I've been watching this channel since its inception... I hope the same thing... I don't know if you've been here that long, but it almost DID die.. You can probably still find Luke's "final" video floating around.. It's heartbreaking.
Thank you very much for the kind words, I really appreciate it. I still try to put up videos here and there and I'll try to float around here for a while longer lol. Take care
Back in the early 10s you inspired me to take my retro videogame passion to a new level. I'm grateful for that, I'm happy that you keep filming your videos! I like you and your channel :) All the best
Wow, that is very kind of you to say and I'm glad that you could get into gaming from these videos. I wish you all the best. Ill keep putting up videos when and where I can but once again, thank you for your support! Hope you have a good week!
Hey Luke, I just repaired an old PlayStation 1 yesterday and reminded me of your videos. It was sold for junk on eBay for a really cheap price. I got it home and the only problem was someone forgot to reconnect the power cable to the motherboard. I fixed that and cleaned it up. The laser still works great and the new homebrew software the community has made is amazing to play with.
Wow! Congratulations! glad to hear about another old system being saved from the grave. Nice work! glad there was some nostalgia mixed in there as well. So many great games for the old PS1 Im sure you can enjoy
Hey thanks a lot chompster! Its nice to have it playable finally after the couple of month wait. I'm glad these videos still have that excitement factor to them and hope to get up another video shortly
Definitely! Those classic booming soundtracks from Daytona to Space Harrier, loads of awesomeness. Im glad I could get this one running and thanks again!
Great work, it’s good to see you got it up and running again. You’re right about how bodged the wiring can get over time when all they cared about was getting the game going again. I recently did a restoration of a House of the Dead and I had to work out all the Model 2 harness pin-outs from the schematics. By the end I knew it so well I could actually spot several mistakes in the diagrams! 😅 It’s a shame there’s no source of replacement chips for the customs on these boards. I fear they’re all basically ticking time bombs that will inevitably not turn on one day. 😢
Haha, I totally hear that. I know what you mean about studying the schematics going "wait a minute here...." you can find a lot hidden surprises. There are some people out there trying to reproduce these IC chips but yeah, having proper storage, good cooling, proper power etc will hopefully help them to stay running a little longer! Great job on the HOTD
Hey Luke. Remember watching you way back in 09-10 when the community was really tight knit. Glad to see you're still grinding away. For some reason I'll always remember your video of you trying the McDog.
LOL, you might have to mention that to MetalJesus for me :) I really appreciate the kind words and support a lot. Thank you very much and I hope I can keep the vids rolling. Hope you are doing well!
Boy Howdy Luke! This machine never received so much love since it left the factory. It's so much like After Burner that I think this would do great in one of those moving seat cabinets that After Burner came in. Cool video dude, always nice to see part of your repair struggles.
Hey hey Highlander! Its been a bit. I think this would have been one step better if it had the roll feature and a bit more hectic like Afterburner. This one is a little slower. The cheap part is not having a lot of time to destroy the bosses. Im glad that it works nevertheless. Always great to hear from you and thanks for checking!
You and I both lol. Not the easiest one to troubleshoot but definitely glad to be able to have it running again. I'll try to get another vid up..soon...ish :)
Sega really did make some great games for the arcade for sure. I appreciate the kind words. I do what I can to revive these old arcade games and make them playable for just a bit longer.
LOL, what a coincidence. That is totally awesome! I wonder how many people are still playing this one now. Now that you mentioned it, I was playing Resident Evil Code:Veronica on the sega naomi two days ago and yesterday, videogameesoterica put up a video on it as well. Definitely something going on haha. Thanks for checking it out!
The Model 2 had the world's fastest 3D hardware when it was introduced. The design came from GE Aerospace who developed similar hardware for flight simulation. Sega engineers managed to condense a $50,000 board to a couple of CMOS chips. Even then a complete board set for one game would have been close to $5,000.
Haha, Thanks Marty! Yeah, videos dont go up as often as they used to but I try to get them out when I can. I would love to make them more often but time is the tricky part lol. Thanks again
Hey there MetalT! Thanks a lot as usual. I have never played this on the emulator but having the joystick makes a world of difference lol. Hope things are going well on your end
You can say that again. I was really glad to see it fire up again after getting the parts I needed for it and fixing the crusty parts on top of that. Thanks as always!
Hey hey, Thanks a lot man! I always appreciate it a lot. Sorry about the messenger, I havent used it in a long time and that may be why. Not intentional at all. I hope you are doing well and still getting your game on :)
Hey hey my man. Ive got a few different rust removers but the ones I have actually remove the nickel off metal and eat away at them. Do you know if Evapo-Rust does the same or does it only remove the rust? I would be interested in trying something different if it works better. Thanks again and hope you are doing well
@@lukemorse1 I've used it to remove rust off a couple of control panels and a bunch of bolts and screws and it worked well with everything. It didn't remove anything but rust. I have a NeoGeo 4 slot that was in a bar arcade that has rust that stinks. It stinks to the point that I almost feel like I can taste it! Ever deal with rust that stinks? Either way, even though you can reuse Evapo-Rust, I will be throwing it out after that and starting fresh. A fairly big bottle is only like $8. It's just really risky sanding or using a wire wheel or whatever. Maybe at least wear a respirator? I just want you to be safe, man. I know you well enough to know that you mostly are, but still. You don't want that arcade rust dust in your lungs. I know a guy that was using a wire wheel on some rust and some shot into his friend that was standing by. He had to go get a tetanus shot as a result and the doctor had to dig the piece out of his forearm. What I tend to do with those rusty carriage bolts is a let them sit in the rust remover, maybe agitate them a bit with a dish scrubber, let them sit a bit more, then clean them off and paint them. Makes them look brand new with very little effort.
Always great to see a new Back Again Luke video pop up! Keep up the amazing work Luke, hope to see you doing some out and about videos again some day - it must be bicycle weather again there now? Cheers!
It's too bad a person with your skills doesn't own and operate an arcade. The ability to keep these boards up and running is such a niche skill that you could really leverage.
I really wanted to open a barcade here in Japan for the longest time however having to deal with the local mob for land protection or getting a cut of the profits turned me away from it. I still do try to keep these boards going and from time to time I help others with theirs as well. If anything, hopefully the videos will give a little support to others having similar issues. Thanks again!
Hey Luke! great to see a new video from you. I don't think I ever saw this game, I know I would have played it since I loved playing Afterburner back in the day, I can even recognize some of the audio that carried over from that game. "Fire, Fire, Fire"
