I agree. This was our first Christmas separated from my husband’s and my families. Toxic, spiritually abusive families who profess to be Christians. They were actively against us pursuing what God had for us, because it goes against what they want. Let’s pray that God can keep us strong in His plans for us ❤️‍🩹🙏🏻

This is mind blowing to hear. At the time that this was posted, i had to make the conscious decision to walk away from my parent’s. My daughter being my priority to keep her safe from mental abuse. Ive been feeling very guilty and over the passed 3 months thought of my parents, thinking i should make contact.
This sermon has and will be what set me free from this.
Going through a divorce where the family are all Christian, Pastor dad. I wont say more, but this has also set me free in this area.
God is so good, protecting me from what i could not see, sure it was traumatic and hurt. But now i know why.
    Praise God

The joy of the Lord d is our strength. Keep our eyes on Jesus for perfect peace. Few have been delivered up to die on the cross for our faith. It’s always spiritual ❤

I was praying to God to help me with my toxic sister who is 70 yo & I am 64 yo, trying to escape our enmeshment & her entitlement that I should still be there for her financially, since she did not save for retirement. She caused so much toxicity with her children, our mother, and myself. I wanna cut her out of my life (God’s way) and was struggling how to do it. Thank you for this episode!!!!

I've had my fill for sure. Ever noticed that people who are relatives use that relationship to be abusive. They feel ENTITLED to a lifelong pass. Not going to keep going on. Life is hard enough without people who're supposed to be something to you trying to destroy your life. I'm good just staying to myself. Messy, foolish people I don't' tolerate well.

From Colorado. After 18 years we found a peaceful way to gather at Christmas. Eating Christmas dinner at a restaurant due to a powerful covert narcissistic daughter-in-law. It works great for our enabling son who still loves as family. This only happened after I was in counseling for being abused by our daughter in law.

I separated myself from my family. They have caused me more pain than joy. I used to always give them passes but I realize I can love them from afar. I’ve always sacrificed and supported them. They have never done the same for me. Even as a child I was told I didn’t deserve what I got and I was bad. I’ve grown up with horrible self esteem because of it. I am still not good but at least I can find my peace alone on my own terms. Focus on the Lord he will give you strength even on your own.

For me, the most important aspect of this sermon is when he talks about "enmeshment" with family and how it affects your marriage. The re-prioritization MUST happen once you get married and the son or daughter is the only person who can do that. Most parents are not going to do it. They are going to attempt to keep it a "parent/child" relationship for as long as they can and a spouse will become extremely resentful. When you marry, you must tell your parents that your spouse has now become your priority. You must tell your parents that your spouse has not joined THEIR family where they are "the boss". You and your spouse have "leaved and cleaved" and created your own separate "nuclear family" where you both are the matriarch and patriarch of your own family. It's so important to tell your parents this, because if you do not, they are going to hope that you lack understanding about the biblical commandments for marriage (leave and cleave, forsake all others, let no man put asunder). They are going to feign ignorance about how marriage (for Christians) is supposed to work. They are going to assume an "authority" position within your marriage and with your spouse and this is going to cause horrendous problems. There needs to be a huge "STOP" sign placed in front of them immediately after you get married. Protect your marriage and nuclear family at all costs. Don't expect your now "extended" family to naturally back off and have boundaries. They. Will. Not. Instead, YOU need to set firm boundaries with them . Mothers are supposed to "release" their son's to their new wife in marriage. Mother is supposed to "pass the baton" so to speak and respectfully take a step back and show trust that her son's wife is competent and capable. She is not to "meddle" in their marital matters or try to "compete" for her son's time and attention. It's about respect. It's about understanding your role. Your position and your responsibility within a family.

We are on the brink of divorce because my husband will not cut his parents off. I would never ask my spouse to cut his parents off unless they were extremely toxic and his is. In one of our wedding pictures, his mom is holding onto his arm… everyone has their arm around their own spouse… But his mom has her arm around her son - my husband.

I completely agree and understand. I’ve watched several videos regarding these situations. But there’s one thing that hasn’t been talked about.
What if there is a parent that actually needs to be under same roof due to age, health etc. Doesn’t try to boss or interfere personally in their relationship. Works, pays bills (contributing) and the couple (one is their child) the couple treats behaves starts problems not the parent. What & how do you do?? The parent keeps to themselves. Doesn’t interfere personally or otherwise and the couple tries to gaslights the parent and they constantly treating the parent in a bad way? The parent cannot afford to be on their own. It’s an unnecessary game of game’s CONTROL SO OVERBEARING.
( from the children ) It would be awesome to hear a teaching on this aspect of the spectrum. Many blessings

Thank you pastor Mark for this series! Been a blessing! What I'm trying to figure out is what do you do when your wife is the domineering, toxic narcissist destroying the marriage? If she doesn't take rebuke or listen to counseling, anything said is twisted and turned against you and to her whole family she portrays you as some abusive monster. As if she just bored and wants to feed on drama that she creates in her own mind. Just at a complete dead end trying to save my marriage but the devil is at full force trying to destroy it.

    • @ladennayoung2939

Have you fast and prayed about this? One thing I learned is that God did create marriage. I believe that GOD values the sanctity of marriage. But even in marriage we are to worship, honor, glorify Him and Him alone, AND PUT HIM FIRST IN JESUS' NAME. HE is still supposed to be Lord of and over that marriage. GOD doesn't want us idolizing marriage or our spouses whatsoever in any fashion, shape, or form. It is imperative that you choose to develop a relationship with Christ for yourself and get to know Jesus for yourself. It is imperative that you get to know God's voice for yourself and follow HIS lead. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD. NOTHING IS TO HARD FOR GOD. IF SOMETHING IS MEANT TO BE IN YOUR LIFE EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO FULLY RELEASE IT OVER TO GOD. IT WILL RETURN AND IT WILL BE BETTER TO AND FOR YOU IN JESUS' NAME IN THE LONG RUN.

This is good, but I would also add, a lot of us are single and need to cut off, not based on marriage relationships. Sometimes it is siblings or friends. Not because of protecting children or future generations, but it is just a bad influence. Single people apply these rules to your life as well. The worst is when they try and weaponize your faith...if you were a real Christian you would...insert controlling idea here.....or if you loved me, you would allow me to....if you loved me you would give me money because...if you loved your nephew you would give me money because....I guess I am more mature and emotionally stable because I can give this horrible thing I am doing to your life a pass because we are family. I have been through it all...the worst are the ones who embrace the evil....I just had to walk away. Put a period and move on and follow the path of peace. Sometimes God gives you a family that are not connected by DNA.

In July 2014 after 1 year of marriage my then wife abandoned me because of my in laws. Her family was and are extremely toxic and controlling. Fast forward to July 1, 2023 and she abandoned me and our two kids this time after 10 years of marriage. It was our daughter’s 8th birthday so it was a mess. This time again her family was egging her on but she also made friends with this super toxic people. The woman in the family is a witch that you would think is the actual embodiment of Jezebel. The woman’s husband is a spineless Ahab. Her children are the definition of dysfunction. My soon to be ex wife had been having an affair with the ladies son apparently. This kid isn’t a man. He doesn’t work but lives with his mom and has never worked. He’s almost 30 and she left us for that family after knowing them for not even a year. They’re really into witchcraft and the sovereign citizen movement which is basically an anarchist movement.
I will never take her back after all of this. Learn from me. They will hurt you again. This time my children are hurt. Last time I only had to hurt. Protect your kids!! A snake always sheds its skin and only comes back bigger and worse.

I respectfully disagree. God can and does change people. But they have to be willing to change. Does not mean you have to take her back (which she will want eventually, I can almost guarantee you,) but it means don’t let this harden your heart. Pray for her, pray a hedge of protection around her, for you children, if nothing else. She is their mom. Forgive her so you can heal and if it’s God’s will, reconcile. If not, God has a plan. 🙏🏼

Listen, since watching a few of these I have felt something was off in this teaching. I don’t think it is completely biblical. What does God tell us in his word? We are to be servants. To love one another. To be forgiving. How many times? Unending times. Should a man leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife? Yes, but not to the exclusion of the rest of their families. If there are normal problems, they should be dealt with. Talk, go to counseling, do better, move on. Sometimes we must tolerate people we don’t enjoy. Unselfishly.
I’m not talking about abusive, drunk or people on drugs or that use the f word around your kids.
I just think in this age when everyone is so selfish this is a dangerous message.
My ex mother in law was not fun for me, but I would never think in a million years to come between my kids or her and her son. I will not be a wedge.
My mother in law now can be super annoying at times. She irks all of us, but that’s life right? Different personalities. We must have grace and mercy. Forgiveness.
What does the Bible say about a root of bitterness growing inside us? It’s earthly, demonic. It’s not from above. What is from above? It’s first of all peaceable. I could go on, but you get where I’m coming from.

    • @jamimccormack9220

    • @MommyMoniquex5
      @MommyMoniquex5 5 месяцев назад

Yeah, these cases aren’t just a normal case of ‘different personalities’. Healthy people know how to agree to disagree. But unhealthy people will push their opinions, think they’re the only ones who can be right, etc to the point where they are rude, controlling, manipulative, and so on.
This teaching is correct. But that doesn’t mean it counters what you’ve learned. Forgiveness is unlimited - that you are right about. But forgiveness does not equal access. We can forgive the guy who breaks our kids’ leg for fun without inviting him back over for tea, right? Same thing. We can forgive and love our extended family from afar if they’re toxic. It just doesn’t mean we have to invite them over nor be giddy in welcoming them.
My MIL is now cut off completely from us for these reasons.

While I understand this and agree in most circumstances there are some caveats that complicate this matter. For instance after a year of torment from domestic abuse that landed me in the icu with a brain injury, I was going through a hard time to recover through that emotional turmoil. I needed humans there for me. But, my ptsd was too much for my 18 yr old sister to show me an ounce of grace for. Instead she didn’t approach me with the problem she had, instead she waited over a year to tell me she wanted nothing to do with me when I had to move to her city due to trying to regain employment after my injuries. In other words, I was taking a step to live on my own again and take care of myself again and having people around to support and help me is what I needed. Instead, I got to never even get a cordial hello at church. Her husband ran into me in the crowd at church and just stuttered uhhh and ran away. When there are church events at her house, I am not invited. Idk. Doesn’t look like she handled things in the light of Christ in my option, but all is well, the only thing keeping me alive is knowing if I don’t, I go to hell. So. Caveats. When someone is going through something traumatic, i understand if you are not strong enough to be there for them hands on because it is a lot to handle, but i like to think Christians are instructed to be selfless and show grace and mercy. Regardless of if it’s family or not. And when it is family, don’t be shocked when they try to kill themselves. Sorry for the truth. I had nothing to live for. I prayed to die. Consider the caveat.

Ask for more information before making a judgement. When I became saved and shared my faith with my family they rallied against me and made rules about not speaking about religion or politics. They were cruel and attempted to drive a wedge between myself and my adult daughter to keep her from becoming "brainwashed" by Christianity. My wife and I find them difficult to deal with and now we are the ones that are distancing ourselves from them. Five years later, we just pray for them and send them gospel messages when we email. Being cut off works both ways. Sometimes God will allow relationships to be cut off if they're unhealthy, it doesn't always matter which side does the cutting. God bless.

Let them go. Give them space. One of my daughters cut me off, didn't respond to me for 2 years. Now she is suddenly back after having a baby. Give God the time and space to work in their hearts and heal them of their issues. Because adult Christians who cut out other people from their lives are not spiritually mature and only the Holy Spirit can change them, grow them up to learn how to endure other's faults. They truly believe they are spiritually superior to others and have it all together. Give God room to show them they are also sinners and need others to forgive them of their faults. It's very very hard to let go, but let them go.

I’m cut off from two of my children - after a very toxic divorce and my ex left the church and said he does not believe in “that God” anymore. We’d been baptized together and raised our kids in the church. But Satan gets a foot hold and estranges even Christian marriages and families. Does not mean you are the toxic being cut off. The answer is to pray, ask God to convict you of your own sin in the situation, which he will, repent and pray for the other party. People do evil things to the very people they profess to love the most when Satan can get in between them. Generational sin is real and acceptance that people have free will. We can only pray and keep our hearts open and our side of the street clean. If they come back, make sure you’re healthy enough to know how to handle it. I’m so sorry you’re going through it.

Who should be doing the reconciling? We, the Christian. Our unsaved relatives are doing Satan's work. We shouldn't be joining in.
