It has been three months since I stopped listening music, wallahi by the help of Allah after leaving music, I have been able to pray 5 times namaz and read/listen Quran and enjoy the most. I never thought that one day, I would be able to leave music because I had tried many times but this one time I pray so much to Allah azzawajal for the help and Alhamdulillah my dua seems to have been answered. I was addicted to music back when I didn't know better, those emotional ones that would make it impossible to leave. I'd delete all of them, then redownload them again when my iman goes down. It was a back and forth thing and I know many young muslims have the same problem. Here's how I defeated music and it's not by leaving it abruptly but by making it making it difficult to reach my playlists. I'd be happy knowing they're still there but since they're not on my phone and computer I can't easily get to them and I put off listening until I forget all about it. It's been over 10 years now and trick still works. I hope you find the strength to leave the haraam InshaAllah!

I am not a muslim but I am reading the Quran now because of hearing some singing prayers next to my house ( I live in south India). That singing inspired me to get to know about Islam. So if the words are free of any bid’ah or exaggeration that is condemned by sharee’ah, and it is free of any bad or ugly words that are inappropriate and should not be said of Allaah, then it is acceptable to sing such things occasionally, on condition that it is not done in the manner of singers and promiscuous people, because that is imitating people of immorality and sin (“and whoever imitates a people is one of them”). Hating those singers for the sake of Allaah implies that we should not resemble them or imitate their style of singing. With regard to some words or poems which were originally said about people, it is not correct to repeat them and devote them to Allaah. Rather the believer should glorify and venerate Allaah by reciting aayahs from the Qur’aan and dhikr as prescribed in sharee’ah, and du’aa’s narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), focusing on the greatness, majesty and glory of Allaah. If he occasionally recites some verses of poetry which praise Allaah and mention His blessings and bounty, there is nothing wrong with that so long as they meet the conditions mentioned above. And Allaah knows best.

i am addicted to it as well, but before i even watched this video, i always could see the influence it has on the way people act and live, especially rap music. but what separates me from that is that i listen but not live the life praised in the music

The Scholar Imam Shawkani compiled all Hadiths regarding music and concluded that music is halal, so all your points have no meaning at all. Also no nation from the time of Adam PBUH to Prophet Mohammad PBUH, music was ever banned in their nations, but they banned alcohol, pork, usury, intoxicants etc. I live in Saudi Arabia, and there was not a single point in time in history that music was banned from shops, but pork, intoxicants, alcohol is banned in majority Islamic nations, And I'm 100% sure that you cannot give me a time where the sale of music or musical instruments were banned in any nation. Bro I can’t believe I came across this video because we’re so similar and I recently came to this same realization. I thought I would become a musician for so long. I’ve written my own songs, produced beats, learned music theory etc. But I realized that music was no different than porn in the way that it abuses your brain’s dopamine system. And this meant a lot because I’ve struggled with porn addiction. Honestly though I’ve just grown to dislike music because the lyrics are nonsense and it gives me a headache.
I guess that I am still addicted. I like music but, I don't listen to it often anymore, I have never been a concert goer, and I am extremely selective. I played flute for 10 years and learned how to play many many instruments as well as singing since I was very very small. Apparently I have an extremely good voice but, somehow I never really took it anywhere. I don't trust the music industry at all. You really need to trust someone to listen to what they are saying in the lyrics. I like Bach, I like Beethoven, I like Vivaldi. Lyrics are just poetry put to music. You are right though Brother, it is an addiction, it is ugly, the things said are quite nasty, and I will be more aware of what goes in my ears. Its something that I'm going to try to do better on. I agree with you, and I had a personal experience in my late teens when I stopped listening to music and started listening to Quran, and then learned to recite it. I had a Walkman with earphones, and I used to play Metallica albums on it, but I started playing tapes of Quran reciters instead later on. The effect of the Quran is supernatural and extraordinary and it made me abandon the music that I used to love. Thank you, jazak Allah khairan
SubhanAllah. I also began thinking of music to be in the category of intoxicants because of the mood altering properties. As a revert, leaving music was harder than the other stuff, SubhanAllah.

When a sound comes out of a guitar, it's the actual sound from that instrument with the person playing it. When a computer makes a sound, its already put together generically. There is defiantly a difference between a real sound and a fake sound. Rock n roll has always been good and real. Rap is completely fake and easy money.

So even if you play classical music with a piano, that would be haram? Or to to bring your kids to a music school? But is singing to Allah, during the prayers forbiden too? It’s a beautification of the Quran recitation. The Quran has its own built in melody as Wisam Sharieff would say. Each person uses their voice and follows that construction
The part with the music tricking you into accepting lyrics is very true. In my case if I get angry I'd listen to death metal or something, because I liked the sound but I now realize that the lyrics are morally unacceptable, they contain things such as murder, adultery, and just grotesque stuff in general. I'm very careful about what I listen to now, you have to pay attention and keep moderation.
I love how a good portion of well-known reverts on youtube were artists themselves lol must be such a struggle to transition from when you decide to follow the deen.

My personal experience with songs happened when I started listening to Quraan on daily basis, I told myself that reading is not enough , I must listen even if for 10-20 minutes a day ( Those minutes became hours later ❤) After all, this is how Quraan was revealed to the Prophet PBU ( sound recited before it was written) I was not intentionally trying to take music out of my life or anything but it happened automatically, Even without thinking , Subhan Allah after a while I started humming verses instead of songs, it sounds more beautiful than music in my brain and heart , it even helped me memories Sura’s because it kept repeating itself inside my brain . I hope that this helps anyone struggling , like it helped me . 5 minutes can change your life

The first part I felt I like I was being personally attacked 😂. I’m addictive to these pain killers and I hate it. I got prescribed painkillers for a condition that I have that comes and goes every now and then and I didn’t even know these pain killers were addictive. I just kept getting prescriptions. I was thinking you have to take what the doctor gives you because he knows better. This was someone over years. I was not only addicted I became dependent. And when I told the doctor I was addicted to the medicine (opioids). They complete cut me off. Now it’s drugs bad!! Well after years of taking painkillers in larger and larger amounts as I genuinely do have a painful condition which flares up every week or so. It’s impossible for me to take the pills for one week and not the other. I don’t want to go through withdraws every single week. Well that forced me to go to the streets to get the drugs as I was physically dependent and was in so much pain I was forced to. Now I have a unlimited access of the drug for cheap. These drugs ruined my brain. I’m really trying to get off. Inshaallah within 1 month I should be off completely.
Thing is, most music, and I mean at least over 97% of it today points towards a horrific lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, squandering money etc. Whereas old school music, for example (What's going on-Marvin gay, the album) points towards a known oppression at the time (Vietnam wat) and talks of strengthening brotherhood and unity amongst one another. So it's hard to know if music truly is haram, given it's intention.
You are right about many things. Music is way more effective than people think. But there are many types of music. And there's no solid evidence that it is haram.
As I'm hearing the hadith I remembered one thing. I sent a message to the Polish Muslim Organisation in Warsaw directed by Arabian Mufti . In my message I explained this hadith as I saw anasheeds with music were posted on their official facebook page. Music (with lyrics) is rarely beneficial these days. Mostly dark & low vibrational messages. It's really unnecessary (unless you are literally seeking to dumb-down and encounter these lowly vibrations). Rap in particular has been poisoned. Especially mainstream rap. I love that you are able to recognize this and relay the message of light. In all honesty, I know what I need to be happy. Although I don't think music is impermissible in and of itself, I totally agree with your point about the filthy vocals. That's why I guess muslims should be picky about what they listen to. I'd also like to point out that I was a very ignorant boy, muslim only by name, until I came across the music of Maher Zain and the likes. Because music is so powerful, combining it with devotional signing invoked the love of Allah in my soul and made me go back to Him, which is why I don't claim music is a tool that's impermissible on it's own, as long as it is wholesome and inviting to the path of Allah. Regarding the hadeeth that you quoted, despite it being in Sahih Al-Bukhari, it is from the "Mu'alla9at", where the chain of narration is broken. Could be used for reference, but we can't derive any rulings from it. In general this is a debated issue between scholars and Allah knows best.
Nah all scholars agree music is haram. The difference of opinion is between whether vocals are permissible or not becuase is imitates music. And how can Haram bring you closer to Allah? One guy told me smoking weed makes him closer to Allah. Don't justify haram to fulfill your vain desires
There are definitely songs that should be avoided, but I don't find the Hadith that says that the prophet said that people will make musical instruments permissible to be exactly reliable. It's in Bukhari, but it's in the appendix (end of Bukhari), which means it's Hadith that lacks a person there to prove it's authenticity. Plus, there's another Hadith in Bukhari which says that anyone who claims that the prophet predicted a future event is lying.

The Scholar Imam Shawkani compiled all Hadiths regarding music and concluded that music is halal, so all your points have no meaning at all. Also no nation from the time of Adam PBUH to Prophet Mohammad PBUH, music was ever banned in their nations, but they banned alcohol, pork, usury, intoxicants etc. I live in Saudi Arabia, and there was not a single point in time in history that music was banned from shops, but pork, intoxicants, alcohol is banned in majority Islamic nations, And I'm 100% sure that you cannot give me a time where the sale of music or musical instruments were banned in any nation. Bro I can’t believe I came across this video because we’re so similar and I recently came to this same realization. I thought I would become a musician for so long. I’ve written my own songs, produced beats, learned music theory etc. But I realized that music was no different than porn in the way that it abuses your brain’s dopamine system. And this meant a lot because I’ve struggled with porn addiction. Honestly though I’ve just grown to dislike music because the lyrics are nonsense and it gives me a headache.

I guess that I am still addicted. I like music but, I don't listen to it often anymore, I have never been a concert goer, and I am extremely selective.
I played flute for 10 years and learned how to play many many instruments as well as singing since I was very very small.
Apparently I have an extremely good voice but, somehow I never really took it anywhere.
I don't trust the music industry at all. You really need to trust someone to listen to what they are saying in the lyrics.
I like Bach, I like Beethoven, I like Vivaldi.
Lyrics are just poetry put to music.

I agree with you, and I had a personal experience in my late teens when I stopped listening to music and started listening to Quran, and then learned to recite it. I had a Walkman with earphones, and I used to play Metallica albums on it, but I started playing tapes of Quran reciters instead later on. The effect of the Quran is supernatural and extraordinary and it made me abandon the music that I used to love. Thank you, jazak Allah khairan
SubhanAllah. I also began thinking of music to be in the category of intoxicants because of the mood altering properties. As a revert, leaving music was harder than the other stuff, SubhanAllah.

It’s a beautification of the Quran recitation. The Quran has its own built in melody as Wisam Sharieff would say. Each person uses their voice and follows that construction

The part with the music tricking you into accepting lyrics is very true. In my case if I get angry I'd listen to death metal or something, because I liked the sound but I now realize that the lyrics are morally unacceptable, they contain things such as murder, adultery, and just grotesque stuff in general. I'm very careful about what I listen to now, you have to pay attention and keep moderation.

My personal experience with songs happened when I started listening to Quraan on daily basis,
I told myself that reading is not enough , I must listen even if for 10-20 minutes a day ( Those minutes became hours later ❤)
After all, this is how Quraan was revealed to the Prophet PBU ( sound recited before it was written)
I was not intentionally trying to take music out of my life or anything but it happened automatically, Even without thinking ,
Subhan Allah after a while I started humming verses instead of songs, it sounds more beautiful than music in my brain and heart , it even helped me memories Sura’s because it kept repeating itself inside my brain .

@@YFL.111 what’s Islamic religious music? Do you mean the Quran? If so, its the literal words of Allah. It’s not music. There are no musical instruments used when Quran is recited. Classical music uses instruments which are not permissible in Islam.

I don’t really listen to stuff like that nor do I understand the point of it. A person can remember Allah (God) and say His names if they like. The first part I felt I like I was being personally attacked 😂. I’m addictive to these pain killers and I hate it. I got prescribed painkillers for a condition that I have that comes and goes every now and then and I didn’t even know these pain killers were addictive. I just kept getting prescriptions. I was thinking you have to take what the doctor gives you because he knows better. This was someone over years. I was not only addicted I became dependent. And when I told the doctor I was addicted to the medicine (opioids). They complete cut me off. Now it’s drugs bad!! Well after years of taking painkillers in larger and larger amounts as I genuinely do have a painful condition which flares up every week or so. It’s impossible for me to take the pills for one week and not the other. I don’t want to go through withdraws every single week. Well that forced me to go to the streets to get the drugs as I was physically dependent and was in so much pain I was forced to. Now I have a unlimited access of the drug for cheap. These drugs ruined my brain. I’m really trying to get off. Inshaallah within 1 month I should be off completely.

Try to pray qiyaam al-layl and supplicate to God and talk to him about your suffering and cry, it will help you
Thing is, most music, and I mean at least over 97% of it today points towards a horrific lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, squandering money etc. Whereas old school music, for example (What's going on-Marvin gay, the album) points towards a known oppression at the time (Vietnam wat) and talks of strengthening brotherhood and unity amongst one another. So it's hard to know if music truly is haram, given it's intention.
You are right about many things. Music is way more effective than people think. But there are many types of music. And there's no solid evidence that it is haram.

As I'm hearing the hadith I remembered one thing. I sent a message to the Polish Muslim Organisation in Warsaw directed by Arabian Mufti . In my message I explained this hadith as I saw anasheeds with music were posted on their official facebook page. I got the response that music is not forbiden and the hadith is not a proof because it's not un authentic hadith probably

Music (with lyrics) is rarely beneficial these days. Mostly dark & low vibrational messages. It's really unnecessary (unless you are literally seeking to dumb-down and encounter these lowly vibrations). Rap in particular has been poisoned. Especially mainstream rap. I love that you are able to recognize this and relay the message of light. In all honesty, I know what I need to be happy. Maybe somebody else can see this and also utilize it:

Although I don't think music is impermissible in and of itself, I totally agree with your point about the filthy vocals. That's why I guess muslims should be picky about what they listen to. I'd also like to point out that I was a very ignorant boy, muslim only by name, until I came across the music of Maher Zain and the likes. Because music is so powerful, combining it with devotional signing invoked the love of Allah in my soul and made me go back to Him, which is why I don't claim music is a tool that's impermissible on it's own, as long as it is wholesome and inviting to the path of Allah. Regarding the hadeeth that you quoted, despite it being in Sahih Al-Bukhari, it is from the "Mu'alla9at", where the chain of narration is broken. Could be used for reference, but we can't derive any rulings from it. In general this is a debated issue between scholars and Allah knows best.
Nah all scholars agree music is haram. The difference of opinion is between whether vocals are permissible or not becuase is imitates music. And how can Haram bring you closer to Allah? One guy told me smoking weed makes him closer to Allah. Don't justify haram to fulfill your vain desires

There are definitely songs that should be avoided, but I don't find the Hadith that says that the prophet said that people will make musical instruments permissible to be exactly reliable. It's in Bukhari, but it's in the appendix (end of Bukhari), which means it's Hadith that lacks a person there to prove it's authenticity. Plus, there's another Hadith in Bukhari which says that anyone who claims that the prophet predicted a future event is lying.
