Some of the reviews for this don't make sense. This ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA works as well as any power strip I've used. Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. Plugged in next to Tripp Lite Isobar takes some of these reviews with a pinch of sumthin' - does what it says & functions properly.Had for about a month. Perfect no complaints will update if anything changes.

All the bells and whistles of an iPad Pro are very tempting of course, but at the end of the day I only use an iPad for media consumption, some browsing and occasionally for email. I got myself the absolute base model iPad 10. It does exactly what I need it to, and I still have the benefits of the Apple ecosystem on top.

The vast majority of tasks that I do on my MacBook Pro can be done on my iPad. I can even do my video editing on my iPad if have to, and I considered doing that because that would simplify my video making process from script writing, to audio recording, to video editing, to thumbnail creation, to uploading the video down to just one device.
The main problem I have with the iPad though is ironically the simple tasks that Apple could easily allow if they aren’t so restrictive. For example, there are certain websites I use that don’t work well on the iPad because I need to use actual Chrome, not the iOS version of Chrome. Also, certain apps like Discord are not fully featured on the iPad compared to the Mac/Windows version.
Finally, the problem I have with using the iPad as a laptop replacement is that I’ll leave it in the keyboard case the vast majority of the time, and at that point, why not just use a laptop? I’m sure there are advantages of just having one device that can do it all, but unless Apple loosens their restrictions on iPadOS, I’ll just find it more practical to have a MacBook, and a cheap iPad for those lighter but niche tasks like thumbnail creation.

I don't like using my iPad for the same reason and the iPad mini just doesn't work as good for me as well either, after owning one not too long ago. Certain programs and websites don't work on the iPad. I prefer the Mac Mini over all. Until Apple lets up on their tight restrictions, if they that ever happens, I'll stick with the Mac Mini and my Mac Book.

A few years ago I needed an upgrade, but budgetary restrictions prevented me from upgrading both my MacBook and iPad. I decided to go with the iPad Pro because it fit my budget and seemed to be capable of doing everything I needed to do for my RUclips channel with a little imagination as well as decent graphics with the Apple Pencil.
The result was I edited video using Lumafusion, filmed videos actually using my iPad on a tripod since an expensive camera was out of the question. I created graphics in Procreate and utilized some video templates using Viddyoze. Turned out I managed pretty well for over two years. Maybe not the posh look of some of the higher end channels, but much better than the majority of folks just starting out.
Then, finally upgrading both to a newer iPad Pro and an M1 MacBook with Final Cut Pro, I was so used to the Lumafusion system that Final Cut seemed laborious! Yes, you can definitely do things on a MacBook that you can’t on an iPad. But the reverse is also true, especially in terms of feeling like I could actually drawn on the screen of the iPad with the Apple Pencil. But my needs are not going to be your needs and vice versa.
My personal conclusions from this experience is that it’s really going to be what you’re used to for most people. And many can’t effectively use higher end equipment without time and experience. I’m agree with the advice of starting with what you have and learning as you go. Spending a lot up front will not make one’s content better. But producing good content will certainly allow your channel, and the creator, to understand what they need as they grow. More to the point, I would not want to live without either my iPad or MacBook. But if given a choice, I could not do some of what I do without the Apple Pencil…which is the closest thing to a real drawing tool I’ve found for digital art. Definitely something some other people could live without though, if as you say, you only need a stylus for note taking.
Can a person get by with just an iPad? Absolutely! But from person to person, results are going to vary.

I’m doing music production, I’ve abandoned my MacBook Pro then stepped down to an Air, but now I’m using the iPad Pro more, for the recording and sequencing of my hardware gear and software. (Pretty much what I used to do on a MacBook).
Even though the workflow is entirely different to what I’m used too, and quite modular in its setup (music gear and software wise) I am enjoying it.
There are some limitations, but there are limitations with everything.
That said, I’m still completing full tracks despite the fact my iPad Pro is the generation before M1s hit the stores, basically it can do what I need it to do, and when I do eventually upgrade the iPad I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to do more of the same, but a little better (running multiple apps) etc.

After still buying a new MacBook beginning this year, I am currently getting rid of all my Apple computers.
This after Apple screwed me by disallowing me to upgrade to Ventura my 2019 Mac Pro of over 4,000 USD. Being not possible to upgrade to the latest OS after just 2.5 years was just too much for me.

I'm purchasing a desktop setup to replace my laptop, I feel that my iPad has taken over my on the go needs and is far more enjoyable to travel with. My ipad could use an upgrade but the original 2018 ipad pro is still rocking so I'll ride it out for now and put the money into my workstation.
I tried to go full ipad for about 6 months but I found that my workflow suffered. Although I could complete most all tasks, some required a workaround and some just weren't as efficient on ipad os. Especially file management. Getting the keyboard helped a lot.
Recently I got into 3d modeling for work and although it would be amazing, blender is unfortunately not available on ipad

The iPad is the "computer" is for those users that for whatever reasons either didn't grow up using a desktop operating system, or just don't want to learn how to, that still need to get work done. It's supposed to be the "new" computer that is easy to learn to use, and as idiot-proof as possible, yet can still morph between a laptop typing experience, a tablet for old fashion writing, and photo editing work, and also just be propped up and used as a mobile TV.
I'm glad you're going to give it a whirl. :)

One thing I’ve noticed for me, and quite possibly others, is what you use the iPad for. I’m an author and playwright, as a result the iPad has accidentally become my only computer. Between using Scribble for rough drafts to using a very good Bluetooth keyboard (not the expensive folio); my iPad does everything I need. Everyone’s needs are different, though.

  • @rafaeldomenikos5978

    Nice video!
My take on this is the following. First of all you are so right that iPads last FOREVER! Currently writing this on my 2015 12.9 iPad Pro. It’s a 2015 machine that I use daily and only very recently replaced for heavier tasks (like two weeks ago when I bought an M1 12.9). The 2015 can still get all things done! I mostly upgraded because I got spoiled by my MacBooks miniLED screen and wanted it in my iPad as well 😅.
Now considering that fact that a lot of people I hear don’t use their iPads a lot, gets me baffled. I mean for me, I currently have 3 iPads and use them all on a daily basis. They are my default media consumption machines. And my iPad Pro (now the M1, until recently the first gen) is my entire library and note taker. Hundreds of pdfs of science papers books, all my notes etc (got to love notability). And also since I moved to a Mac as my main machine I have only one word to say: SIDECAR ! Dual displays on the go !
The area where I have to disagree is the point of going iPad only. I am against the idea of going to “anything” only. I work daily with macOS, iPadOS, Windows 10 & 11, Linux (Ubuntu & raspbian). All of the OS’s and machines are limited. If you choose to go to one only you miss out on so many stuff. I mean the only viable option would be windows I guess with a touch screen and WSL. But boy is windows the worst of the lot when it comes to OS’s. But it is the most universal one so you’d have access to most stuff. Anyway, I’d never go back to a windows only lifestyle. I’ll probably never go back to a single OS lifestyle tbh, unless Apple decides to put macOS on the iPad Pro and enables sideloading and external gpu’s (yeah not happening anytime soon 😅)

I just don’t understand what is appealing about iPad mini. It’s an attractive device and I’ve been tempted, but I have an m2 11” iPad Pro and I just don’t see the need. The 11” pro is small and light enough for taking anywhere, has a bigger screen and is just more powerful. I use it for art and taking notes in class mostly, and I don’t see the appeal of taking notes on any smaller of a screen than that, it seems too restrictive. What are y’all’s thoughts?

I live and die by my Mini 5 and will probably grab a Mini 6 sooner or later. I own four iPads: an original iPad from 2010 that I keep for sentimental value (it still works), an iPad 2 that runs my old 32-bit apps, a second generation 12.9" iPad Pro that I mainly use for watching videos with my wife, and my Mini 5. Of all of them, the Mini 5 gets more use than the other three put together. It's small, easy to have with me all the time, and powerful enough to do all the music stuff I do, including creating entire albums of original music. One of these days I'd like to get an m2 12.9" Pro for Apple Pencil-based work, but until then I'm going to get the most out of my Mini.

The only thing stopping me from switching to iPad full time is the fact that Safari is, functionally, the only browser available on iPadOS -- as "competing" browsers like Firefox and Chrome are basically just skins for Safari. Unfortunately, Safari is incompatible with some websites that I must use regularly for work, as well as a few others that I use for leisure, like Roll20, where my weekly tabletop group plays together. Until the iPadOS ecosystem opens up to allow actual alternatives to the Safari browsing experience, I'm stuck living the dual MacOS/iPadOS life.

If your a video editor, editing on davinci on a iPad on a external monitor feels just like a damn MacBook or Mac. The file system is really good on iPad and gets better with every iPad os update. While I like my iPad Air and I use it frequently, I prefer to use a laptop hooked up to a couple side monitors along with a Logitech mouse and the full sized MX Keys. I can multitask much better with the additional side monitors in addition to the 15 inch laptop monitor. Even though my windows laptop is a touchscreen, I hardly use that feature with it. Yeah, I am old school, REALLY Old school, but I go with what works for me.
The iPad is much better for zoom meetings, great for day trips, and vacations, I wasn't going to get another iPad after I bought the iPad Mini back in 2017, but it's really convenient.

The whole thing is a bit of a quandary isn't it? And like you said, MacBook Pro is the workhorse but also the "comfy slipper", and iPad Pro holds so much promise with what should be a more productive and physical professional hands-on workflow, but still falls short. The solution, (as their has to be a new way!) imo that new way will be the use of eyes and hands, in the upcoming Apple Vision Pro headset. Hyped! But until then, for now the XDR iPad Pro & Space Black MacBook Pro is still a joy!

I use my phone, tablet, laptop (that I like to call a notebook) and e-ink tablets for work and home. As with everything else, I own too many of them, as I like to try stuff. However, paring it all down and setting the phone aside, there are good reasons for an Apple notebook (I love my MacBook Air) and an iPad. I have a four year old Pro attached to a Magic Keyboard that I use most of the day. It is a brilliantly designed product and I am glad to have lived long enough to enjoy it. But, there are times that I just need the larger screen and flexibility of the MacBook Air. Not that I have tried them all, but the MacBook Air is the best laptop computer I have ever used. Need, budget and mental balance all come into play with these things, but if you do not have a particular need for a laptop, then an iPad and an external keyboard, magic or otherwise, is all you will ever need. For heavier uses, like those of our fearless leader, Mark, the best tool available for the task is the best choice. Forcing yourself to use something else just because you want to see if it will do is like hiring your nephew just to satisfy your sister.

Case in point; I found my old Sennheiser HD 25 SPs the other day and used them to compare the AIrPod Max headphones against - couldn't do that on an iPad. Distance and scale is everything. Watching a video on my iPhone in my hands gives me a screen the size of a 60 inch TV on the wall. Sometimes I choose my iPad Air2 and its almost like a cinema view. I am curious about a Mini next time, but then again its maybe not that different from my iPhone. For reading books or extensive writing ( with pencil?) - yes. It is constantly getting more difficult to choose between my phone, my pad or my mac. I want as few items as possible, and at the same time one item can’t be perfect for everything. Maybe a bigger iPhone next time, or rather a smaller one (if they still exist)?? Decisions decisions…..

I use Garageband on the iPad to create music (not professionally). However - there are two things that I still need a Mac for (a 2014 Mac Mini, to be precise). 1: Create and edit smart playlists in Apple Music; and 2: Time Machine. iPadOS doesn't have anything like Time Machine (and by that I mean - a backup tool that allows you to restore files from specific points-in-time - and is free.

Simple things like inserting a few rows take multiple clicks instead of just inserting one row and then go ctrl y y y y y ..., F2 to get to the end of the content in a cell, etc. Hence, out came my loathed Windows machine, and although I hate it, I must say most tasks are just getting done a lot faster. Having had previous iPad mini’s and enjoying them,I had planned to get the iPad mini 6 when it first came out but all the reviewers and forum users highlighting the “jelly scroll” issue in landscape mode put me off.I may as well wait for the next generation now (which can’t be too far away) and hope that the issue is resolved.

I’ve been trying to use my iPad for years as a main computer but they designed it so you aren’t able. They wanted to keep selling iMacs and iPads. They didn’t want the iPad taking their laptop and desktop sails

Watching this on my iPad mini 5, Lol, which is still my most used device. I wasn’t impressed with the mini 6 when it came out, and instead invested my money in the iPad Air5 with M1, pencil 2 and a Magic Keyboard was a fantastic gift from my oldest son😊. I use this as much as I use my Mac Mini M1 desktop - both for different things - both at my desk although the iPad air and Magic Keyboard is also great on my lap on a comfy lounge… My pre-teen recently upgraded his standard iPad Gen 7 to the Gen 10 and loves the speed and battery life; so much so that my partner is eying one for himself. He’s a desktop and laptop user, so the Gen 10 is perfectly fine for his general use. But for me… the only thing that will scrape this mini5 out of my death-grip is perhaps a mini 7 with a decent screen refresh rate and perhaps pencil 2 compatibility. Subscribed to your new channel😊

As much as I want to try this. My work requires to upload all of my editing files (company assets), and that includes everything. I have fellow editors and our main Software is Adobe Premiere, so even if I want to switch to my IPAD (I have an Ipad Air 5th Gen M1) I really can't because they will also need my files, but hoping to have a workflow/workaround to edit adobe premiere files to an Ipad.

  • @Chanson_Dada
    @Chanson_Dada Год назад +1

One thing I’ve found to be wary of is that I have had a tendency to reach out to scroll when the ipad is on an almost vertical stand. It didn’t take long for me to develop RSI in my shoulder, particularly my deltoids. I’ve mostly trained myself out of this by varying how I perform different actions. Magic Trackpad on the left, trackball mouse on the right and if I’m only using the one ipad separate keyboard in the middle. If I’m using two iPads i can flip between iPads. Both the mouse and the keyboard flip with a one button press. Not so straightforward with the magic trackpad but also not necessary anyway mostly as I’m mostly working in Affinity or Procreate with the pencil.
All this is something I’ve carried over from my set up where I used desktop macs more. Back the there was a Wacom in the middle.

The problem for me was the software, meaning iPadOS. It's basically an iPhone with a bigger screen, and it just doesn't cut it for my needs. Sold my iPad Pro 5 months after buying it. Yes you can use it for most stuff, but not enough for many of them.

Well, when it comes to tablets, the iPad is definitely the best tablet you buy simply because of the iPad App Store, and they are bringing pro apps to the iPad like Davinci resolve and next year they’re bringing Final Cut and you have procreate but the apps for the iPad is different then the apps on the iPhone and definitely a lot better than the Google play store apps, especially when it comes to tablets

@@honestnerd oh yeah, and Apple will never sell iPads with macOS on them simply because it would hinder the sales of their best selling laptop. I mean why would you buy a MacBook Air if the iPad could switch from iPadOS and macOS? You wouldn’t, and Apple knows that so it wouldn’t make good business sense for them, I would love it, but I know they’ll never do it

I think the iPad was great when laptops were still on spinning hard drives and the instant on was the major selling point. But now laptops are rapid I feel like they’ve lost their attraction. I bought a 12.9 1tb m1 and it’s sat unused for most of the year. Im having to force myself to use it out of principle of the money I’ve spent. It’s great but I do wish I’d spent the money upgrading my laptop instead

I tried to use my iPad Pro as my only device, but it just didn’t work. Even Word and Premiere Rush on the iPad seem so limited compared to on MacOS. So I sold it, got an iPad Mini 6 and MacBook Air - the two are great together, a balance of portability and note-taking heaven vs awesome apps and better typing than on any iPad keyboard.

Did you experience the bugs I have with external display?
Video call apps (and even the camera a bit) are buggy. Biggest bug - Zoom, Discord, others? - I have my iPad in landscape orientation on my stand, I start the call on my iPad and all is good. Move it to display, and I’m in portrait orientation and sideways.
Streaming apps - I open the show on my iPad to watch it there, but work on external display… but the show will stream on my external display instead. One app even says it’s airplay. So now I can’t watch a show and work at the same time.
RUclips is extremely buggy on external display.
I’d be happy to make a video to explain this better.

I’m still very much in the Steve Jobs mode of a Mac and an iPad are two totally different things to be used in different ways. Having said that there does seem to be some blurring of that going on not just because of the tech reviewers constantly demanding it but by Apple itself. I mean previously iOS was same for iPhones and iPads not there is a distinct separate version for the two devices the question is why and this only leads to the speculation that iPadOS will evolve into a mobile version of MacOS. I can’t understand why Apple just doesn’t do the same for iPadOS as it did for MacOS when it allowed iOS apps to run. They just need to allow MacOS apps to run native on iPadOS. Looking forward to seeing how your project develops and your experiences good and bad.
