I've been a photoshop user for 25 years and I have no idea how I am just learning about this. Thank you!! Love your teaching style.
Most straight forward explanation I've heard. Well done, thanks
You explain so well and the way you show the steps is at the perfect speed..at least for me.. thank you
Thanks Colin. On a landscape photo I was looking for a way to put some text on a quite odd cloud reflecting on lake. It worked beautiful.
Excellent tutorial. I look forward to your PhotoShop insights to learn something new every time!
Exactly what I was looking for, I love the pace of your tutorials.
Seriously the best video I have seen on this topic! Thank you, clear and to the point.
Finally, a simpler way to make displacement mockups. Much appreciated!!!
Never used a map before, many thanks for the tutorial
Great tutorial. I've been doing displacement maps for a long time but this is so much better process.
Thanks Collin
Your channels method makes a lot of sense.
Awesome instructions! Thank you very much for this!
Thank you!
Excellent, nicely explained.
Wow! Thank you for your Photoshop tutorials! I am not an artist and Photoshop can be very cumbersome. You are the best!
Loved this . Thank you
The clearest demos I’ve seen on the subject. Thanks Colin.
Wow, thanks!
By far this instructional video is the easiest to follow and achieve! Thank you so very much!
You're welcome!
Yes, very useful video that gets better displacement maps. I use to do it with a simple black and white version of the image. Using channels (and a touch of blur and contrast) is so much better. I think you may have 'displaced' some of the other tutorials on this topic 😀
lol good pun
Thanx mate! Always enjoyed your Vlogs and always learn from you! 😍Keep smiling Bro! 🙏
Thanks :)
simple and easy to understand
Thanks Colin, using displacement maps has always been confusing to me and I didn't get very good results. I think this will help me a lot!
Glad to help
,,,just what I needed for a current project! ,,,easier than I thought. Thanx Collin.
Glad I can be of help

I used Displacement before, but you explain it so easy and clear. Great! Thanks. :)
Glad this is useful
شكرا ❤
thank you very much!
Awesome, thank you so much!
Thanks ❤
Thank you for this tutorial. I knew about displacement maps but didn't know about the channel method for creating them.
It saves a lot of steps
Thank you so much,,,,❤❤❤for all
Thanks
I had to convert the Duplicate Channel to 8bit, even thought I was working on a 16bit image. Worked well!
Wow great 👌
Great, Colin!
Thank you for being so articulate! Even about how you say "this time we will use Levels" shows that you are addressing the fact that you have earlier used Curves.
Could you make a displacement map example with a face example? For example, showing a face in a tree bark or in sand or something?
Hi Collin, just ordered a new like button! Thx for this video! 👍
Thank you very much Sir.
GREAT VIDEO
Great lesson! many thanx! 🏆

Never knew this before, been using since PS5.0. Thanks!
I was able to follow your video all the way through and it works. The only issue I have is, the blend modes that work changes the color of the logo. Is there a way to keep the same color I started with? Multiply, color dodge, overlay, soft light, hard light and a few others work but they all change the color of the original logo. Multiply seems to show the best wrinkles under the logo, but it completely, as do the other blend modes I previously mentioned, changes the color. The shirt is black and the logo is a sky blue color. Thanks for all your videos you do share with the world. You are a blessing.
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Well done. You may the explanation crisp and easily reproducible.
wonderful video👌👌👌👌
Nice
Great tutorial ....I use GIMP, not Photoshop, but the concepts you showed are the same.....Thank You
I hope you're having a wonderful day you f*cking legend!
From PHILIPPINES
Whoa..Very well and easy.Thank You sir! P/S: new follower of yours 🥰
P/S: The hard part is when i try to adjust the image for displacement,Any tips for that? And how do i detect the 'most contrast' on every layer cuz it looks the same.
I had to return to remind myself........ great video, thanks.
I can't seem to find the source of the displacement map I used in Photoshop. Is there a way to find the source so I can adjust it? I used displacement in a file little over a year ago. Now I want to change the displacement map, but I can t find the source. Thanks!
Question, is it better with more contrast on the shirt, middle contrast or a small amount of contrast?
The more the better
Nice presentation but I'm wondering why text layer is needed to be converted into smart object. Without converted into smart object wouldn't it work?
It won't warp if its not converted
Super, but in photoshop 2024 I can't find this filter, that is, I find it but there is no possibility to upload the map. can you help me? Thank you very much in advance
هل يمكن ان افعل هدا ،عند صناعة patern الخاص بي . ؟
Hi Collin,
you should mention that the displacement map needs to be saved as a psd file.
You just did, and you’re right
Thats easy and useful. Thank You. But I think you forgot to blur the second image - just sayin'....😆
I added a 1 pixel blur and the larger displacement number used the same map as the 10px one
Really straightforward, just wish PS would let me click duplicate channel...absolutely hate the cloud program.
rusty the text layer?? 😁
Or Rusty the snowman
As a New Zealander this accent is so bizarre some bits are like Colins from Upper Hutt, Wellington then others its like he is from San Diego 😂
lol, thats what happens when you spend 1/2 your life in NZ and the other 1/2 in California
firster
Nice. Learned - once again 🙂
Didn't we do this about 6 yrs ago with a young girl in front of an old car?
I don't remember that
