  • Before using a product, I like to know that it is durable and able to withstand daily exposure until it can be covered.. In this video, I'll run through just how I built this little shed, but it gets better.. We're going to STRESS TEST ZIP System Sheathing and Tape to make sure it's good enough to use on projects.

    Screws in windows all day. You’ll never hit the window, and if there is ever an issue with moving the window you pull it out and make that change. No need for a nail bar and risking damaging the flange. We were given these as an option on site a few years back, and they just work so well.

      You can just set set a nail and if it still needs adjustment just pull it off. For the hammer use a 16oz hammer personally I have a m4 Martinez with the ti4 titanium head hell of a hammer for window door installs.

    We use 1-5/8 GRK pan heads and we are required to screw the tops here in north west Florida. Every other hole. No more than 8” out of the corners and off center.
    Also our doors are screwed with 3-1/8 GRKs wood screws and we are required to use 14 minimum per sing door. 6 per side and 2 at the top, no more than 8” out of the corner.

    Use screws as well for windows (& even on doors). There are some times we do fasten the top flange to the header, but usually the process we do is same as what saw here (as always, some times, gotta change up and roll with it; especially on remodels).

    As a professional window and door installation company, we only use pan head screws.
    Side note, don’t drive the screw in too tight. Climate expansion and contractions can cause the vinyl to break.
    We barely touch the screw head to the fin.

    Man, ive seen hammers and screw tips go thru new windows during installation. Nails have shear strength, screws have tensile...but glass would prob break before nails got pulled out anyway. Screws are still easier to install but more importantly to remove, because yes everyone one knows will surely someday die and somebody with a 'bag of hammers' will eventually have to come along and be given the choice to salvage or demolish. And when that time comes, might i suggest leaving time-capsuled notes within the framing studs along with your measurement notes and cut lines --inspired by things ive come across in older houses. To leave a business card wrapped around a copper waterline thru each cutout so the pipes never squeaked, to me, was genius.

    Looks like new guns (not hitachi) you trying out? I use the paslode framemaster 100. Our headers dont sag as we use a KD hardwood much bigger than yours typically 170mm x 45mm. When we order our windows they come with a reveal (window jamb) attached and we nail through those into window frame. We dont use zip system here yet. Dryer climate 🇦🇺 we frame similarly to your guys only 3 x 11/2 framing

    Matt, are there advantages to constructing a rake wall versus a typical horizontal top plate wall and 'angled criplle stud' section above it to achieve the same area of framing for the structure?

    • @koredesign8045
      @koredesign8045 3 года назад +1

      Fior this apoplication it would probably be fine to do it that way. But in residential construction that would create a hinge point, which is not allowed per CA building code (due to wind loading.) Should be framed continuous, regardless of shear play connecting the two pieces. Balloon frame rakes and gables, no hinge point.
