I love your vids and what makes them special is that my dad was such a huge sinatra fan. he grew up in the 3Os and 40s and when he was outside playing every Saturday at noon sinatra would come on the radio and dad said his mom would call him in to listen as he never wanted to miss it. his buddy's laughed at him for that haha. our house was filled with listening to old blue eyes so I ended up loving him too. when ever we got co my dad would put on the sinatra record's and make them listen to him lol. as he got older he got to meet Frank once. my dad was a semi pro drummer and whenever the big bands came to town and their drummer could not make it or could not play for whatever reason dad was the local drummer who would fill in. he played with Benny Goodman once and count basie and some others. he almost got to play with Glenn Miller orchestra. there was a place where he grew up where all the big bands came to play back in the day. rambling on here lol.
I miss my dad. sadly he never taught me how to shave but I know he had a Slim or fat boy as I remember as a kid seeing those numbers on an all silver razor. no idea what happened to it.

It seems like the nostalgia focuses at about 30 years prior to where we are. There was a ton of 50s nostalgia in the 80s--I worked at a garden/landscaping store and we started getting lots of requests for 50s lawn ornaments (like the tinted, mirrored orbs that sat on a pedestal and plastic pink flamingos).

I'm based in the UK, and you're right it's easily available here. One thing you will notice with this cream is that inside the tube, after awhile, the paste can separate a little. Meaning, you come to squeeze your tube and an oily liquid can come out, plus paste, too. It's a very easily rectifiable feature this, if you remember to give your Ingram tube a jolly good shake BEFORE squeezing onto your brush. This 'separation' inside the tube can happen, if you haven't used the cream for a fair while. (Actually many shaving creams in tubes can present that 'separation'.) One other thing: don't know whether you were in a rush or simply it's your style of lathering, but personally I'd have worked the cream into a more voluminous lather on the face. Of course, if you were happy with what you got then that's what matters Cheerio!

I just scored a beautiful 1966 Slim L1 as part of a larger lot for peanuts. I need to clean it, but otherwise it seems perfect. I can't believe how substantial it feels. Just an absolutely solid hunk of metal. It's a little hard to believe it's 55 years old. I'm just getting into this hobby, but I can tell it could get out of hand quickly!

For me the bic blades did tug and was hopless to shave with, maybe it was a bad batch, ingrams is good, not as much menthol as you said, if you want a good strong menthol soap, buy Yeti snot shaving soap, made in USA, if they still sell it. Started wetshaving about a week ago and loving it. I'm using a Pearl three piece (from India) - mild-aggressive maybe, but I found that I can modify the blade gap (to make less aggressive) by using a thin strip of electrical tape on the underside of the top piece where the blade touches on each side!! BTW, I bought a Vintage 1966 Slim Adjustable on Ebay for $US50 including overseas postage, so not so cheap these days, but seems like a good razor to have, being adjustable and not as expensive as a Merkur progress or Parker Variant. Was going to go for a Rockwell 6C, but weighing things up, the Slim Adjustable may be better ...

I see folks using vintage razors, but never vintage blades. When I came up, shavingwise, the great innovation was stainless blades, replacing carbon steel as in Gillette Blue Blades etc. (well before cartridge razors). The great thing about stainless was longevity, but they were not perhaps quite as sharp. Wondered if you ever come across vintage blades to go along with vintage razors and how you feel about relative performance. I have not seen anyone do this (using vintage non-stainless blades) on RUclips and was curious about if it might interest you. Thanks, I enjoy watching...

Search out Gatchaman. All will be revealed. That’s one of the things I’ve done.

Hey S.L. Today if Gillette was to remake the old vintage razors and concentrate more on making their money on the razors this time instead of the blades like they did when they first started it was all about the blades back then and not the razors. because back in the day they were mind set on selling the blades and made the price of the razors fairly cheap so people would buy the blades. Today they could join the crowd of selling their remade old vintage razors at competitive prices against sellers like Merker, Parker, Edwin Jagger. Only thing this time around make the D.E./S.E. blades cheaper. Gillette should go back to the OLD STYLE build made of the Brass and heavy duty construction the same way they always did & i bet that they would be back to the Greatness & # 1 RAZOR SELLING COMPANY for another 100 years !!!!

I feel the same way with clothes... I try to buy good quality guaranteed to last, maybe vintage second hand. Can't stand throw-away culture.
