The irony of the recovery guy talking about a "Competition to do the stupidest thing", then proceeds to load wearing trainers, winchs off a screw-in towing eye, fails to release the Sprinter from park/release EPB and then tries to straighten the truck/van, (dodgy angle caused by pulling off one side instead of using a brother strap,) with the bed off and on the ground which can bend the subframe! 🤦♂️ If one of our drivers spoke to a customer like that and loaded/abused equipment like that he'd have a P45 in his hand!
Not a customer though. Obviously one of the companies Ocado uses and the guy driving the van is even lower down the pecking order than the recovery driver.
Completely clueless to how the 4WD system works, maybe its seized as its never been used. They are apparently very capable in the right hands. The new Range Rover has an automatic terrain response mode as turning a knob to a picture of the terrain your on was still too difficult for most in the previous model.
@gs188 if it is on summer tires then he was probably best reversing These awd vehicles are good but you want all season tires like michichilin Cross climate or winter tires if you are going to push them. I have cross climate on my volvo xc60 and know I could get my car past that but wouldn't risk it with a summer compound tire.
Looked like it was going so slip sideways into the van, probably a wise decision. You could see it lurch to the left as the traction control kicked in.
Everyone can make a mistake - I feel sorry for the van driver just trying to get through a days work. The recovery driver looks like they're having a bad day too. Hopefully better times for them both soon. 🙂
I used to work at Ocado as a driver. The air intakes are very low on these Sprinters so a lot of people get caught out. He will likely get in a lot of trouble for this and you can guarantee his managers will find this video and use it against him. All the people trying to squeeze past wow. It’s pretty obvious it’s too tight to get through the tiny muddy gap. Especially the Kia who wouldn’t give up trying!
Typical UK driver mentality these days, 'Oh look the exit to the ford is blocked by a broken down vehicle, lets force our way through regardless'! At no point did they stop to think what caused the vehicle to break down, nor did they consider how they would get past it!
6:59 Did the recovery driver not apply the handbrake?? And as for dragging a loaded tilt slide sideways, that and the trainers were a sacking offence when i was doing recovery.
The Ocado driver had the decency to phone his customer and say what the delay was. They were also kind enough to give him a break and collect their shopping from him. Lesson learned and we know he wont be pushing his luck with flooded roads again. The recovery driver was just an utter twat 👍
Ocado van breaks down and you still have thick drivers, try to get pass the bollards that are there, and don't seem brothered if they scratch their car.
@@landrover5386 Also the car could be untaxed as the cameras that detect cars for that won't read the plate, and no tax means no insurance so if they crash into anyone good luck.
For reference the Sprinter is only rated by Merc until the water meets the front bumper. And the centre is the lowest point. That's lower than some cars! And the supermarket vans are autos and almost everything is electrical. Handbrake is manual, but presumably the transmission made it to park on battery power. He's meant to install the skids *before* winching to protect the tyres and transmission. I worked with a guy who took a supermarket van so deep the groceries and his feet got wet...
@@craig361 not if you follow the process. Phone the depot, phone the customer then phone customer services tellingthem you cannot drive through the ford as it is too deep. Also if you can email the depot so that when customer services have lost the record you have some evidence when you get called to the desk.
Wonder why it wouldn't come out of gear. I thought most delivery vans were manuals or has that changed recently? Even an auto should go into neutral if there's no power unless its some BMW style computerised up its arse nonsense.
Most delivery vans are autos nowadays. All Ocado vans are Auto. Always have been. Mercedes now use a gear shift stalk on the steering column. There will be a manual release for the gearbox somewhere possibly under the bonnet. The recovery guy should have done that first but didn’t bother. It’s likely he would have caused damage to the gearbox dragging it like that. Ocado normally send out Mercedes assist first who could have got it into neutral. They have a contract with Mercedes (unless it’s changed recently)
Young Ocado driver dropped a bollock there but that recovery driver was a complete unprofessional muppet.
I worked for Ocado 9 years ago, we were told to avoid flooded roads and ford's, as the air intake is low down by the front wheel.
Must rude grumpy stupid recovery driver ever... maybe about 4/5 things he did wrong.and then called out the driver ffs
The "we're hiring" on the ocado van door is a bit ironic. 🤣

@neilrobertson811 yes but extremely rude behaviour, The ocado driver, however foolish his driving, might have been was perfectly polite.
@@paulf2529 True, but IME a lot of these guys are dicks and often work for companies that also impound cars.

The R&S recovery driver was an example of how not to load a vehicle.
What a cowboy
Nice safety footwear too
What the hell is that recovery truck driver doing!!
That recovery was shocking 😮!
Someone did that in a Tesco van when I worked there, he done 9k worth of damage. He has since been named aquaman

It was a tight gap and he was probably worried about his car slipping and hitting the Ocado van and getting a nasty dent.

That. Recovery agent needs to be retrained what a Muppet

Another good one from Ben, and Christine B on horseback too, the fun never stops at Shell ford!
I like how Ocado boy lifts the bonnet like he thinks he’s going to be able to fix the problem. Probably looking for spark plugs in a diesel 😂😂
@lanehogger KIDS, 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤪
Not hiring the berry best drivers, apparently.
For that money companies pay in UK you only get monkeys.

I know pretty much nothing about vehicle recovery, but even I was shaking my head at that. I don't get what positive outcome could come from that.
It’s impossible to take the van out of manual mode when the engine is off
