2000 Ridge Racer V Arcade Battle: How To Wire Up Original Hardware Details and Tips

- This is an off the cuff explanation of how I wired up my Ridge Racer V arcade pcb running on the Namco 246 arcade hardware.
This is specific to using actual hardware without any software modifications.
If you are thinking about wiring this system or having trouble with your hardware, this may help.
The original machine requires the steering pcb and force feedback to be 100% functional and making a good connection in order to boot.
Note: There is currently a patch that was created by lorizzuoso to allow this game to work with a software mod on multi boards and actual hardware with force feedback if you want to try for yourselves.

Been watching your videos for 15 years. Never get tired of watching them. Here's to another 15 years of great content!
One of the nicest comments a person could hope to get. Thank you for the continued support, watching the vids, and motivation. I'll keep going as long as the videos provide some sort of entertainment.
"Come on, cheer up, you can try again, you'll do it next time"
Haha! I actually have Ridge Racer 2 and that phrase was one that stuck in your head every time you lost the race.
I remember when I was in high school and watched your videos. And now I am one year out of college and I had suuuuuch a good flashback to the past with this. One of the few things that just made me so happy, and eager to go back home and watch!
Glad to see you back, and in the same good ol' style as it always has been. It's so refreshing after the growth of YT from ~10 years ago to now.
Hope you keep on going, and wish you the absolute best, from a fan from waaaaaay back when. ❤❤❤❤❤
It's been so long man. Great to see you again. Weird how you do a video on this. I literally sumbled across a flyer for sale advertising this very arcade machine a few days ago!
Thanks man, that means a lot! Its weird for me as well because I just got a message from another RUclipsr here asking me if I still had this machine 2 days ago. It must be some type of esp I suppose haha.
Very awesome video bro!
Thanks bro! glad I could show this one off and finally get it running. Also thanks for you and your friend getting the RRV patch done. I know that will be a lifesaver for so many people!
Man, that machine is insane to look at lol, it looks more like a dev kit. I can see why arcade games eventually were costing about a dollar to play them. I can only imagine how much power that sucker is pulling too. Love the videos, Luke, loved the Time Crisis vid the other day too, and hope you're doing well!
Definitely see what you mean by that lol. Yeah, the fan in the back runs off 100v as well as the driving pcb. The rest of the unit is essentially a beefy PS2. Thanks for watching the videos and for the encouragement, I really appreciate it and hope you are having a great day too!!
Luuuke ! That is a beast !
For sure man for sure! Thanks as always yo!
Great video and a bit of a challenge for you, but once again you have it working.
I have the PlayStation 2 version.
Keep up the awesome work.
Thanks David! the PS2 version is quite neat and its nice to be able to play the arcade version at home. Keep on gaming!
ahhh the ps2 based Namco system 246, one of my favorite arcade boards of all time 👍🙂
Good work saving this board. I remember playing the first Ridge Racer on the PS1 with the "long case" early games came in.
The Namco System 246 series never disappoints! Hope you've been well Luke :)
Quintessential lukemorse video! In-depth with crazy hardware and how to get it working. Like always I’ll look forward to another video you put up soon so thanks for making these!
Wow cool. Always love your videos Luke ❤
That is really kind of you to say. Thank you for watching them and Im glad you enjoyed it!
You never fail to deliver great content ☺
Really awesome of you to say and thanks for everything over the years 🙏
Isn't it astounding how much of a monstrosity namco had to build just to play this game. Ridge Racer is very well emulated on several platforms nowadays, but just look at their granddaddy. Amazing stuff.
Nicel share Luke 😎👍
Only realised that RRV got an Arcade release recently... or maybe I just forgot? 😅...
I guess that's ageing for ya 🏁
No probs at all. Thanks for checking the vids as usual. Its one of those games that quite a few people never knew existed and the hardware can be a pain in the but for sure. Not ageing at all, just so many games out there! Have a good one!
@@lukemorse1 Thanks👌 Have a great week 🤟
Ridge Racer is awesome , played it a lot on xbox360 but this seems even better :) nice job!
holy crap, that thing is a mess ^^
thanks for this vid, master luke.
and please, dont go anywhere near that thing
when the juice is plugged in... a little slip and bad things can happen.
Haha, yeah, there are wires everywhere. This machine was not intended to be out of the cabinet and that 100v is nothing to mess with for sure. Thanks as always!
I beat the black and the white cars on the first game on ps. Only game I had with launch console, so I got really good at it. You have to block the white car down the last straight looking in rear view mirror.
Nice! some good advice there and cool to hear how your managed to figure it out!
Į love Ridge Racer 4 on PlayStation.💛
That is a bit more involved than your standard JAMMA connector!
I never knew Ridge Racer V had an arcade port! Is the hardware essentially a PS2?
It actually is a modified version of the PS2
Hey there Larry. Yes indeed. Its quite neat to play and based off the PS2 hardware! Btw, did you get your Turtles cab up and running again? I remembered you had that one and the punching machine outside but wondered if you gotten them going. Hope you are doing well man
❤❤❤❤
Very cool! I guess the game is less aliased than on ps2? It was a big blemish on the home version :(
This one did a little better than the PS2 version did but like all of the the namco ridge racer series, they dont have the longest of stages nor the most variety. If you want that, the Wangan racing or Initial D ones have a whole lot more!
Thanks luke. There is a patch on arcade projects that bypasses the need for the ffb if you dont have that board.
I'm always nervous with 110+ volts going to an IO board, it's the same with the ffb on my rave racer cab.
Think Luke already put it in the video description 😊🤘🏁
For sure. I have already put that information in the video description and one of the people I mentioned there as already commented here as well. Putting that much voltage to the boards really does make you feel a bit shaky for sure lol. Thanks for checking and Rave Racer is another absolute classic!
Oh wow yo
wow looks like a really fragile hardware😅 rememered me of wiring up my dreamcast steering wheel to my naomi cabinet to play initial-d back in the day😅
