    I remember the late 90s early 2000s. The Diablo 2 box was awe inspiring to look at and felt magical. I must of been too young at the time early teens. But I was terrible at D2 online. Nowadays I have a new found enjoyment out of it where I can understand what to do now, and yet, the drive to find all the cool magical gear is still with me, I'd jump for joy finding awesome stuff. I found my first Shako not too long ago and I was like OMG YESSS. I'm 32 now lol.

    Good video, and tale. I must admit, Brevik is one of my heroes. The things you've accomplished in life, is nothing short of amazing. What you did with Diablo has had such a huge impact on my life... I've logged over 10k hours in Diablo 2 alone, and at least 5k hours in Diablo 1... I spent so much of my youth glued to my PC, and grinding runes and uniques... I've had 12 or 13 level 99s... And i don't think there'll ever be a game as addictive as those games. Diablo 3... Great game, but has NOTHING to do with Diablo, save for the lore... So, can't wait to see, if they goof up the upcomming Diablo 4, despite promisses of it becomming dark enough... They really should turn the Diablo Franchise back to you, Brevik and all of your original team... I hear a Netflix series on Diablo is in the works... Can't wait to see if that lives up to the hype.... But i digress... In short... THANKS !! From a eternal fan... ;)

      Great memories here too with diablo 2.i never cared to grind like you. I just loved the story and gameplay. A lot. Lol. I think at this point.. it's either they have soo many ideas that they wish they could have done after 20 years that it would take them longer than blizzard does to make games.. or.. or.. they have barely thought about the diablo games since 02. Yeah we still see them get interviewed and yeah they saw d3 release. Maybe even played it. But they've been focused on their new games they make. Their personal lives. It would be a massive undertaking for them to do diablo 4. I think they're capable of it but they'd have to want it bad enough and it would have to be paid very very well. Who knows.. maybe in about 8 to 10 years they'll be put to the task and make a fantastic diablo 5. Or.. call it diablo origin's. Lol. Idk. What's a good new game name for diablo instead of 4 5 6 7??

      I remember D1 and the (very) long wait for D2, and reading about it in PC gamer. I also remember the race to be first level 99, with GerBarb taking the crown over in Europe. Did you reach level 99 in classic, or the expansion? My baby was a level 92 barbarian in classic, but I focused mostly on PvP. I participated in one ladder reset where we were the fastest team on the entire realm to beat each difficulty, so I was pretty decent/addicted to the game. I was lucky to play with some of the best players on the realm and it was a nice community with generous people. And that was the days before teamspeak and discord, etc. so we only knew each other through chat. Definitely the most fun I've had gaming, Diablo 2 was just a masterpiece.

Too bad that Blizzard South didn't let him make his own Diablo 3. And then Diablo 4. Brevik is just the right person in the right postion, D1 and D2 just proved it. Blizzard North was a great team... but now it's just the past, killed by Blizzard South's greed and lust for power. I am so fascinated by Diablo series that i have even stored D2 pre-release videos about gameplay etc. Even Blizzard North studio is shown in one of them. Also interview with young David. take a look at mrllamaSC's interview with max schaefer, they do mention it a little. it was supposed to be an mmo iirc with a similar theme like d2 of course.
      they already wanted a shared world or at least a shared town in d2 but it was too complex at the time so they cut it
      i wouldn't be surprised if they used some of the ideas for the original d3 in WoW. Though after splitting up their first games and tries at making something similar failed hard until they got to making Torchlight

    Everybody. Go find the other presentation of this. He tells the story more in depth and the crowd isn't silent and unresponsive like this crowd.. ugh these guys are awful. The crowd in his other video are fun and he makes them laugh. And he gives a guy the original diablo in its case still because the guy admitted that he got it by hacking and never bought the game. I think he gave brevik 20 bucks for it. It was a great moment. Please watch that one!

    • @omoncon3941
      @omoncon3941 4 года назад

      I wouldn't be ALL that harsh on the crowd! The GDC talk was 'ideal' since everybody in the room was basically a fluent or native English speaker, I wouldn't be surprised if many people here were shy or not confident enough in English to react as strongly to this presentation as an American crowd might. Also, this talk at least goes a bit into Diablo II's development a bit over the halfway point, which Brevik's GDC talk never goes into (save for a few tangential audience questions), so there's value in this too!
      However, I wouldn't be surprised if Brevik does another huge in-depth talk for Diablo II since its 20th anniversary is just a few months away~

    • @dominblabla
      @dominblabla 4 года назад +2

      The thing is that 2016 presentation is only about Diablo 1.. not even a word of Diablo 2. Here he's talking about both games, which is cool. I loved D2 same as D1.

    • @Syntherus
      @Syntherus 3 года назад +1

    At 32 minutes in David talks about skill balancing with synergies in the 1.10
    Patch. It is my opinion that particular patch ruined D2, and made way for a mass exodus up to D2 LOD. Strictly for D2 not LOD. Synergies took away unique character innovation. Synergies basically required you add skill points only to the skills that help out your main killing skill. They should have balanced out the skills without synergies. Also, they should have left life and mana leech during pvp. Synergies made classic D2 all about the items. They did not introduce new Items in D2. Only in LOD did they do that.

    • @Danlovar
      @Danlovar 3 года назад +3

      He had to do that if he wanted people use other skills.

    • @showmetheway2
      @showmetheway2 Год назад +1

      1.09 is still my favourite Diablo experience. However, I do think 1.10 ultimately increased the longevity of the game .This became really important because Diablo 3 never came out.

    • @byrondelgado5521
      @byrondelgado5521 Год назад +1

      @@showmetheway2 true the introduction of runewords and ubers extended the games life and added new synergy builds. However, inevitably it came at the expense of character diversity and made the builds 100% all about items a.k.a. Runewords. Since the game is all about items now I think they need to balance out the items by re-introducing rares that are equivalent to Runewords, and buffing some of the unique and set items.

    • @showmetheway2
      @showmetheway2 Год назад

      @@byrondelgado5521 Agreed. I'll go so far as to say that the original D3 never coming out changed ARPGs forever. Since people played the same game over and over "the meta" culture g and 'speed farming' became far more mainstream to the ARPG experience than it was meant to be. Everyone had to be given teleport after a while.
      D3 encouraged speed and more mindless combat and we have never looked back.
      I think D4 will also become about speed with the way the feedback is coming in.
      I understand this is a VERY controversial opinion.I loved 1.09s pace.

    Brevik is overrated, he should keep his mouth shut, because his opinions are as irrelevant as his career is for the last 20 years. He made two good games, and he wasn't alone in that venture. Ever since Diablo 2, his career has been in a downward spiral, so it's kinda laughable to see him preaching all the time about what's good and what's bad for the gaming industry, when everything he did for the last two decades is complete and utter garbage.
