I have stayed at Chalukya eighteen years. I was so sorry to see it, and the restaurants close. I do love the masala dosa and the gobi Manchurian, but I have to say, the gobi is better at the Chinese place in VV Purim, and also the masala dosa at VV Purim is better too, I am sorry to say. I will miss you, Chalukya!
Not sure what you found so good in this dosa. We just had it and really felt like let down both by the product and by your review. Also I feel you have become more camera centric than food centric. Your expressions for these food that you taste have become catchy than the review itself. Coming to the dosa, it was bland. There was no salt both in the dosa and in the masala. The potato was undercooked. would tread careful going forward. Pls don't mislead ppl with clickbait video titles.
Really nice. When I had worked for about four years in a Central Government office in Palace Road, we used to visit Chalukya Samrat frequently for celebrating events like promotion, retirement, transfer or honouring guests from other States. As those visits were mostly during lunch time, we used to order regular North Indian or South Indian thali. But, some times, some of us used to deviate and tempted to order special tasty snacks like Thuppa Dosa. Cannot forget the taste even after 5 years of gap. Though I belong to Hyderabad and settled here, i still remember those days i spent in ನಮ್ಮ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು. ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳು
I miss the Chalukya restaurant in Race course road. They use to give extra butter to me in Dosa ❤️ The cashew in the Palya made the dosa special ❤️Kripal Amanna sir can be best described as," Tuppa King". 😂
17:35 "CONCENTRIC CIRCLES OF THICKNESS AND THINNESS" never seen anyone describing a dish like this only people who are deeply passionate about food can describe this thats our KRIPAL sir. Really hats off to your dedication sir 😊
Dosa is speciality of Bangalore. This quality of brown baked dosa is not available anywhere in India and never in Pune where I stay. I long for this dosa.
Usually we search for Chinese items in such restaurants..By following you I have started ordering benne masala dose wherever I go.. Thank you for giving voice for the indigenous cuisine..
I studied at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan next door, would visit samrat at chalukya after work to enjoy their dose and rave idly before attending class in the evening, i am so glad that they are making a comeback.
Was waiting for you to go to this spot. This was my favourite dosa place growing up, my father used to take me there and i could have 3 at once. Thanks for visiting, brought back fond memories with my dad
Thanks Kripal for bringing my memory live 😀 Once, probably in the early 90s, I & my friends went to have 🍺, went to 3 Aces pub on church street ( now it's closed) , after that, we went to Chalikya Samrat , it was around 8.45 pm, almost closing time, when we went to have dinner ( meals ) , the waiter was kind enough to bring all the food available there including rice , sambar , saaru ( rasam) palya etc... he just told that ' Hotte thumba thinni ' hudugra ...we almost emptied the buckets in minutes.... this kind gesture was an unforgettable experience for us... I tell this to many of my friends even today. Recently, I saw a board of Chalukya Samrat opening at Sobha mall ,Church street, felt very happy... was waiting to open and never knew that mini samrat is functioning... I will try at mini also shortly... Thank you once again...
We finished our tcs world 10K 2022 last may and went to this hotel for breakfast This hotel is famous for its masala dosa and it's a very old hotel so it's a nostalgia for all the 90's kids The hotel was full and we barely got our seats and the dosa was good We ordered a rice item which was also good
Extraordinary explanation so far heard in near time. Seen extreme satisfaction on your face while sipping the sambar and coffee too. Must admire your honest intention. I am dam sure now the people would crave for these dosae again.👌👌🤞
A really engaging video Mr. Kripal. This episode bears testament to the fact that the dosae is truly a versatile vehicle that humbly carries on its crisp surface, a myriad of culinary ideas, while lending each one of them a unique identity of its own. Good luck to you..
Seen the makings of a no. of dosae's here on YT but this one is so so unique. Seen uncooked lumpy sticky batters scraped off the dosa's to make it crispier & wafer thin...but to scrape it off only to incorporate it back on it, to create a sturdier structure, is a first timer for me. That useful tip about the vacuum under the tawa to control the temp, why it takes the time to prepare this beauty, that it does! This is culinary science at its height. All thanks to Sr. Mr. Shanbagh. That smooth firm upper crust of the dosa with the knob of benne slipping and sliding away reminded me of those shakey ice skaters on an ice rink 🙂 Tysm for this gem of an episode.
It's nostalgic to watch this. I have personally witnessed the way how Chanbhag sir used to manage the kitchen. I am proud to say that I have sat with him and had food with him. I was not more than 8 years old when my grandfather used to take me to their kitchen and spend multiple hours chatting with him. Though we were one of their vendors, my grandfather was very close with the founder because their connection started back when he was working in Kamat Group. Chan bhag sir used to personally suggest the dishes for me such as Masala dosa, Rava Idly, hot jamoon and at time rice with rasam. Even Santosh sir was so considerate and kind. Missing those days and wonderful souls. Thanks a ton for bringing the memories and making me to cherish.
Sir, how would you manage your health..?? eating this much carbs how would you manage your cholesterol.. ?? Pls make an video on your health maintenance..
The restaurant was next to MP Birla institute of fundamental Research and evry time we went for a class there we would definitely visit samrat for delicious cutlet and dosae. Now that they opened again we can continue to savour the taste
It’s been a nostalgic trip down the memory lane watching this video. I was a young dental student in the early 1990’s and coming to Samrat hotel/Chalukya twice or thrice a month on a Sunday to have breakfast of their idli-vada with heap loads of coconut chutney and the masala dosa. If memory serves me right, most of the eateries served a dosa for Rs 4 or 5, it was I think cost Rs 17. To me, this dosa is the best dosa in entire south India. Thank you for sharing this Mr Amana. I hope it still exists, and I’d love to visit it when I visit India. ❤❤❤
During 80s this place was always full v tasty dishes and many people will stay at Chalukya hotel to taste these excellent culnery items ,they are Also in sudharsan silk palace opp to Nataraj theatre, may be the same group always full.. THANKS Kripal ji for this Nostalgic moments spent there for more than 4 decades.👍
Chalukya a name to remember. My father used to attend meetings at Institute of Engineers and we used to accompany him from Mangalore only to have ghee masala dosa at "chalukya" !!!!. This was in 60s.In a day 190 comments.!!! Credit goes to chalukya patrons and Kirpal's fans.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I used to have quite a few lunches/breakfasts at the old Chalukya hotel, when working from my office nearby. The tea was also very good and the bearers were kind enough to serve the tea outside in the parking lot in case one fancied chai with sutta. These chairs at the new hotel are also brought over from the old hotel I guess. Ajantha hotel near Trinity is also one such hotel that is quite nostalgic, although their Dosas are of a different type -but certainly a favorite for their simplicity, ambiance and service.
Been following your work for a long time and I would always wonder why Samrat wasn't covered. The dosae at Samrat is my favourite and I wanted to watch your reaction to it. Although the place has changed and I haven't been there I'm glad that it still lives on. Just hope they have maintained the taste too.
Thanks for one more wonderful piece of art for food lovers. Your intro to Chalukya deserved much of your attention from a long time back. Tasted this dose several times and always thought they are experts in spreading chutney Powder evenly throughout the dosa now I know how it is made. craving to visit soonest possible🌋
There are very few restaurants in mumbai serving genuine Mysore masala dosa ,it's always my favourite all my life . Few udipi restaurants around matunga serve reasonably good ones may not be to the level of Bangalore or Karnataka for that matter.
Hands down!! 🙌 With the different makings of a dosa which Bengaluru has got to offer in many iconic culinary eateries, with each dosa having its own USP, Bengaluru can be undoubtedly called as the "Dosa Capital of India"!!
A video where in you are tasting something from the past but taking me into the future. Added to Namma Bengaluru bucket list. Must be tasted in the future. Thanks Kripal Sir!
Sir, another trade mark of this restaurant is Anna sambaar rasam in afternoon hours which they serve with crispy paapad. Finish it with the one of the tastiest jamoon which you can get.😋
I give my scooter for servicing next door @ Value Suzuki always was curious about this place but a bit skeptical because it was always empty but will definitely try it now!
Sir, in 50s my mother used to soak rice for 5 hours & pound it. She used to grind Urdu dhal in grinding stone & mix the pounded rice to the batter & ferment. Olden days they say it is tradition for dosa making.
After a long time Kripal sir have introduced to all of us an xcellent beautiful dosa with full crisp nd roast nd kadak ones...seeing that dosa definitely wanna give a try from hyd to banglore for that dosa only.thank u so much kripal sir.lots of love always 😍😍🤩🤩😍
Kripal this is nostalgia and eating at Chalukya was great occasion back in early 90's where my mom use to work in Telephones and it was a festivity time if you happen to go here and eat the masala dosa. 🙂great memories cherish with Food for thought 🙂 thank you
Nice to know the Chalukya Samrat dosae is your favourite, and also letting us in on your sisters’ top picks too. That’s the wonderful thing about dosae in namma Bengaluru. Everyone can find their favourite.
The story telling is top notch , Kripal can get his viewers to salivate irrespective of the food item.. The amount of ghee that goes in and at the end the butter on top is scary. This dosa is not for the ' faint hearted ' pun intended .
I have had this dose eons ago in Chalukya Hotel. It was recommended by my cousin who was very appreciative of this dose. But since I was young then I mistook this for yet another masala dose. After watching this video, clearly I am wrong. Will give Mini Samrat Chalukya a shot when I get the time.

Focus on the poor fellow’s work instead
That smearing of butter over the dosae and digging into it was an art film in itself!
We finished our tcs world 10K 2022 last may and went to this hotel for breakfast

Kripal made the Dosae come alive with his words.. Dosae is 'Paapa', Dosae is well mannered.. 😍
Oh My. Kripal Sir will one day definitely become a brand Ambassador for one of the TUPPA (ghee) brand.
This iconic restaurant was our daily afternoon destin for lunch from 93 to 2007 thanks to it's proximity from jatti motors where I learnt life lesson.
Mouthwatering! So creative.

Kripal sir's excitement when ghee is being slathered onto the dosa is adorable🙈
Interesting to see how dose is made in many different ways. Chalukya style is one and unique among them.
Good to see the old chairs also find a new place at Samrat
Mouth watering 😋 super....dosa lover✋️
Really miss this establishment.. they were serving one of the best Masale dose’s in Bangalore ..glad they have started the mini samrat 🙂
College most fond memories were spent at samrat chalukya with friends❤️ Undoubtedly one of the best and underated dosae of Bangalore!
