Something else to consider with regards to Wee Bey's professionalism is his connection to Striger Bell. Stringer, while not as cut throat as Bey or Avon, or as shrew at business as someone like Clay Davis, he was incredibly disciplined, so much so that he even had to remind and double down on the rules with Wee Bey. It can be argued that not only did Season 3 highlight the deficiency or breakdown in the game, with the rise of Marlow, but it also demonstrated the breakdown in professionalism because Stringer was arguably the more effective leader (as he actually led most of the day to day operations in season 1, including hits) but he was only effective as long as someone like Wee Bey was at his disposal. It's interesting how the downfall of an entire organization can be traced to one character like this. Good shit.
Stringer was a good coo. The problem is the vision was set by Avon. As long as they were aligned they were winning. Stringer wanted to transition out and Marlow wanted the streets. This misalignment is why they lost.
Another thing you forgot to point out Stringer and Avon wore working better as a team in season one it's like they balanced each other out they didn't see eye to as much in season 3 which had alot to do with they're downfall it's really a combination of different things like them losing most they're muscle in season one and stringer didn't have that respect that Avon did by either the street soldiers or the plugs
Remember who you talkin to right here my word is my word in here in Baltimore or any place you think about calling home it's going to be my word that finds you
My two favorite Weebay scenes is when Stringer tells him "she ain't dead" (Kima, the undercover) and him confessing, while drinking a coke and eating a pit beef sandwich. Both classic scenes.
Just another way this show is great. You could draw alot of parallels from the kids in season 4, to other adult characters from season 1 and forward, almost showing how those adults became who they were by showing the kids journey. Namond was like D’Angelo, Dukie became like Bubbles and Michael became a lone wolf robber like Omar. Just showing the cycle of the streets.
@@ldirty215 I don’t know if I’d call D spoiled if that’s what you meant. D had a good work ethic and his mother told him a story detailing how she let him fend for himself once.
at the end of it all one shot said a lot about Bey's respect, when he was the first person Chris walked up to, to be taken under his wing ( Chris aint soft, aint dumb and is able to handle himself, but even Chris know Bey a legendary enforcer, and a great advisor and caretaker aside from his kill streak. so to see two rivalling enforcers kicking it on the inside says a lot about the respect thats there.
That's because of lack of parenting. People are out here in the streets being gangsters and then having babies without training them properly. It starts in the home.
Season 4 is one of the many reasons why I go so hard as a mother. Why I made sure to have a strong husband and father in my son’s life. Why I am so big on emotional health and not controlling, but guiding & protecting my little one. It might be not be the best season...but it does something to my heart that I can’t explain.
Wee Bey for sure one of my top three characters from The Wire. The thing is, I really noticed it when I rewatched the show (multiple times). He one of the realest in the entire show.
Ayooooo “My word is still my word. In here. In Baltimore. And in any place you think of calling home? It’ll be my word that finds you.” One of the coldest quotes ever. He was not playing about Naymond
One of favorite scenes in the show was only 3 seconds…. seeing Weebey and Chris possibly trading war stories . Under-rated and super respected characters.
Wee Bey is the illest and most legendary character on The Wire. I agree season 1 was the best. It had more layers. Marlo, Snoop and Chris were dark AF. Like Grim reapers. Season 1 was a different era. Stringer was dark just like Marlo crew. That's why he had to go. Salute to Wee Bey. True soldier of The Wire.
The Wire is literally my favourite show and I was not ready for this channel. You literally gave me goosebumps bruh, analysis was absolutely incredible
I remember watching for the first time when Wee-Bey says "...and anywhere you call home. It'll be my name that finds you" and DeLonda looks terrified because she knows that his name carries such respect that if he tells Avon or Stringer that she's gotta go, then she's gone. No questions asked. She lives on a knife's edge. She wanted to be part of the game and be gangster but didn't think through the consequences of attaching herself to a soldier/assassin. She figured that having Namond and being attached to Bey would set her up for life and give her a rep. She didn't realise that in the scheme of things she's kinda worthless and expendable. Double edged sword.
WeeBey caring so much about his fish was so good, even tho he has a hard exterior he does have a good heart somewhere in there. It’s all about perspective right
I totally agree with you. I remember not loving it the first time around but watching it again it was extremely well done. So much shit went down. I just had a really hard time with Iggy, he was the most annoying character by far. I get that he felt he had a lot to prove but he was so incredibly stupid.
You should review season 2. Most people dislike it on the first watch, but grow to appreciate it after rewatches. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
@@gregorylibra5114 that’s how life be sometimes you see how you got a glimpse of marlo and Avon making peace. I got nothing but love in my heart ❤️ for west side niggas ( pumps chest )
You think Chris is an Iraq veteran? It would explain his ability to soldier, also he doesn't dress the same as most characters. The others dress baggy hip-hop or at least try to be stylish, whereas Chris dresses like a Scottish brewer. I think his background is different.
Marlo wouldn't have had a chance if Avon had Wee Bay, Stringer, Bird, Stinkum, Savino, Little Man, etc. They had a stacked crew. Chris and Snoop couldn't or wouldn't go against those hitters. The fucking A-Team with WeeBay as there Commander
I disagree. Snoop and Chris were serial killers. They were emotionless killers. Yes they all are when it comes down to it. But not everybody can pull out teeth and dismembered bodies. Yea I definitely put season 3 at my #1 as well, and I can agree with the remaining order as well, even tho Barksdales crew wasn't as strong as they were in season 1, they definitely had the ups on Marlo if Stringer didn't pull that telling card on Avon..
The parallels between characters are always brilliant on this show but damn the Namond/D’angelo one is deep! It was easier to see Namond becoming Clay Davis but he definitely was D position wise.
& make sure you don't try & short him by giving slaw instead of his tata salad. Seriously though not glorifying the streets it's not glamorous but he understood no one made him do any of that shit I mean hell even Avon when they was talking in the cell didn't know some work Weebay did which tells you he's not looking for a name & what he does for a living was truly him. He took responsibility for his actions alone didn't blame no one didn't feel some type of way towards Avon going in & getting out super fast & he didn't look at Stringer funny when he didn't get booked. Weebay was real as they come besides how tall he stood for the crew what made me really tip my hat towards him was when he let his only child his only son have a future outside his name to live with Bunny Colvin says a lot about his character as a man. Shot out to Bunny Colvin as well for when he talked to Weebay he treated him with the up most respect & never looked down or act like he was better than him.
That's the first time I've heard a parallel between D'Angelo and Namond, and it makes so much sense! I love that scene with Bunny and Weebey "I'm talking about Namond here Mr. Brice" but it never really clicked for me why Bey agreed until you brought up that Dee/Namond parallel from Bey's perspective
It didn’t dawn on me that Wee Bay was mentoring Dee. But the signs was there because Avon never yelled at him. He was always teaching him and with those clips, I never realized Wee Bay was quick admonished him.
That's one thing I enjoyed about the later seasons. You saw all the parallels between the old and new generation, and how the streets took them from kids to the end results. Webey figured some stuff out and is breaking the cycle for his son.
Great vid again. Subtle point that showed Weebay's personality was in his Omar shootout despite being completely surprised he moved TOWARDS Omar in the shootout. E.g. forward. Says a lot about him. I see a lot of similarities between Weebay, Slim and Omar. All strong "codes" and a good meta awareness of their position in their worlds. Last of a generation I feel before the ruthless wave of Chris/Snoop muscle.
Great observation bro, Weebey did the same thing in the second shootout with Omar. Bey heard shots and immediately ran towards the danger zone. It was Bey that made Omar run to New York after he came at the king and missed.
@@renzopeterson153 Oh really. Didn't realize he did it both times. Forgot to check that shootout. Loved Weebay. Not a single character in the Wire that didn't have a deep backstory.

Each one of the 60 episodes are absolutely essential. Every season is a masterpiece, a different perspective of the downfall of the American empire. In the words of Det. Lester Freemon, 'All the pieces matter...' Your observations of Wee-Bey are on point. I think similar insights can be drawn from most of the players. I was brought up on tv from the late 50's... without a doubt, 'The WIRE' is the best the medium has ever produced. It is beyond entertainment. Baltimore is the biopsy that identifies the terminal diseases infecting America. Unfortunately, the prognosis is not good.
Bruh all seasons of the Wire were great in their own way. People are so used to seeing the hood shit from seasons one and three. Season two is basically showing you a different side. Also where the good dope was coming from
Shows the good and the grimy of all aspects of the game. Po's, schools, politics, workforce, dope game, crew life. A big game of chess.....better yet, Risk💯
I love all the seasons, but I think season 4 really illustrates how early the cycle begins that everyone in the show gets trapped in. All these social, political, and economic problems start almost immediately in childhood. Schools are usually the first "institution" we're exposed to, and in most cases in America, it's the first institution to fail us, and set us up for the rest of the cycle the show explores. The school system depicted in the wire is not much different than a prison system. A lot of these kids don't stand a chance right out of the gate...

You’re perspective and analysis is on point. I’m from west Baltimore and I was around as a teen when the wire was filming. You should do videos on Power and Raising Kanan.
I like how you put some manosphere spiel in there at the end with the single mom analysis. Mothers are supposed to soft and nurturing. Delonda and Brianna really destroyed their sons. They didn't make them into men, because they couldn't.
Great analysis of Wee Bey! I never thought about the Namond and D'Angelo connection and how Wee Bey played a pivotal role in both their lives. I want to respond to what you say in the beginning about season 4 fans being casual fans. Season 4 is great because it shows the cyclical nature of the streets, demonstrating the origins of the key characters through the next generation. I put it slightly above season 1 mostly because of the Michael to Omar and Dukie to Bubbles transformations. Season 1 is great no doubt. It is like watching a documentary and lays the groundwork for later seasons, and Wallace's death is one of the most tragic, if not the most tragic in the entire series. Season 4 fills in a lot of the backstory, not by only telling individual stories but by showing how those individuals, young kids, are shaped by the streets and changed forever. By showing how their innocence is lost and their tragedies is what makes season 4 compelling on so many levels and the best season of The Wire.
Damn you got me about to go rewatch season 4 now lol me personally I love season 4….I think I subconsciously resent it somewhat because marks the beginning of the end. Every season of The wire was a masterpiece it’s only flaw is only having 5 seasons👌🏽 thanks for the insight bro I appreciate it💯
Man this video was amazing, I loved dee, and bey was one of the coolest characters in the show, but he wasn’t cool because he could kill without thinking on it, he was cool because he stayed true to his word, followed the rules, and in the end was able to be there for his son in the best way he could. The wire is truly so good for the stories that they don’t tell you, the stories that you uncover on a second watch, and even all the trough lines and parallels in scenes that seemingly might not matter. it paints this picture of how the injustice involved in some of the systems in place can create these almost lose lose situations for the lower class, and in some cases the branches of the government causing problems for the other systems in place. It’s a broken cycle that almost always is reflected in the street.

What makes Wee Bey a walking paradox is his depth, as you mentioned. The dude is likeable but can be scary at times. He also is very cunning, but also shows love to the people around him. He's a very interesting character and very well-written. It also shows how well of an actor Hassan Johnson is.

@@enochraine5534 Succinctly put, an EXCELLENT STATEMENT OF "THE FACT OF THE MATTER!" THANK YOU!!!

My two favorite Weebay scenes is when Stringer tells him "she ain't dead" (Kima, the undercover) and him confessing, while drinking a coke and eating a pit beef sandwich. Both classic scenes.
Became one of the greatest gifs and memes.
The beef sandwich no fck given and naaahhhh is a timeless classic
Nicca was taking charges for murders he didn't even commit..Straight up G
Facts.. That face he had made😂😂😂 then he says "she looked like one of orlando's hoes"😂 🔥
That Namond and D’angelo connection is something I never thought about
Naymond was D down to the T. He had the smarts and head.. he just didn’t have the heart or body to follow through.. spoiled to an extent if you will.
Also, Dennis is supposed to represent D, but if he managed to get out of the game and go straight
Yeah, they made the Clay Davis thing obvious but this was nice and subtle.

Hell of a breakdown. I say it all the time . These young people aren’t tough or gangsta, they’re are just emotional and can’t fight.
No lie 💯
Shooting someone don't make you no gangsta
That's because of lack of parenting. People are out here in the streets being gangsters and then having babies without training them properly. It starts in the home.
Wee Bay was the most grimy believable character of the show. Really wish he could have had a showdown with Marlo. Bruh was that dude.
The biggest letdown of the entire show was Avon getting popped off when they had the drop on Marlo. 🤦♂️ Every time I watch it I get pissed.

💯
Wee Bey for sure one of my top three characters from The Wire. The thing is, I really noticed it when I rewatched the show (multiple times). He one of the realest in the entire show.
Yes. I work in a junior high in Brooklyn.
That's why season 4 was so personal to me.....and my teacher wife. Salute to this channel.
Ayooooo “My word is still my word. In here. In Baltimore. And in any place you think of calling home? It’ll be my word that finds you.”
One of the coldest quotes ever.
McNulty convincing Brianna that she failed her son, and Michael leaving his little brother are two of my favorite scenes.
I got HBO back in the day specifically to see The Wire. Your break downs and deep dives are EPIC!!!
Yet Weebay chose her ..laid down with her..and contributed in having a child with her..while in the game..
As an old head & one who grew up in that world, that's the best breakdown of The Wire & the streets itself. Good shit.
You're a great story teller. From tone to the plot and everything in between! Thanks
WeeBey caring so much about his fish was so good, even tho he has a hard exterior he does have a good heart somewhere in there. It’s all about perspective right
You can’t forget season 2. I didn’t like it at first, but now it’s one of my favorite seasons.
Great video. I love the final scene where you see that Wee Bey and Chris are friends, they made the same sacrifice for their bosses.
The irony of being on opposite sides ( of a war) , being expendable at the end!

Man if The police had waited like 10 minutes to move in and Avon answered the call from slim Marlo would’ve been done right there
I disagree. Snoop and Chris were serial killers. They were emotionless killers. Yes they all are when it comes down to it. But not everybody can pull out teeth and dismembered bodies. People they knew that whole life is just on an order alone with no questions asked. Now those two are definitely capable of wiping out a whole crew of went by still gang had after the second season
Ummmm yes they would
@@birdswithfeatherflocktoget4332 u talk about them pulling out teeth and what not, Wee Bey and Bird or Stinkum tortured Brandon Omar's BF worse than anything Chris and Snoop did on the show as far as torture. So Avon's crew I think had more ruthless killers and would've won I think but fuck who knows lolol. Chris and Snoop were still just as Ruthless and bad ass so I can see your point

Great minds think alike lol
Yea I definitely put season 3 at my #1 as well, and I can agree with the remaining order as well, even tho Barksdales crew wasn't as strong as they were in season 1, they definitely had the ups on Marlo if Stringer didn't pull that telling card on Avon..
I partially agree, but I would have to put 2 last.
Season 2 is the most important Season
Season 2 is the least favorite but it’s so important for the build up of plot and characters.
The parallels between characters are always brilliant on this show but damn the Namond/D’angelo one is deep! It was easier to see Namond becoming Clay Davis but he definitely was D position wise.
Gotta fw weebay...he aint bring nobody down with him...all he wanted a pit beef sandwich😂
Wit a lot of horseradish and some tata salad
Medium rare lotsa horseradish....
Season 1 is genius no doubt. But 4 is a masterpiece, there's no disputing that.

@@ogre7737 there's a clip of Avon chewing out Dee in this video

Subtle point that showed Weebay's personality was in his Omar shootout despite being completely surprised he moved TOWARDS Omar in the shootout. E.g. forward. Says a lot about him.
I see a lot of similarities between Weebay, Slim and Omar. All strong "codes" and a good meta awareness of their position in their worlds. Last of a generation I feel before the ruthless wave of Chris/Snoop muscle.
Wow. Good observation bro 👌🏽
Great observation bro, Weebey did the same thing in the second shootout with Omar. Bey heard shots and immediately ran towards the danger zone. It was Bey that made Omar run to New York after he came at the king and missed.

Also where the good dope was coming from
The streets, politicians,Labor workers, police force, newspapers all interesting aspects of the show
Shows the good and the grimy of all aspects of the game. Po's, schools, politics, workforce, dope game, crew life.
A big game of chess.....better yet, Risk💯
Season 2my favorite by far
I love all the seasons, but I think season 4 really illustrates how early the cycle begins that everyone in the show gets trapped in. All these social, political, and economic problems start almost immediately in childhood. Schools are usually the first "institution" we're exposed to, and in most cases in America, it's the first institution to fail us, and set us up for the rest of the cycle the show explores. The school system depicted in the wire is not much different than a prison system. A lot of these kids don't stand a chance right out of the gate...

D'Angelo was not soft he just had a good heart
