x100v. Couldnt be happier
You and me both!
@@MarcTaraz bust purchase of my 2022 honestly. Bought this with the kit lens and found an 18-55 xf on fb marketplace for like $100. Super good buy!
That’s so awesome! I’m happy for you!
I have an X100v.. it has a leaf shutter. The xe4 has a focal plane shutter, like most other interchangeable lens cameras. That aside I wanted a fixed lens camera and I couldn’t afford the Leica Q2. I wouldn’t swap it for the XE4. Although thanks to the X100v I’m now considering moving away from my Canon DSLR to the Fuji XT series.
That leaf shutter on the x100v is absolutely amazing and one of my favorite features
100% the same for me, been looking at the Fuji XT series as well.
unfortunately this camera is temporarily out of stock and on back order everywhere :'( and the prices for new ones on ebay and on amazon are getting ridiculous. the same thing with the x100v is happening with this one :(
Its literally the same price how its budget??
DITTO! After owning and shooting with a handful of other Fujifilm cameras in the couple of years that have passed since discovering Fujifilm, I’ve wound up with waist is the sweet spotted camera for me, an X-E2 with the revised 27mm pancake w/ aperture ring for street play. I could care less about video or action photography, & preferring the Trans 2 sensor to the rest, not to mention the fact that an X-E4 costs 4 times what mine cost me in mint low shuttered shape, this one fits my bill ✅
Not “4” times, miss hit key, but a substantial fraction.
I think also the same! I love the X-E4! No one use the optiical viewfinder, the ND Filter or the leaf shutter for flashes on the X100 models. And on the X-E4 you can change the lenses - on X100 not! O i love my X-E4 with my 18 and 27 lenses! 👍😉 Wolf
Awesome video! Makes me appreciate my xe4 even more ❤

First off , badass video , I can tell you shoot video , music is insane . Xe4 is a great camera , I owned it for a couple months paired with the 23 f2 . I ended up selling it and grabbing a v (for the 3rd time ) for a couple reasons . I shoot a lot at night and as much as I wanted a compact setup I was basically stuck with the 23 f2 because the 2.8 on the 27 was pushing it for me . The shutter altho sounds great was super loud in not so busy area’s and just started to annoy me . The feel of the camera is great but was better with added thumb grip and hand grip but I hated the extra weight . The xe4 is a better performer then the v imo but ultimately it had to go . Enjoyed the video
Funnily enough I have actually sold the xe4 to pick up the x100v. Love both cameras, but the V works better for what I want. The f2 makes a significant difference
@@MarcTaraz lmao that’s funny , fuji needs release a successor of the x70 and I’ll be good 😂 also don’t buy a Ricoh gr lol been there done that

@@MarcTaraz Well, you nailed it while also making it yours! I look forward to future videos.

Great video 😊. I really want to get that film quality in photos . I’m really scared to purchase a really expensive camera and not achieve that look without a bunch of lenses.
Anything in fujis lineup will give great results, I’d look into the different film simulations and recipes and see if any catch your eye and are what you’re looking for!
Great video. I'm really interested to see what Fuji comes up with next. I'm afraid the 40 mpx from the x-t5 would kill the x100vi or x-e5.
I’m very intrigued to see if they start dividing the line or continue putting the same sensor in everything. We shall see
Fuji definitely needs a medium and small RAW update to their cameras. 20MP would be okay for me.
What an excellent video . Good job

It's such a frustrating time for Fujifilm fans the last few years. The last time I checked a week or so ago, the only X100V camera I found online was a used one for $2000US. A quick look for this camera turned up a used body for $1400US.
Unfortunately, all the alternatives I've seen recommended seem so inferior to the Fujifilm camera that l can't bring myself to buy any of them. I've still got my big DSLR camera and a bag full of lenses, but I'd really like a nice everyday camera with a smaller form factor that wasn't just a point-and-shoot toy.
I saw an x100v going for 3000, people are getting too bold
I just shoot film. the $1850 I save in camera cost (a nice 1960-70s rangefinder can easily be had for $150. This gap increases if you consider lenses) translates to about 112 rolls (or 4,031 photos) inclusive of film cost, developing and scanning where I live (in Singapore - Kodak ColorPlus/Gold/Ultramax is about 10 USD, C-41+scan is about 6.50 USD, bringing the total to 16.52 USD as of today's exchange rate). 4,031 photos is over two years worth of shooting for me, because as a film shooter I'm used to being very selective of what photos I take.
To me this Fuji hype is people wanting the film aesthetic (let's face it - it's a Lightroom preset away) without any of the discipline.
And think about it - any photo not worth even 50 cents, can be taken with your phone.
@ntnchua I'm sure a lot of posers buy the X100V because it the current thing, and they are probably the one's driving up the price and drying the supply up.
I, however, want to get one for specific reasons; specifically the small size and the fact that it actually has controls on it so I can take photos the way I want, not the way the built in program think I should.
As far as going back to shooting film, no. It's great if that's what you want but it's not what I want. Finally, as far as my smart phone, it has a huge pixel count and multiple lenses, but I HATE taking photos with it. The ergonomics suck. I want a real camera.
And after the X100V hype, there will be the XE4 hype. Let me buy mine before the market beeakdown!
The only saved one will be the Leica Q2. Too expensive for everyone.
It will be very interesting to see if that’s the case!
@@MarcTaraz give it a month or two and you will see haha
nice shots. fantastic script!
Nice sci-fi film and great provocative title lmao! So when is the X100V video coming???
Working on it as we speak 😉 I’m glad you enjoyed this one!
i just upgraded to xpro 3 for a good deal and sold my x100v and only now i realise how good the built in flash was to save the day when needed, this is and afew others are good but x100f & v are just better
We never how good we have it until it's gone 😭 but the x pro 3 is a beautiful camera
Wish these and the 100v weren’t on back order. It’s crazy. My go to will be my iPhone for now I guess.
Absolutely insane how tik tok can make a camera blow up like that
X-T20 and the 23mm f1.4 WR for me for small form factor (okay, a bigger lens) and also the brilliant 13mm Viltrox f1.4. Not saying it's any better but preferential since I have them. x100v has the leaf shutter though - I don't have one but...
You can use also the small 18mm f2 which is almost the same size and pretty ok in low light.
I've heard good things about this lens
Your comment about it being the equivalent to a 41mm f4.3 is inaccurate about aperture. F stop is measured the same across any format, because it’s a mathematical formula to describe how much light a lens can pass through it. It will have the depth of field of an f4.3 lens, sure, but not the actual light gathering. This needs to stop being confused. Other than that, fantastic video!
I’m glad you enjoyed! Not everyone understands the nitty gritty technical things, which is why a 24mm 1.8 on an iPhone 14 pro max looks different than a 24mm 1.8 on apsc and a 24mm 1.8 on full frame. While f stop is how wide the aputure of a lens can open, if that lens is physically smaller, it’s opening is physically smaller, allowing less light to pass thru, hitting a physically smaller sensor, it's going to differ. Taking all these things into account and dumbing it down into an easy digestible way to measure can be very helpful for many people, especially when switching between systems, and using full frame as a baseline to compare it to.
@@MarcTaraz I’m sorry but what you are saying is wrong. An Aperture of f2 on APS-C let’s in the same amount of light as on Full Frame. That’s literally why the standard is used; it’s a mathematical formula, so no matter the format, people can speak of these things in one way and it makes sense. If you don’t believe me, take a full frame camera and meter a scene with it using whatever lens. Then, take your Fuji camera with a lens of equivalent focal length in FF terms, and meter the same scene. If you set both lenses to f2, the shutter speed and iso will be the same
Stunning pictures
I went from the X100S to the Ricoh GR IIIx. That's the best. Very small but very powerfull.
Great video! I have to ask if you watch GxAce Marc? If you do the influence really looks good and you did a great job. If you don't watch him you should, LOL! Either way, the video looks great. Cheers from Canada 🍁 Brett
I do indeed ❤️ been watching a lot of his stuff lately, and this video was heavily inspired by his style. I’m glad you enjoyed Brett! Always good talking to a fellow Canadian! Stay safe and warm!
@@MarcTaraz Very cool, I had no idea you were from Canada! I have been trying to shrink my kit down. I just bought a Ricoh GRIII X (back ordered though sadly) but I'm also looking to get a compact prime for my a6400 as well. Cheers from Winnipeg 🌾 Brett
I’m from everywhere and nowhere at the same time 😂 but yes I am Canadian and I’m looking forward to moving back there in the future
You make a compelling argument, but it's still too big for me personally. And I have trouble justifying to myself that using an interchangeable body with a single lens for "portability" is still any better that just getting a premium point and shoot. Still searching for what will eventually replace my Sony RX100 m3.
Were all on the forever search of the perfect camera. It's tough. But I'm glad you have one that you love right now
Great vid bro! I see that you enjoy watching GxAce's vids as well! 😁
Def massive inspo for this one 😂 his style def is reigniting my love for shooting
@@MarcTaraz exactly the same for me man haha, my last couple of vids are heavily inspires on his vids! Such a fresh breath of air. You executed it well!
Thanks man ❤️🥹🥰
Loving the storytelling and review 🙌. Your day to day photography is awesome buddy. What lense was used for the night photography? Was any of the night shots on this clip was taken with the 27mm 2.8? As you mentioned the night shooting isn’t great but the results you got in these samples shown is awesome, wondering if some was taking with the 27mm.
Everything was taken with the 27mm 2.8, I don’t have another lens. The night shots that made the cut had enough light in them to recover decently, but even then I think most off them were pushed about a stop in post. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and my photos!
Hi Marc, I’m hoping you can help me with something that I have come across that I’ve never seen before. Wondering if you happen to experience an issue that I’m experiencing. I’m in a process of purchasing an xt3, but I noticed when I took a test shot then went to take another image shot, the back screen was showing an overlay of the previous image of around 70% opacity (ghost image). This happened a few times, sadly I didn’t take footage of this faulty. But it was enough times to be 🤔. Reset camera and it seems to have stop. Just have concerns purchasing as this may come back. Let me know your thoughts 🙏. Thanks
I haven’t witness this on any of the fujis I’ve used, this sounds like an issue.
@@MarcTaraz thanks Marc, I haven’t seen this on any camera🙈. Surprised this is happening, but this could of been a fault from a previous user - could also be software or hardware. It was new from a retailer and was returned within 30 days. Retailer has dropped the price to £679 with 18-55mm f2.8. Such a shame as it’s a great price tag.
@@JustSurfingAround I’m guessing that’s double exposure? Fujis have that feature
Fujifilm Fan here XT3 though, love the HK content. Toyed with the idea of the XE4, sadly just lost my GR3 so maybe this is alternative? Except the low light thing and no IBIS makes me pause.
I’m so glad you enjoy the HK shots!
The retro wave in the background 😅
the truth has been spoken
Love it! I got it as well and I feel the same way! Amazing video btw!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed! It’s such a great camera
So what actually better aspect from XE4 vs V? the price and interchangeable lens? If that's the case then I disagree. It can be a budget alternative for X100V but the cheaper price and ability to change the lens doesn't necessarily means it better. Both serve different product positioning that include purposes and target market. X100V is an all around camera with just one lens for those who doesn't want to get bothered with lens choices and still get an outstanding result even for beginner who just use Auto mode only. This is a plus not minus for this product positioning and single lens is a challenge to boost your creativity, a simply great product for beginner who's still learn or awesome B cam for pro and hobbyist. While XE4 is a budget pro (semi pro) that serve many purposes with the right lens. Built quality? same metal but in a second you will able to tell which one is more expensive by the feeling when you hold, you touch and operate. Not like XE4, X100V is not just a sleeker XM1 body design with new sensor and tech. It also more classic Fuji design look than XE4. Actually the list go on if we are talking about the comparative aspect on both camera. XE4 can be an alternative budget for X100V with the right setup is yes, but better is no. X70 and other X100 line before V also can be alternative budget with good quality images as long as you're not pixel peeps. Or XE3 is even cheaper than XE4 with better handling and ergonomics.
Great video! 🔥
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed!
let's be honest: whatever camera you take on a walk on streets of Tokyo (or Japan in general) at night you wilk get amazing shots 😊
"the reason why I was drawn towards this camera"
Becuase the x100v was sold out LMAO
Had the X100V, sold it, at a really good price, love my XE4 and its 27mm ... just perfect ... and you have one more film simulation that the X100V does not have
Selling an x100v right now is like cashing in gold. You're gonna get a great deal on it
Dope video. What recipes/film simulations were you using throughout these images?
My favorite two simulations are classic chrome and classic neg, I use them for pretty much everything!
beautiful photos
The sexiest photographer ever! The camera is nice. Keep on rolling!
Haha! Thank you! I appreciate that
Big fan of the x-e4 , I use 2 . the 27mm puts me in trouble tho , in some streets here I can't step back far enough to capture graffiti on the other side of the street . I mostly use it with a 10-24 f4 , it's big but it's awesome . I don't quite get it how that 27 is like half the size of the 16 and 23 . They should make some cool 16 pancake
A wider pancake would be nice. Or just smaller lenses in general
There is the 18f2, which is also very compact
I use the xe4 since one year now. I selled the 27 an miss the compact size. I use the xe 4 with the old 35/1.4
I’ve been thinking about that lens for a while now, everyone I talk to loves it
Nice video, I am thinking of a Fuji camera both for photo and video and was thinking of the x-t5 . It does have all the simulation of the x100v/xe4 right ?
Excellent video, just please make music volume lower once you speak 👌
I'm glad you enjoyed!
