My husband reminded me this morning that we started building our house 2 years ago. We moved in a little over a year ago. Yes it took a good year to build before we could move in. We built it with our own hands, every board and nail. The only worker we hired was the electrician. I give thanks to this channel and a couple of others for the advice, skills, and techniques they share. After moving in, we added 2 porches, and a guest room. We have a wonderful PAID FOR house now that we will enjoy for the rest of our lives.
This is the video I've looked everywhere for! I'm a single mom trying to enclose a garage by myself. Your video answered every question I have. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to do such a great video. Thank you!
I'm a general contractor in Champaign, Illinois, USA and have been watching your videos for awhile now. I just wanted to say thank you for all the awesome lessons. I really like your teaching style. Til next time :)

Shannon, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate these instructional videos. As a guy who didn't work in construction at any time in my life, your explanations are clear and very informative. Thank you for taking the time to share your extensive knowledge with us.
No fancy musing or intros or special effects here, just good old framing information and know how......... Great videos, big fan of all your creations. Thank you for all the education.
Hey I am building a house in the spring, Nova Scotia, I am so happy to find your videos, Awesome. You are going to make me look good, ha. I will tell my friends your the man, thanks Shannon

I wanted to say thank you for you videos. I’m an instructor for a training program in Multi Family Housing. I have the students watch som of your videos after our lecture time and before we do hands on in the lab. This has been a help. Thank you again. Chuck Ketchum.
Love your videos; always learn something new from watching them. A can read the info 10x, and maybe I'll remember it. I watch your videos & not only do I remember it, I remember the logic/reasoning behind it because of your videos & explanations. Thanks for posting!
Excellent, detailed, clear, concise video. I needed to tear down a wall and build a replacement, and this video game me all the detailed instructions I needed to do it properly. Thank you!
I am listening in from Papua New Guinea. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with us. Very helpful information. So simple and easy to follow.
I'm getting ready to frame up some interior walls in my basement. These videos are among the best resources on youtube for learning how to frame. Thank you.
last night after watching the framing one, i built a basement wall in 45 minutes and it worked perfectly. Today, I watched this one and am about to build the doorway on another wall i built. You make this easy. I bougt a book from local DIY store and have sat on this project for months. Your video got me off the couch and motivated.
Hope you are having a perfect summer of 2023 and it's been a superb delight being subbed all of these years ... I see the vids ... and super excited for you to reach that 1 Million mark subs. Cheers Shannon and thanks again for all the education and great vids.
Love the vids. Informative with no stupid intro fluff and stories about your life and yapping about everything except what the video title says we’re clicking on. Thank you ....this is how “how to” videos are supposed to be done.
Thank-you SO much for your excellent, clear directions & descriptions. Perfect balance between telling us what to do, how to do it, and why you need to do it! I LOVE this channel. My go-to for renovations all-around. Thank-you!
Your videos are perfection. From Arizona USA, thanks so much for the concise and articulate teaching! And thanks to whomever is editing and filming - they are doing it right.
It would be nice to do framing examples for refurbish work also. Refurbish brings lots of extra challenges like having to toe nail, demolition all of which is harder to deal with as opposed to new build. Enjoy your work.
I liked how you explained it. I could understand and you mentioned the fasteners also which is good. You never know how many you are supposed to put in.
great video. I really like your laid-back teaching style but you TOTALLY lost me when you started talking about the window. for future reference, it would have really helped if you had an actual window in front of you so you could show us what/where a jamb is and how to measure it. as it is, I had to stop the video and open another tab so I could google window parts before I could continue this video.
Yes that would help me as well as I've purchased reclaimed windows. They have an overhang in it's metal framing. But I'm hoping he has a focused window video too!! Shannon is such an excellent teacher!!
Kevin Turnyanszki yep, which you learned as well. Just like every single other person. Are you one of those premaddona, negative all the time guys in the job site?
Great job Shannon. Thank you so much for the video, and for keeping it online all these years. It was a big help on my current shop project. The video was very well done, and much appreciated.
Shannon, I don’t know what your background is, but your clear and precise presentations beat the heck out of most professional corporate communicators. I enjoy watching your videos and have learned a lot. Your work is an invaluable resource for DIYs and, I would not be surprised, quite a few tradesmen.
There is only a few builders i will watch and learn, and Shannon is thee top one i will watch, thanks a lot for all the great information, and very well explained, keep it up, and thanks again.
Im a contractor and always watch your videos first when I have questions. I can't tell you how many times you have helped. Always well-paced, thoroughly explained, and very easy to follow. Thanks!
I have watched lots of other videos and yours seem to always address the details that are needed that the others gloss over. Great job, and I will definitely watch yours first as I encounter each stage of my projects. Thanks!
Just wanted to say a big thank you for your wonderful instruction. My father was an incredible carpenter who was trained in England, but unfortunately, he was not as good at explaining his craft. Always wished I had taken more of an interest, but now with your calm and easy going instruction I am understanding so much better. You definitely have my admiration and a new Subscriber.
Thanks Shannon. Because of your videos my husband & I just built and installed a 4x8 garden closet on the end of my garden shed. We used screws to put it basically together then got a low-end framing nailer (which is amazing) and secured everything. It is square and level. I won't say it was easy for us, but it is a very solid structure. Rafters next! Thanks again! Jean & Ken.
Nothing wrong with Shannon's train of thought. And as for his explanations you obviously haven't spoken to many builders. Half of them are incoherent -t mumbling away. This guy is refreashing a builder who can build & be easily understood,
Shannon I watch your videos all the time and I really appreciate you sharing your extensive knowledge. Your tutorial on these videos is great and easy to follow. Kep up the good work, buddy.
First timer, here. I really appreciate your videos. I am going to tackle replacing a rotted door and partially rotted frame to my garage, and install a sill plate. This door rests on brick which is shared by the front and back side of this rotted door. Thanks again.
I cannot thank you enough for this video! I am framing the wall with my first window in it and while I have seen this video multiple times I was completely confusing myself hahahaha...just watched it again....now, out to finish that window and wall section!
Thank you sooo much for posting this videos. I am a single mom and building one of these would be the most reasonable thing I can do. I am pretty sure I can figure it out with your videos. Thank you. I am sure I will need advise along the way ;)

Barbara
Shannon, I can't go try any of your projects! too busy viewing them over and over! Amazing how well you go step by step. Can't imagine a better instruction video! thanks!
Thanks for posting the video, awesome step by step for the novice. Building a treehouse for the kids and this is great to watch as many times as I need too :). Thanks from Tennessee.
VERY, VERY GOOD video. I have seen and built a few garages that the short studs were not used over the windows and doors but used 2 x 10's without problems but it probably all equals but also live in a far different area. Thanks again for the refresher. Bud

Hi Shannon About to start my " Man Shed " shortly . Would like to thank you for your video clips "Build a shed "
It's great that good people like this man are giving us great information for free. Helps alot of us out. Thank you very much.
It would help if diagrams are displayed during explation so I can see them in actual diagrams. Thanks
Very good...simple and TO THE POINT, no rambling....the way it should be.
thanks, some say I do ramble at times?
You need to say something to explain the job!!
It would be nice to do framing examples for refurbish work also. Refurbish brings lots of extra challenges like having to toe nail, demolition all of which is harder to deal with as opposed to new build.
Enjoy your work.
We will consider that.
I liked how you explained it. I could understand and you mentioned the fasteners also which is good. You never know how many you are supposed to put in.
