That said all the service manuals and pinouts I can find talk about 2 at most, Wikipedia says 3 but that may be conflating the mouse pinout, (even though Workbench needed add-ons to use three-button mice). No idea how I never knew about Fightin' Spirit, being an Amiga guy. Sure, it 'borrows' a lot but in 1995 those games were really not easily obtainable like they are now and plus they're done pretty well in this game and it has it's own charm and can feel like the devs working on it were big fans and this feels like a bit of a passion project (for putting that much effort into an Amiga game in 1996 it has to be a passion project cos the market was near death) so I'm fine with it :)

For some weird reasons, while I was waiting for sf6 I started playing Superior Soldier and couldn't put it down. The strategy for meltdown is to let the AI read your input and use that against it: you must run and jump over him, baiting his DP move, then close in and throw (throws are absurdly OP in SS). Also, I checked out the japanese version and A LOT was cut: apart from the usual name change, every character had a pre and post match quote for every other character, and the annuncer said the name of thefighters before the match.

Yup, has the putties jumping into the fray one-on-one, which not only keeps the sprite limit in check but is 100% in character. I also remember that the versus ladder didn't allow "illegal" fights, like Mega Dragonzord can't fight Megazord as they share legs, and a Ranger can't fight Cyclopsis as one is forever 'big' and the other 'small'. On the GG look at the Power Rangers game by Banpresto, it's a fighter instead of a brawler, presumably to allow for bigger sprites by cutting down to just 2 people, and the screen would have hidden light flicker.

When Matt was trying to fight Meltdown, reminded me of when Ryu's the first opponent on the arcade ladder in Alpha 3. Like, I can either reset the game, or I'm just fighting Ryu today 😒😆

I recognize those movements anywhere. Time warriors' Apokles is using blatant copies of Toshinden's Eiji movements. He even uses the Victory pose!

Fightin' Spirit is such a delight. I don't know if it's a rip-off of Fatal Fury, a tribute, or a parody. Possibly all three at once!

Before Tommy made The Room, he wrote character intros for Fightin' Spirit 🤷🏻‍♀️👍

Has Matt ever played Power Quest? It's a surprisingly good Game Boy Color fighter with a weird RPG-esque story mode. Loved it as a kid. Best fighting game for the GBC isn't a contentious title, but this is probably it.

Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple was the first Anime that really hooked me when I was younger since ti was on Netflix. Hooked me so much it became the first manga I ever binged through.
Kenichi learning all of the different martial arts and combining them was such a fun concept!
It's a real shame it never caught on because it's excellent quality. I think the marketing just wasn't there and I heard something about the writer being Chinese, no Japanese, so he got snubbed a lot.

Tbf the manga went on for like 500+ chapters and the anime had 50 episodes plus ova. Unless you're super popular, most series don't get that treatment. Love the series tho, overlooked gem.

I don't see how a sharware title coming after VF3 in 1997 could reasonably hope to look like VF3 considering VF3 was built on visual hardware co-developed by Lockheed-Martin.
