  • Hi there my lovelies! I have been wanting to get this project going for so long and I'm finally getting there! I spent hours on Pinterest trying to find inspiration for a diy craft table and I finally found one! I spent a little bit under $125, which was more than I wanted to spend, but it was the easiest and fastest way for me to get it going.
    My brother in law works at a mill and he was able to get me a 4x8x1 sheet of maple plywood. He told me these go for about $100, but I paid $10! He was able to get it for $7, but I didn't have smaller bills haha so I told him to keep the change for his troubles lol. My coworker was able to help me cut it down to the dimensions I needed and I had enough left over for 4 shelves! Not a bad deal at all.
    The cube storage units were $33 and change at walmart and the self adhesive faux marble tiles were $0.88 per sq ft at Home Depot.
    Thank you guys so much for watching! If you haven't already, don't forget to subscribe and hit that notification bell so you don't miss any future projects!

    THERE IS A FINAL REVEAL OF THIS CRAFT SPACE IN A SECOND VIDEO HERE:
    It will answer all your questions and thoughts of how it wouldn't be functional for some people. Plain and simple because it's not in your house lol, but most importantly it shows why it is PERFECT for my space. Whether I have to crawl, duck, bend, reach, contort or whatever to get to the cubbies in the back :) :)

    I used the same idea, except with my 4 little ones all now in school I couldn't afford the shelving units, so I just looked online at various places (ie Craigslist, online free garage sales, etc.) and got milk crates, spray painted them white, and drilled them together to make shelves, and shelf liner on the back side of them to make it look more professional. And same as you, a large piece of wooden board to for as desk top. sanded and also painted white and I had six crates left over so I screwed them to my wall as crate shelves after spray painting them metallic gold, my craft room colors are white and gold, so it looks wonderful. My husband loves it for storing his extra things that need to be away from the kids reach, my kids love it for school work, and i love that it's one room for my while family to use and safe for my children. And it's all because of you and this AMAZING idea, thank you so much. Your newest subscriber, Christa

      Thanks so much for the love Christa! That was an awesome idea to use milk crates and I bet it turned out great! I'm really happy that you found a way to make it your own. I think some people are missing that concept....you can be inspired by it and do it to what fits your needs. You're a sweetheart, thank you for the support : )

    Ms. Araceli,
    Once again you've blown my mind 👍 (I'm am not some crazy RUclips stalker promise) ever since I found your channel I am obsessed with you and your amazing ideas. As a single mother of 3 boys I'm on a budget and need cool ideas for #1 extra space and #2 an outlet for me to "try" to be crafty. I think your so down to earth and you explain things so the not so crafty (me) person can feel as though it do-able. I once again give you props for being AWESOME. And I am super stoked I found your channel. You rock momma.

    You can put a floor lamp in that corner then you'll have a light over your craft area that's not taking up the space on top of the craft table

    • @AraceliChanDIY
      @AraceliChanDIY  7 лет назад +4

      Melissa Dingee that's a great idea... the only thing is that if I do that, the top would have to be pulled out. As of right now that corner has to be covered to fit in that space

    • @caseyelkins172
      @caseyelkins172 7 лет назад +2

      IKEA sells cords that can be plugged in then hung from the ceiling to make a hanging lamp. You buy the pieces separately so it can be customized with whatever lamp shade you want from there. Tip: be sure to check that the cord has the built in on/off switch. IKEA sells with and without. They come in black or in white and the kit comes with the hooks to screw into the ceiling. I have matching ones over my nightstands that look good and do not take up tabletop space.

      Thank you! No, I haven’t... there are shelves on the back wall and I always have stuff on the table. It would be more work to remove everything from the table top to lift it, than to just go underneath and grab what I need.

  • @essemsween818
    @essemsween818 7 лет назад

    Your table is a great use of a small room & storage creation. Great for cutting out fabric (except for curtains which are a nightmare to cut) One way to deal with the edge and really finish the top off, would be to cut 1" strips out of an extra one of your vinyl tiles (You only need 7 strips) and stick them down. It would make your top look like a real piece of marble, & has the added advantage of making sure you NEVER get a stray splinter snagging on your fabric or your clothes after it's been bashed a few times. My only question is can you use a Rotary Cutter on the surface or will you still need a Cutting Mat?

    If it is too expencive I recommend to bye used wood pallet covering sheets from pressed wood size aprox 1000x1200mm for about 1-2 euro in Ireland you can find so probably same in $ in US etc. (In fabric, store you can ask or www)
    And make all your crafting room, channel office etc. for 20-40$ and cover walls as well and make your own design.

    I love the marble tile, but never would have thought to use tile on the wood. Great decision as it should clean good too. You will have lots of cubbies to put your stuff in, but be ware you will be on the floor getting to those in the back. It's hard to figure out a better way than you have now except maybe some people made comments about pulling it away from the wall so you can walk around it to get to your cubbies easier. This is what happened to me and getting on the floor constantly was a bear. Craft your heart out.

    My thought was to have the middle bookcase much closer for accessing your shelved items. The top should be fine resting on the middle and rear bookcases, allowing you sufficient room for whatever chair you choose for the space. If you don't follow what I'm saying, I would be happy to send you a rough sketch.

    Great project but it would be even better if you added a light underneath so that you can easily see the items you have stored under there, plus it adds a nice decorative touch for only $3 or $4 more. You could also add a topper that runs along the two sides that touch the walls for a lot of additional storage using dollar tree candle holders as risers with a board that is 1 to 2' wide. Personally, I would also add my self-healing cutting mat centered along the inner edge of the table where I would be working on most projects.

    Hey I know you got this along time ago but if you didn’t want to have that wasted space in the corner if you cleaned out that room you could actually put that in the middle of the rooms you could walk all the way around it or only use the shelving that’s on the side to make sure they’re screwed and really good so the top is it moved and then take the third one and put it on top and you can have decorative storage and show projects u did or be able to get to The storage a little bit easier or if you wanted to have it as decorative storage you could put it on top of the table on the inside just a thought and you can access all your cells and have Everything flush against the wall But that’s if you didn’t put it in the middle of your room

    If you would make a,cut of the wood at the edge of the back cibes, then put hinges there to attach the larger piece to it, you would be able to lift it up to get into the cubes much easier. I would make some sort of latch on the wall to hold it up.

    Honestly i am living for your sarcastic comments 😂 But on a real note, i was thinking about doing something really similar but possibly 3×6 instead of 3×5, and was wondering if youve had any trouble with the top sagging at all? I plan on using half the top for a cutting area and the other half for ironing so ill probably be putting a moderate amout of weight on it when im cutting fabric, but obviously not 50+ lbs.

    Put the table in the center of the wall and have two of the units facing out that way you don't have the wasted space in the corner. Just a thought.

    The empty corner would be a great space for a floor lamp?

      Hahah Yep I noticed! A hole the size of the lamp pole could easily be drilled and given a plastic round desk hole sleeve thingie to keep it looking nice? Just suggestions obviously ~ we crafter need alllll the light! 😁

    Woo girl! You seem to have a magnet for rude people! Some of the suggestions, I can see were just people trying to be helpful, but others are just downright rude! Anyway, I love what you've done with the space. I'd love to do something similar, but one of the drawbacks to living in England is that anything storage-wise is outrageously expensive. Affordable storage is just one of the things I miss about America.

      Yea some people like to hide behind a screen and are rude. Thats too bad! I don’t know what I’d do without being able to do things on a budget!

      Thanks girl! I though about that too, but I really wanted to maximize every square inch I could possibly use lol. I am putting shelves on that wall. I have several different things that I'm working with, so I am excited to share the end result.

    You have your cubes on their sides. The long shelf pieces need to be running horizontally because they take the weight of the items in each cube. Otherwise all the weight is on the little dowel pieces which will break. It all looks great by the way. :)

    I love the project but for us that have arthritis makes it harder. To get to the stuff way in the back. I would cut in on the inside, to the first cube of the one facing outside. That would be perfect

    I’m not sure if I missed it, but did you connect the storage cubes to the board, or is the board just sitting on top?

  • @marcyc.3311
    @marcyc.3311 5 лет назад

    Actually the shelving that's hidden in the middle should be used in another place in the room.. The reason is every time you need something you have to go under on your hands n knees to get it. I think on another part of the room with the other shelves would give you more space and less cluttered.
