I was planning to buy iPad Air 3 for note taking too. But I don’t get it why she’s trying to show that we should get the pro instead. Please help me. Thanks

Might be usable for word processing and web browsing sure, but any kind of professional work would make it feel sluggish and annoying the more you have to use it
For apple product I think the timing is very important. For example I bought iPad Air 4 after researching the market. I just recently got into med school and I need an iPad for note taking. At that time I was contemplating buying a budget or iPad Air 3. Pro is way above my budget. And I heard there was rumours of iPad Air 4 coming out and the iPad Air 3 was launched 2019. So I choose to wait. And one month after starting med school the iPad Air 4 was launched. Really worth it.
You can also just buy a graphics tablet for like 30$ if you only want an iPad for digital note taking. Way cheaper and fulfills the same function if you use it with an (I expect) existing laptop and notability.
This is going to be different for everybody depending on their needs and budget. For example, as a law student and amateur artist, the iPad 6th gen was perfect for me for taking notes, reading, and making amateur digital art. Also, after my laptop stoped working, the iPad was good enough to replace it temporally. Here on my country the difference on the price with the iPad Pro is big ($400 approximately), so the 6th gen regular iPad ended being a really good option for me.
Yeah I got the 8th gen and it’s absolutely wonderful, I draw and take notes with it! The only consideration me buying pro probably because of ram, since procreate the apps I used for drawing determine the number of layers base on the size of ram. But I think it’s not worth it by price point just for that only reason because at traditional art you basically only have one layer. So base model is enough to do everything I need.
Why wasn't a graphics tablet not good enough for note taking and amateur art? It fulfills the same function and is way cheaper. You can get a cheap one for like 30 bucks.
One really good thing about ur macbook air 2017 is that it doesnt have a butterfly keyboard. Sure, the 2018 looks nice, but the 2017 has the better keyboard that doesnt break with dust. That wasnt a bad purchase at all.
@@r3nny917 idk, an older macbook pro like a 2012 one would be in the same price range and is a better investment ... better and bigger screen, FAR better upgradability, more durable, thinner and better-looking bezels, the list goes on
I was also attracted by a budget iPad when Apple began to make them support Apple Pencils, but I soon regretted buying it since its terrible "Stereo speakers". Then I immediately sold it to a second-handed vendor and bought an used 10.5" iPad Pro, which really satisfies me. Huawei is becoming more and more similar to Apple in regards to closure property. It's easy to transfer data and photos between devices only if you use BOTH Huawei phones and Huawei laptops.
OMG as a Chinese I absolutely feel your pain when you started talking about your Huawei phone, I bought my first Huawei phone last year and I was like okay I think I can manage to make Google work, now all I am thinking is "Never again"
I have a Huawei Mate 20 and P40 Pro, on both of them all Google apps including Assistant work just fine, you just need a little initial set up. Also, you can transfer files to a PC without HiSuite through File Transfer Protocol just like from any USB drive, she just doesn't know how to set it up. It's a 3 clicks process.
I’ve owned my MacBook since 2012. The only thing I had to do since is upgrade the ram and hard drive. 2012 was the last model you could upgrade yourself before they started to solder the components to the motherboard. It’s still a solid unit. I have to carry my charger everywhere with me now but it was certainly worth the $1100 spent for me.
regarding the ipad and macbook pro purchase, i think it was just that your needs changed or you did not actually think/researched it through very well. no regrets there even if you can say that the macbook pro could have been avoided because you made that choice by thinking "oh, i will just bootcamp in windows", the ipad was a good choice. Especially if you never had an iPad before or did not even know how it would work out. even if you had no sister you could just sell it in a quite good price.
Its her personal preference ffs. Stop letting everyone know that you are a biased Apple fanboy. What she does with her money is her business and her idea of a buy that is not worth it is different. I would not even think of an Apple product and productivity in the same sentence even if I am using one right now.

@@John7No Even if I am using Apple products right now? Are you sure when you made that assumption, Mr.Leaflock 7? I am going to make the switch soon because Apple products and my workflow really do not match and Samsung has more features for me. I tried Apple, and there is no question about the “smoothness”. However, I do not think these things are being leveraged well enough to make it a more productivity based ecosystem than the Samsung and Windows ecosystem that I had before. And I still use my 2017 macbook air.... Like literally... And I still like it 👍 Edit: using it for university work, lite video editing, some music production, does the work for me..
I have a 2015 macbook air and I still love it. As a graphic design student I use a lot of adobe apps and it works fine! I’ll upgrade once I graduate because I’ll need something newer and better but for university it’s been more than enough 😄
I bought the first generation Macbook Air, it gets overheated very quickly, it's very slow to begin with, and the fan get messed up by dust and stuff in just a year or two, so the machine just keep throttling, and then shutdown... I didn't get another Macbook Air until M1, which totally solved all the issues I had with the original Macbook Air.
I think its tough to buy tech these days with so many variables its hard to know what is right for your own needs! I try to make honest reviews on products to help out but it alot of info!!!
I bought the MacBook Air 2017 in early 2019 I think and I love this Laptop. It runs so fast and the battery last ages still to this day. Different people have different preferences. What might not work for you will work for others well. I think I could use the MacBook Air for another 5 years and it would be totally fine
I still have and use mine daily! It runs just as fast as when I first bought it, or at least, I haven't noticed it getting "old." I really love this Macbook, it's been supe reliable, so reliable that I have no intention of purchasing a new Macbook for at least another two years. Editing to add I bought mine in early 2018
Same. You also still have normal USB slots 😂I thought about buying a new one once but then I realized I'd need adapters and stuff. Also I just "upgraded" my macbook for digital note taking by buying a cheap graphics tablet. Works perfectly with notability. I have no need for an iPad.
I think it’s also important to note that the budget IPad has improved significantly since then. I use that 8th gen iPad (the budget one) for college, RUclips, digital note taking, recording music etc. And it is absolutely up to the task. Ive written a 16,000 word assignment (it was unbelievably long lol) on this iPad using word and it was absolutely perfect. I use a Logitech keyboard with a track pad and the 1st gen Apple Pencil. As a student i think it was a really wise purchase. So for students that are thinking of using a budget iPad for college or high school its a really great buy nowadays! Just make sure you get a high quality keyboard and you’re set!
And if you have an old (or not old) macbook you can simply skip the iPad and buy a graphics tablet for digital note taking. Its cheap and fulfills the same function. You can also easily switch between typing and handwriting if needed.
Same here lol, I've never used an apple product, i'm getting an iPhone this week to try the platform but i'm kinda terrified of this change, but i'm kind of a tech enthusiast and now what to purchase so i don't end up with terrible low range cheap tech products and never have had a bad experience with windows laptops and android phones.
I got the late 2015 MBA (base model) in 2016 and it worked til 2019. It was still a powerful laptop for me even if I did a heavy workload like video editing and projects for school. I had to switch to a 2019 MPB (base w/ touchbar) and to this day, I'm still using it. I honestly don't regret my 2015 MBA because that was my first ever Apple laptop and I think it was still a luxury to even have one. Some of my friends even still have the 11" MBA from wayyyy back. I also have the 7th generation iPad (10.2" w/ Apple pencil). I bought it in late 2020 for school, and I think it was worth it cause I get to take notes on it. I guess a lot of people nowadays really go towards the "new and improved" Apple products (especially the Apple fans out there) and I understand that. But if you're someone who is on a budget and you feel discouraged because you think you have the least powerful tech, then you're not alone. Just realize that not everyone is lucky enough to have access to these gadgets and just having the "base" model can already be used in so many ways. I guess part of it also goes with your lifestyle and how you take care of your batteries.
My sister has a 2017 MacBook Air and it’s just so cool. She’s talked about wanting to upgrade but I don’t know why. I love the slim look of her laptop, it’s so thin and light. Plus the light up screen is a cool feature. Along with all the ports that don’t come with the modern laptops, like usb. The only downside I can think of would be that since the laptop is really thin, it got slightly dented in the corner somehow, but other than that it seems cool.
Every time a girl asks me for which laptop, and I'll be like, the mac isn't worth the money, but they're just like "Really?..... Really?......Hmmm...". I always tell them, get a decent windows laptop, use the money for an iPad
I disagree. I used to get Dell computers in the $500 range and they’d last 2, maybe 3 years. Invested $1500 in a MacBook Pro and it’s lasted me almost 6 so far with minimal issues and isn’t slow. I feel like comparable windows computers are $1000+ too anyway. I get $1500 is a lot for a laptop for something like school but now that the M1 MacBook airs are out I think those are a really good option for people who want a MacBook but not one that’s (too) expensive.
To be honest, if you live in the US, buying a Huawei product is always gonna be a bad idea unless you're 100% sure that it's the exact phone you want and you're okay with all the drawbacks that go with it
I love that version of MacBook Air with the SD card slot and and the non butterfly keyboard. I wish Apple would bring this version back. I bought it in 2013 and it lasted up for me until last year.
my worst tech purchase (and my most expensive mistake to date) is buying macbook air 2019. i regret buying this crap with all of my heart. it is really a $1000 "intel celeron" laptop. it was exciting at first, but less than a year later i wish i didnt buy it at all. at $1000 price tag i expected it would be able to do other than web browsing and opening documents. it was my utter stupidity to buy a mac and learned my lesson; with $1000 i shouldve bought a proper windows laptop instead. nope, not interested with m-series macs!
Dude I was the creator of digital note taking. Back in 3rd grade so about 2013 I brought my iPad to school and asked all my teachers if I can use it to take notes and they all thought it was a cool idea. And I did for the rest of the year and got like a 3.8 gpa for that year. So I’m a innovator.
Yeah the Solos aren’t that good. But the Studios, the best decision I’ve made honestly. I could wear it for hours and it’s noise cancelling as well. The bass is beautiful.
The iPad 2 (2011). Today the iPad Pro is my most precious piece of tech. I use the pencil to work, to study, everything… but back then, we had nothing.
Still using My Macbook Air 2017 It’s so iconic with its glowing logo Also, I only need laptop for watching movies and working with Office software So this is perfect laptop for me
@muhammad rais kaa nope. Mac is not good for gaming. You also cannot play a lot of games on it. Mac is good for students (esp students notetaking) and portability (power lasting
@muhammad rais kaa actually I was used MacBook Pro 2017 but it okay gaming but get easily hotter fan, so I recommend other good laptop gaming or laptop
I'm having an 6th gen ipad. Its price/performance makes me impressed when it's first released. The problem maybe just the terrible screen and low storage capacity
I think the one tech purchase I regret a lot is my headphones, I bought the taotronics sound liberty 79 and they are huge, I have normal to small ears and they hurt so much and get out of my ears pretty easily without me moving so it's a pain to use them, the sound quality is good and the battery life is amazing (its 8hrs for the headphones with a total of 40hrs with the case, it's bonkers) I charge them like once a week hahaha they also switch randomly from stereo to mono all the time and it bothers me so much, if those things weren't an issue they would be the perfect headphones.
I've made zero bad purchases. I grew up broke. Before I buy anything, I always ask myself. "If I buy this will I use It every single day?". I bought a MacBook Pro 2009, used for 9 years. MacBook Pro 2018, now 3 years in. Made some other expensive purchases, but I don't thin k anyone cares lol. Still I have to answer that question before I buy anything tech related.
The new M1 apple Macbook Air is really nice, it runs cooler, no fans so it's quiet, and it's killing all of the other laptops in its class. For a Macbook Air with 16 GB of Ram its like 1199 or 1099 if you're a student, so pretty good if you ask me
Impulse buying Apple products is a good way to go into serious debt. The M1 Air seems like a reasonably priced winner though. May be my first "brand new" macbook purchase ever. I'll never get the usage/productivity vs. price value of an iPad Pro though.
@@garybeltrand5802 For me, the iPad is the only option. Im an engineering student, and we do a lot of hand writing which is impossible on the MacBook. The high price tag is so much worth it when I compare the huge mountains of folders, papers and books from students who do the writing on paper with my 6mm thin iPad pro. It really is , at least for me, the very best option. For serious things like cad I have a desktop windows pc :)
We've all been there...Thank you for being honest about your bad tech purchases, it's refreshing to see someone talk about mistakes like this so openly!
Wow, Can you imagine I did my CS degree with the mac book air 13-inch 2015 version, one crazy thing I remember is it takes me about a half-hour to load a web project, by the time it opened it, the lab almost finish 😭
As a P30 owner, actually I transfer my files without using Hisuite. It is not compulsory to transfer that way. File transfer directly to and from my pc. 😂
For me, my worst tech purchase was the engraved AirPods Pro. I’ve decided I wanna switch to Samsung and you can’t get all the features of AirPods on Samsung. Don’t get me wrong, amazing product on Apple devices though. Selling those things is going to be impossible because of the engraving.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Was Released On August 23th 2019 And Quickly Became To The Best Smartphone Ever Created With Minimum Compromises I Have Two Galaxy Note 10+ 5G with 512gb And 12gb Ram With No Regrets
Thank you, Ella, for taking the time to make and post this most unusual video bout bad purchases and boy did I have my share. Nice to know I'm not alone. 😉
I had the same experience with my iPad (I was trying to digital note take back in 2013 with those shitty third party styluses!!! 😂) Funny how 4/5 of the devices are Apple Products Nice fire in the background lolol
I bought Huawei p30 before google was banned from Huawei, I think its a REALLY good phone, for clear and beautiful photos/camera. I would say the only bad things now is Huawei have no more Google in newer phones. If not, it's a very high quality and cheap/budget phone.
Me watching this review on the MacBook Air she hates and I love! But then I only use it to surf the net so I could've gotten a chromebook but I am happy with my choice. And I used the same ipad to take notes in college and worked for me too. So great to have choices. To each their own :)
The digital notetaking by hand can be done with a drawing tablet, stylus and a cheepo windows laptop all of which can be bought for less than an iPad. (You don’t need a MacBook + iPad Pro+ Apple Pencil + Goodnotes 5 or Notability) 5:40 if anyone else has caught the “hype” around digital notetaking, productivity and study tube. Do more research before buying anything. I think Marianna has done a video on consumerism around study tube.
got my macbook last year on christmas and after awhile it started being really slow. (i didn’t use the laptop as much, mostly for school purposes). and it broke last month out of nowhere. i went to the apple store and they said it was completely damaged inside and the repair would cost as much as a new macbook would. so i went to multiple places that fix electronics and all of them said they couldn’t fix it. so instead i just bought a new macbook since i’m starting school in a couple weeks and i need a laptop, it’s arriving tomorrow. i’m really hoping it doesn’t break like the old one since i won’t be able to afford a new one again.. the macbook that i bought was on sale and also includes free airpods for the student discount. so we’ll see
That must've been so frustrating for you! Ive had my macbook air for almost 5 years now, the same model she mentioned, and it's still going strong. You must've gotten a bad one sucks that apple is such a money leech
I had the same experience with Beats. They just look nice but they are overpriced, uncomfortable and not that good compared to a similarly price Bose that I have.
I don't hang on to old electronics. As soon as I buy a replacement I sell the old one on eBay right away. The longer you let it sit around your chance of getting any return diminishes.
I have the MacBook Air 2017 and I hate it so much- it’s so slow now, I’m constantly running out of storage because I have the 128gb one and I have a hard time with the screen and I have to look at it in a certain angle- I saw my cousins new MacBook Air and I litterly was like- I need a new fucking MacBook 😭 (I bought it on Black Friday 2018 when the new air was out but the new air was $1300 and the air was $799)
Yeah I used to have that one and had the same issues. The new macbook air is about $999 now I believe. Also you could just sell it and get an older but faster macbook pro. I sold my macbook air and bought a 500gb 2015 macbook pro for about $785 and it's way more efficient and fast.
lol I have the same one, I do lots of moderately heavy coding work on it and its really good. if you shut it down once a day and have an external hdd, there is no issue at all.
This is the first video that I've watched on your youtube. And I see how you grew well on your channel. I am happy for you. Manifesting 100K for your channel in 2022. I hope you have a great day, Ella.
@@bekdev564 Yes I like it. A big update for me who had only used mid 2012 MacBook Pro. It's pretty fast for 8GB. However, it once shut down by itself, then turn back on by itself, which is weird but no harms done.
I think I have similar one to and my screen started to mess up and once the backlighting went out I didn’t get it fixed right away. I plan on getting it fixed in a couple weeks because I really want to keep it because of the CD drive. I don’t want to change unless I absolutely have to.
The reason you don't have google apps on the P30 is because you got it from china Otherwise if you got the global version it would be much better But now even globally their phones don't support google so I can't blame you
Honestly i bought the 2017 macbook air in 2021 and my laptop is so fast and it does everything smoothly for my needs. I’m a college student and I do internships too so I think it’s absolutely worth it even now. For notetaking, I use the ipad air 3. That’s fantastic too!
The FIVE worst tech purchases I've made so far in my life. 1. Buying anything made by HP 2. Buying anything made by HP 3.Buying anything made by HP 4. Buying anything made by HP 5.Buying anything made by HP HP manufactures the most COUNTERINTUITIVE products imaginable.
If you ever have issues with high clamping force headphones, vertically place some textbooks (slightly wider than your head) between the ear cups. Leave it overnight and it’ll make a huge difference. You don’t wanna go too wide where you’ll snap the headphones or make the fit too loose.
Bar the screen your MacBook Air was a better buy in every way! You can even upgrade the SSD easy. All MacBook after that had issues with keyboard and thermals.
One thing I have discovered after buying several Bluetooth speakers, headphones and earbuds - Beats is overpriced garbage. You pay way too much for receiving some of the worst mass-produced crap which has poor sound quality, and besides, Beats are made with inferior materials which usually break soon after purchase. If you are looking for a new laptop, what about considering a Windows laptop? I used Macs for a decade and purchased a Windows laptop in late 2020, right at the time Apple released the M1 Macbook Pro/Air laptops (and I definitely had specs in mind as to what I wanted with a new laptop). The reality with Apple is they had been so focused on their iPhones for several years, Apple not only neglected their Macbook Air/Pro line, they also produced these Macbook devices which for several years had poor reliability and too many problems/issues. I think in late 2020, the M1 Macbook Air/Pro releases are a turn in the right direction, but for some customers it was too little and too late.
This is definitely personal preference because I have an m1 MacBook Air, the beats solo 3 and the 7th generation iPad and I love them all! As a student I think they all really work well together for digital note taking and my university work. I do agree that the beats do get sore after a while of wearing them but I disagree with the sound quality as I think it’s really good for the price (I got it on sale).
I’m so happy i found this channel, we share some common sentiments about apple products. I have the same beats as your and i couldn’t agree more, i use it for longer review periods, but thirty minutes in, it hurts my ears specially i wear glasses. huhuhu. also, macbooks are very powerful but as a creator, it’s also very limiting compared to windows laptops!
I just feel like you always want to save money, so you wait till the product got out for some time. And end up a new one comes in a short period of time. I have one piece of advice for you when you buy Apple products, buy things after their press conference at the end of the year.
I think regrets are only valid if you didn't think about it like your first two purchases. Once you have made an educated decision, there is still room for mistakes simply because you can't predict the future. It's not something you have control over hence it's not worth regretting. Remember you can only say you regret buying your iPad in hindsight, you don't know what other possibilities you could have walked down. Such as not liking digital note taking because for example the eyestrain was too much for you to bear.
macs and macbooks are for casual users or people who only care about resolution. The internal specs (graphics cards, ssd, and core) inside of the macs are not future proof, you are basically paying for the name and retina screen. Most people have no idea about internal specs and think it must be a quality product b/c of the insane price. I got an $800 dollar power spec computer from Micro center for $800 plus a $200 msi curved monitor and it works insanely better than my macbooks .. I can also upgrade any of my internal specs pretty easily if I would want to. I installed new rgb 3600 mhz ram ... I think also the ram in macs suck and they def dont have liquid cooling or anything so they also heat up so easily. My advice as a professional illustrator to anyone reading this is buy an ipad not an Imac or macbook and for your computer get a powerspec computer and then upgrade as necessary or just get the best one possible (still way cheaper than buying individual parts) if you can afford it. Also airpods are also a scam, it makes me so sad to see people waste their hard earned money on these products that are not future proof so I hope this helps.
Happy Hearth’s Warming! I agree with you that some of these products aren’t bad products really but rather they weren’t wise purchase decisions for your life. My sister has made that mistake, too. Fortunately for me, I haven’t yet but it’s bound to happen because that’s life 🤣. I’m really sad about the iPad, did you try it at the Apple Store before buying it to see how note taking would be like? Or did you just went to the store and bought it? I want to get an iPad, but I prioritized buying one for my sister (Pro) and my mom (Air). So I’ll wait a bit longer.
I very briefly tried the iPad Pro in store before buying, but I still bought the regular iPad. The regular iPad is definitely usable for notetaking, but the overall experience of using the iPad Pro is better. For me the iPad was a mistake buy because shortly afterwards, I decided I wanted to use the iPad a lot more for school and for life in general so I bought the iPad Pro lol
Hey Ella nice to meet you, I always see your videos in my home page, and they’re really great. I like all your honest reviews on tech. I would love to do projects with you in the future, like in iOS development.
I just rewatched this video for the 3rd time because recently i fell into the "study note taking" youtube rabbit hole even though I am not a student 😂😂 I am also not even close to being an artist but almost bought an ipad because it looked so cool and useful. Great reminder to step back from reviews and social media and really think how useful it will be on your daily life. For me besides watching videos and movies in bed the ipad would not be that useful

Same I got the iPad Air 4 aswell
You can also just buy a graphics tablet for like 30$ if you only want an iPad for digital note taking. Way cheaper and fulfills the same function if you use it with an (I expect) existing laptop and notability.
This is going to be different for everybody depending on their needs and budget. For example, as a law student and amateur artist, the iPad 6th gen was perfect for me for taking notes, reading, and making amateur digital art. Also, after my laptop stoped working, the iPad was good enough to replace it temporally. Here on my country the difference on the price with the iPad Pro is big ($400 approximately), so the 6th gen regular iPad ended being a really good option for me.
thanks for sharing :)

I’ve owned my MacBook since 2012. The only thing I had to do since is upgrade the ram and hard drive. 2012 was the last model you could upgrade yourself before they started to solder the components to the motherboard. It’s still a solid unit. I have to carry my charger everywhere with me now but it was certainly worth the $1100 spent for me.
regarding the ipad and macbook pro purchase, i think it was just that your needs changed or you did not actually think/researched it through very well.
no regrets there
even if you can say that the macbook pro could have been avoided because you made that choice by thinking "oh, i will just bootcamp in windows", the ipad was a good choice. Especially if you never had an iPad before or did not even know how it would work out. even if you had no sister you could just sell it in a quite good price.

It runs just as fast as when I first bought it, or at least, I haven't noticed it getting "old." Also I just "upgraded" my macbook for digital note taking by buying a cheap graphics tablet. Works perfectly with notability. I have no need for an iPad.
For the iPad you could’ve done a trade in to get the iPad Pro so you pay a little less for it
I think it’s also important to note that the budget IPad has improved significantly since then.

If you ever have issues with high clamping force headphones, vertically place some textbooks (slightly wider than your head) between the ear cups. Leave it overnight and it’ll make a huge difference. You don’t wanna go too wide where you’ll snap the headphones or make the fit too loose.

Am I the only person that thinks she kinda looks like Jennie?
I hate the beats too 😂 they do literally squeeze your head, at least I got them for free when I bought my MacBook pro
yeah! lol
How did you get them for free? I didn't when I got my MBP

Ever thought about selling stuff you don't like? Will never understand how people complain about stuff they own and don't just get rid of it.
What are the chances you’ll regret purchasing an M1 MacBook Air when Apple introduces a new M1X-based 16” MacBook Pro 6 months from now...?
There will always come new stuff so I think you should go for it! It will definitely also be way more expensive as it’s a pro
"young and stupid". why is this so relatable
i can listen to your talking voice everyday lol
I think regrets are only valid if you didn't think about it like your first two purchases. Once you have made an educated decision, there is still room for mistakes simply because you can't predict the future. It's not something you have control over hence it's not worth regretting. Remember you can only say you regret buying your iPad in hindsight, you don't know what other possibilities you could have walked down. Such as not liking digital note taking because for example the eyestrain was too much for you to bear.
My brother-in-law who is a music producer thinks Beats is isn't worth the money.
macs and macbooks are for casual users or people who only care about resolution.
I thought I was the only one who got headaches from my beats!
I bought a 2012 maxed out MacBook Pro in 2020 for iOS development and it didn’t turn on :(
:(
@@CreatedbyEllaYT But now I have ordered 2020 M1 MacBook Pro :)
Thanks for this video!! I was wondering earlier in the year what I wanted for Christmas and this video really helped me out!
