There's a drive-in near where I live, and I think two others still in British Columbia. I have visited one in eastern Washington State as well, which managed to re-open after storm damage. The movie fare they program now is more family friendly, not like the 1970s when they'd do a four or five movie dusk-til-dawn mix of movies on holiday weekends.
Hi Ken- Great shave today; thank you! Beautiful razor, indeed; I hope you have many years of enjoyment shaving with it! Hope the weekend is getting off to a great start and all the best!
Looking forward to seeing some more Bond style shaves but wow, this vintage gillette series is going to be amazing as well. Can't wait to see your next vintage razor!
Terrific shave video Ken loved your very informative cleaning ritual which should be very helpful for anyone picking up a vintage razor imo you also dialed that lather in to perfection!
Nice snag on the Aristocrat. Was talking to my Dad (87), he switched back to his old Gillette couple years ago, got tired of dropping $20 for a few blades. Recall using Grandads adjustable razor on fishing trips back in the 70s. So, yesterday, I found a like-new Fatboy w/ good case & am watching some shave videos and shopping for blades, soap/creme brushes & mugs. Those old Gillette Adjustables are so are so cool! & none of them were more than $15 - $20 bucks, usually $1.95.
Great video Ken! I just recently got my first vintage razors from my wife for Valentine's day. I got a techmatic and a black handle speed I believe from 1966! I also picked up a bottle of skinbracer this morning
Sir, thanks for your video. This is Gillette Aristocrat ♥️ Long back i dreamed, getting any Gillette razor as wet shaving lover. After long searching i realized, not possible. E bay not shipping and Original packed (Razor Emporium, USA) Gillette razor's price too high. Some where I read Parker 87 R similar to Aristocrat. I get 87R and happy. Today i see original Aristocrat in your video and it is adjustable razor !!!!!!! Sir, thank you so much 🙏🌹
Very nice video. Today I got 2 of those Aristocrats delivered, one w a box like yours (blue blades) and one w no box (was 1/2 price and better condition). Just ordered Barbicide. I also got a 109 (BlackBeauty w gold head) was cheaper and the head in better condition..not the handle. Used it yesterday and did't realize i had it on 7... good shave. BTW there is Aqua Velva Ice Sport in the US; my small supermarket has it. Plastic bottle 3.5OZ. I actually liked it and went back and got 6 (not sure they make it any more).
Great shave. The vintage Gillette adjustables are what I've been dreaming of getting. If they do release a DE razor in the US market again, it'll bring a tear to a wet shaver's eyes, knowing their lifelong dream has been fulfilled. Have a great weekend
Great shave, Ken. I just sent my ‘62 Slim Adjustable into Razor Emporium for the full revamp service. I saw what they did for your red tip. I’m hoping to add another 50 years of life to it, maybe be able to give it to one of my boys when they’re ready to shave.
Hello Ken and another very good video. The Slim Adjustable whether in nickel or gold (Aristocrat) is one of my favorite Gillette vintage razors. I have a 1963 Slim that was restored by Razor Emporium and it is outstanding...especially with a Feather blade!
Thanks for sharing another great video, Ken. I have two non-adjustable Aristocrats, a 1946 and a 1947. They are my favorite Gillette razors of all time. I also see you're approaching 10K subs :). Cheers!
On a side note, wooden test tube racks make great razor stands. They hold several razors, and are readily available on ebay. Just a tip for my fellow wet shavers. Cheers!
Thanks for showing the lather! One thing I noticed is that these badger brushes keep the soap on the outside. My first and only brush is synthetic and the soap goes right inside and has a hard time coming out unless I squeeze it out. Nice video
You have a unique style of lathering. I am working on the ability to make a thin lather that isn't bubbly and doesn't dissipate or get sticky before finishing the 1st pass. I would love to see you make a video solely describing and showing in detail your lathering technique!!!
Ken we're about the same age. I think I'm 2 years older but the first drive in movies i saw were a double feature of Tora, Tora, Tora and the Godfather. My parents thought my twin brother and I would sleep through the second movie. The horses head in the bed really got me at age 7. Wasn't sleeping...

did you have fun in the snow? Everyone here in Vegas freaked out... I keep forgetting to tell you... there's a new James Bond Thunderball slot machine in Nevada... pretty cool!
I just received one today. I bought it on eBay. It’s also a G3, it has the blue box of blades, the pamphlet, and even the little slip of tissue paper. It appears virgin. A little wear on the outside of the shipping sleeve, but that’s it. It’s going into the safe, never to be used. I have a slim adjustable being replated in rose gold by razor emporium, that may or may not be used as well. I might have to get a third.
That's a great looking razor! I think I like using the vintage razors better than the modern razors. Even like using a vintage blade now and then when I can find them in unopened packages. I've got some Gillette Super Blues and some Gillette Thin Blades. Even found some old Wilkinson Sword blades.
I too collect vintage shave items, though ironically I rarely shave. Mostly Gillette stuff. Not sure why, but watching you shave while you talked to the camera was oddly relaxing... subscribed.

I have an old Gillette my Grandfather use to shave with but I don't buy any of their new products... Like most things seem to do, they have really gone downhill with time.
Ken just a side note. Disinfectants are not cleaners. They should be used after cleaning. Best practices would be to throughly clean then disinfect with barbicide. “Disinfecting is the killing of most microbial life that can lead to infection in humans-such as Influenza, Staphylococcus, HIV/AIDS, Herpes, Salmonella and Hepatitis. This step is done following cleaning and requires the use of a disinfectant such as Barbicide®, Barbicide® Plus or Barbicide® Wipes.”
I thought you said barbicide then clean. That could be interesting... Oh god oh god we are all going to die... I just don’t want you to get sick (or anyone) because of something so simple as not cleaning before disinfecting.
