Yeah! Exactly!! It was just too much of a hustle for me.. and maybe I should have made more of an effort with the solo options, but I felt like this game is more of a multi-player. I've played with the idea of re-buying the core box, but I think that this is basically where I'm drawing the line regarding asymmetrical factions: we can play differently to some degree, but victory condition should stay the same. Tsukuyumi Full Moon Down is a good example of that.

Not sure I understood the Gaia Project thingie..? 😅 And yeah, Era of Tribes is an absolute delight!!

Exactly! So every time a token goes down you get a ban FOR THAT TOKEN. The others are reset. If a token gets to the bottom most position, the ban will stay until you move it up. Glad you found this video helpful 😊

I'll have to politely disagree.. From the rulebook, page 15, number 3: "Place the Notebook tile banner side down into the leftmost vacant space of ANY ROW on your player board. If the chosen vacant space shows the *insert here the icon* you must have cured the appropriate number of Clients to place there. 1st icon you cover- 0 Clients Cured" So since this is the first time I'm covering an icon, I still don't need to cure any clients. So maybe there was an Errata that I'm unaware of, but this is from the rulebook 😊 I hope it helps :)

To be honest I've never played the 2nd edition.. I was pretty sure you could buy the 2nd edition and play with 1st edition rules.

That's totally a legit thought. I'd say most, if not all board games are more complicated to operate than their PC version since in the PC it's not you who's doing the heavy lifting and you are onky being left with the fun part which is the decision making. But board games are board games ;) In general, I'm not a hype-man. I couldn't care less about new titles coming out. In this case, it was awesome to share the excitement regarding a new 4X game that is coming out and is much more streamlined next to other similar titles out there. Personally, I've never played MoO on PC

Hello! :) Well, it has been a while since I played this, so I can't remember exactly the reason, but from memory- you start combat only with the cards that you can actually use. Other than that, there is no limit to how many cards you can start the combat with.

I'm in the same boat as you- I've also pledged for the game to the fullest. While I agree that updates are very important, I think Bad Crow Games have proven that they keep the lines of communication quite open. Rudy, the community manager and Bryan the designer are extremely responsive on the Discord of CoH. From what I saw and understand, they're probably waiting for some information before releasing an update. As I've said in the video (not sure if you've watched it), this is a review copy. So I didn't really 'get the game' 😊 Adam from Weekly Game Night received the same copy I had after I finished these 2 videos. It's the same one. Hope that helps 😊

If I'm honest, I wouldn't get this game unless it's for 3 or 4 players. The 'problem' with playing solo 2 handed is the Rune stones that under some of them you have the real ones and some are fake. So it's very difficult to almost impossible to play this solo 2 handed. The game itself is amazing and I like it A LOT! But even at 2 players I'm not sure I would have played it.

@@ezbgames would it be possible to randomly shuffle these rune stones so no faction would really know where the real ones or fake ones are? :) How about also randomly drawing order cards? I'm just curious how to tweak this game somehow.

Usually I'm a positive guy! Haha But this time I just don't see it happen. I'd say the best thing you can try is ask on the BGG forums and see what comes up.. If you do find something, let me know 😊😊

I felt that the unbalanced tiles that you might have when exploring is not so great.. But I agree that the solo mode might make or break the game

I have to admit that I've never played the PC game, but I went all-in as well. I recently re-discovered how much I love playing solo (thanks to Frostpunk) and I hope this will have a good streamlined solo mode

Oooff that's a tough one.. 1) Fractal is a game I have to bring back to the table. I feel like there's something there I'm missing. 2) from what I remember, I wouldn't really compare the two. For starting, Fractal doesn't have diplomacy, and in MoO it's a bit part. Population doesn't exist in Fractal. Combat in Fractal is probably my favorite aspect, I just LOVE combat with cards! MoO has a tech tree that doesn't exist in Fractal. So I would say that both have a place in a collection.. I hope that helped 😊

I'm guessing (not saying that this is the case) that if you're not a HUGE fan of 4X, you might not need multiple 4X space-themed games in your collection. In my opinion and for me, there is a place for both

Hard to say since I never really went into TI4 So very briefly: Totally different than Voidfall. That's to start with. Empires of the Void wasn't really to my liking. Eclipse is much more euro than Master of Orion. In general, if you're okay with the length of TI4, in all honesty I'm not sure you need this in your collection. I think they were aiming for a game that will be 75% of the time it takes to play TI4. But the best answer I can give you- I don't know yet. I'd have to get the game in its final version and play it to give a serious review. I hope that's okay 😊

@@ezbgames You had me at 75% less time then TI4. But then If i want a shorter 4X game then Last Light is amazingly fast and satisfying. This could be a happy medium?

So from Rudy, the community manager- it is possible since the rulebook states that YOU CHOOSE the retreat point and it can even change between rounds. It might be a bit 'dirty' but totally legal 😉 Great question and if I may add also very smart. Nice!!

@@ezbgames Thank you very much for the answer and the kind words 😉 We already had this discussion in our playgroup during the first edition of the game. Also what happens when the major is moved after units have been committed to it to retreat. I had hoped that this would somehow be restricted by rules in the new edition^^ But by allowing the retreat point to be changed even between turns, the major becomes even more powerful because he can move without losing his retreat point ability. So everyone can run after him🤣

So basically you're right, but the thing is that you can onky have one major. So while he's powerful, you can only have one. So far so good :) And since you don't need to commit to a retreat point (it can change between rounds) yes units can run after him, but in this case I'm not sure that will be the best use of resources. Especially since retreating units can't basically do anything. You know what I mean? In my (humble) opinion, if you have a unit in a retreat mode for more than one round, maybe something went wrong. If you have a few units that do it- not sure it's the best strategy. Then again, maybe in extreme situations it's not a bad thing to do

​@@ezbgames I think the basic idea behind the Major is to have a fallback point just behind the front line to get the recovered units back into action quickly. I love the Major in this role :) The main problem I see is the “dirty” tactics that the current rules allow. Because you can move up to 6 hexes when retreating and any unit (even the one you didn't spend an action point on) can retreat. This, combined with the ability to “retreat” new units directly to the major at the front, makes it possible to get new recruits to one side of the front very quickly without using action points.

Not surprises there though ;) I think you're absolutely right and I even see Endless Winter being sold dirt cheap in the 2nd hand market relatively to the cost of the KS. Beautiful production, but sometimes just not practical. The expansion will probably stay unplayed with my copy. I don't think there's a need for it.. modules are okay, nice for the replayability. This game unfortunately, while being good in general, doesn't justify (again, for me) the dekuxe version.

@ezbgames It was the best "make time pass without realizing it" solo mode of 2024. A definite keeper for my collection. What I have to say, the deluxe version is cumbersome and really unnecessary. Would be perfectly happy with the standard version. Also, the holo cards can quickly become annoying with the wrong light setup.

Funny that you said it about the deluxe version because that's what I said +/- in the review. The only thing I liked there is the Inkpot. But the rest? I would prefer actually the meeples and normal components. For the solo cards, honestly I didn't have such a problem with them

@@ezbgames I have strong overhead lights that shine onto the table at an angle to reduce glare on card sleeves and somehow this makes the holo cards sparkle like crazy.

Ahhh I thought you talked about the small cards of the solo mode- the Meeting Table cards. Gor the hollow cards I've also said the same- no need for them. Would have preferred normal cards. Especially because I think the art is super cool

You can absolutely play it solo, but I think it needs the solo pack. I've played the 1ed solo a few times.
