One can only hope that all the work and heart blood poored into these videos will lead some bloke, somewhere, to realize he always played this game wrong and now finds his path. Impressive work!
Excellent videos. Nice & clear with good set of examples. Really helps to understand how it all plays in real time, which I had been concerned about but less so now :) Thank you for these 👍
Again, congrats for the awesome vid! Some small remarks: - the authors include non playing factions in the faction bord and say explicitly that you can trade with them and even invade them (it is not clear though if their home regions, in this case from the barbarians, should be considered as garrisons and if they would bring VPs) - also for the initiative, the authors use always initiative cards 1-4, independently of the number of players - I know you moved and currently don’t have access to the game, but it would be awesome to know your understanding on naval battles including g the use of ports and also on what happens after a normal (non total) victory and who is retreating and how I am referring g the Simon’s videos on the ccc games site Thank you!
Hey :) Thank you so much for the pointers.. To me it feels better to have actually cards 1-3 for initiative and not 1-4. I can't remember what was written in the rulebook, but in anycase everything here is apparently open for interpretation 😅 If I'm honest, I'm not sure this game will stay in my collection. I'll have to give it one more chance before deciding. If I have the time, I'd be happy to make one more video and put some more information there
I love games like this thankyou for making such a beautiful game. I hope you can sell it. I think older guys like me cannot get into new games like this because we are so used to the old style but i think that kids in their early teens should be introduced to this game asap.
Hi Alex! First of all, this game is not mine :) The designer is Simon Hall.. Second, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you will manage to play it one day 😊
Oh thank you so much! I'm always afraid of mispronouncing different words and grammar mistakes 😅 I appreciate it and glad you found the video helpful 😊
Thank you very much for both videos! I can let it pass. It is a nice adaptation. Maybe somebody will have it and I can play it, but I do not need to own this one. But again...its well done. Nice game. Your videos are great, I also explain games playing it, our brains are eager to learn that way;)
The pleasure is all mine.. I need to play it more before taking decisions haha I appreciate your kind words and absolutely agree that learning while playing is much easier to accept than just dry rule explaining. At least for me ;)
really great video I loved it but I have a little question. what are the dice of the cavalry in the mountains for if they don't fight in it and also since the cavalry only fights between them what are the black bonuses (anti-cavalry of the hoplites) for if they never fight the cavalry. I have another question: if we attack with an army and we win, the army has finished playing like in the video game, that is to say that it can no longer move or it still has 1 or 2 movements after a battle thank you very much and really this video helped me a lot with playing with my friends
Hey Paul! Thanks for watching the video and leaving a comment 😊 In general, I suggest asking question in the Dicord channel of Rome Total War since they are truly professional there, but I'll try to answer to these 2 questions: 1) In the 'Fight for Terrain' phase, you have to send a card to fight. Even if it's not a skirmisher you still have to send one. So this is one of the ways that you might send a cavalry that will use the difficult terrain dice. 2) You can attack as long as you have movement points. Absolutely no problem with that.
Rules Question: Say a region has a value of one for difficult terrain and a battle commences. During the "Fight for Terrain" phase one side dumps all their main battle cards into the combat during this phase and take no damage, then place all those main battle cards under their general which makes them safe. As there are no more "Fight for the Terrain" battle phases can the opponent then roll dice for each of the cards in their hand and try and kill the safe units underneath the general? Or is it automatically a tie?
I'm wondering how it will be possible to spend all of your MBC cards in Fight for Terrain if that value is 1? The units under the general are vulnerable only during this phase (if one side keeps sending units and another side doesn't have anything else). After that those cards under the general are completely safe and if one side is out of cards, that combat will end. Since I am no expert in the game, I highly recommend joining the Discord of this game. The community is. O less than amazing and super helpful
Thanks for your video, I received a copy of the game this week, and you helped me understand a lot. Yesterday we played with friends and we had at some point a question : The terrain had no difficulty, so we skipped the terrain phase, Rome had a majority of infantry and Carthage a majority of cavalry. After a very short fight for the flank (1 round) , we started the fight for the centre. After 2 rounds, Carthage had no more infantry and Rome no more targets. Rome put their remaining infantry cards near the general. Then we started the envelopment phase and Carthage played their cavalry, and with the reroll dice bonus they killed all the intantry near the general. So it was a total victory for Carthage, even with a smaller card pile. Is our interpretation of the rules correct ? Thanks a lot
Hello Ayme! First of all, glad you found the video helpful 😊 Regarding the rules, since it has been a few months from my last time I played, my memory regarding the rules is, to be honest, not the best. The best solution would be to join the Discord and ask your questions, they are super nice and very helpful! I just don't want to give an answer I'm unsure of and confuse you even more. I apologize..
Excellent explanations, thank you for the videos. I have a small question please: When using the Disease card, if we remove a battle card and after that, there is only one left in the opposing army. Is the entire army immediately defeated?
Yes. An army has to have a minimum number of Main Battle Cards. It's punishing, I agree 😅 Thank you very much for the comment and the positive feedback :)
I’m still confused what “stacking cards” means when fighting for the terrain. Can I send two cards out, a main battle card as long as it’s with a skirmisher? How does that affect the battle? Do injured units not fight back at all? The instruction manual feels very unclear on a several of the mechanics.
The rulebook is simply not good. I did this video thanks to the help of the amazing community on the Discord. From what I remember, you can send 2 cards, yes. If the other side sent also only one skirmisher, then the skirmishers will fight each other and that's it. The Main Battle Card will not have an effect. Injured units don't fight at all.
Can I be honest? I have zero motivation to check it out. From what I saw, the combat expansion can be kind of played as a stand alone. While I agree that combat seems a bit weirs/complicated, there is some interesting depth there that requires some getting used to. I know it didn't really answer the question. Sorry about that. But truly I don't see myself checking it out any time soon.
