  • Free up a fair bit of space on your Windows drive by making sure that the system hibernate file is well and truly disabled and deleted.
I always forget to do this when I build a new machine so here is a quick demonstration of using the command line to disable hibernation in Windows. This also includes how and where to find the file on your system.
This is nothing new but as I was doing it today, I have added it to my channel for reference.
NOTE: This goes without saying but anything you delete on your system is your responsibility.
Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you enjoy the videos.

Initially I was conflicted why my C Drive had progressively been consuming my storage. Found out it was from a Hibernate File and didn't know how to delete it right until I found your video.
Cheers mate, appreciate you for creating this video.

Very simple and easy to understand. This saved my life. My old pc's C drive was maxed out even with barely any programs installed. my hiberfil.sys was 50GB in size. I had no idea this file that I never use was just eating up space. Thank you so much for this!!!

Thank you Sir! I had 68.3 GB on mine....YIKES!!! My main hard drive was in the RED with very little space left, some of my programs didn't want to open until I did your step, now I have 135 GB free out of 222 GB. I never knew about hibernating files existed, explains everything! Now my computer runs a whole lot faster!!! Thanks again, you're a lifesaver! Decided to also move my iCloud "Photos" folder to my external hard drive since that was just as bad since I'm cleaning my hard drive right now. What a difference...super fast now!!! 😁😁😁👍👍

Cool vid man. But I have a question: What if I want to use it now and maybe not so much in the future? Should I only disable it later?
And can you delete this file manually, which shouldn't do anything bad in theory because it will onlu erase the file your computer uses to turn on quickly when waking up from hibernation?

I suppose Car manufactures could use something like this to steal half tank of fuel, giving you false readings on fuel levels, storing half tank of fuel but giving a reading the tank is empty when it's actually got half tank so when you take the car for service they empty half tank of fuel then when you goto fill back up it fills the reserve tank costing you more at the pump, since cars are all computerized the computer could tell the injectors to stop sending fuel to the engine giving you a false empty reading on your dash board, why is windows reserving 40 percent of storage space for sleeping? specially if you never use hibernation settings. This makes me suspect on fuel readings on my car, am i really using the whole tank of fuel or only half.
There is no reason why windows should require this amount of storage for hibernation, it never has before but with windows 10 and larger SSD drives they seem to think taking up minimum 40 percent storage space is needed for something you'll never need to use, in over 30 years of computing i have never used hibernation, what tech at windows thought this was a great idea, because it's like stealing atleast 100 dollars worth of HD space on my main system drive. The fact this was hidden tells me something more sinister is going on, this is worse then being attacked by a virus, 107 GB is not a small amount of space to hide from sight! very sneaky windows!
