    This helped so much. My cockatiel broke a blood feather on her wing and this is how I was able to properly handle it.

    Great info Courtney! I wish I had seen this when “Buddy” had a broken leg. I had to handle him multiple times and it was a fight each time.

    With my extremely strong and aggressive ( biting) budgie, if I must restrain her, I take a medium size piece of newspaper to grab her. Then, instead of holding her on the sides of the neck, I have two fingers on each side of her cheek bones ( while being cautious with her chest area). Very helpful topic, great that you cautioned how hands natural oils can affect their feathers.

      if she doesn't like the newspaper (because it's crinkly or whatever) you could also use a napkin or facecloth the same way.

    This helps a lot cause my cockatiel hates having her nails trimmed

    • @tzxazrael
      @tzxazrael 4 года назад +4

      you can also try things like desensitizing her to a nail file, so that you can spend a few minutes a day/week giving her a small trim, rather than having to clip them down semi-regularly.

      you can buy sanding perches and place them toward the bottem of the cage.

    • @wheresthehonorofgrayskull2249
      @wheresthehonorofgrayskull2249 3 года назад +4

      @@Royal.Angel. Be careful with sand perches though. They can give your birds sore and cuts on the bottom of their feet. If you’re going to get any sand perches, make sure it’s only sandy on the sides to prevent injury.

    thanks for the tips! I'm still very nervous about holding my parrotlet because i'm worried i'm holding him too hard...also how do i know how much a parrotlet's neck will stretch without hurting him? I haven't been successful at holding him like how you do in the video :/

    • @derind9191
      @derind9191 3 года назад +1

      Stretch it as far as it will go without pulling hard. It will go to a point and stop.

    Hello I enjoy your flock talk about the different parrots it's very educational. I have a parrotlet male parrotlet and he's very picky eater he is no interest and no fruit he won't eat any type of fruit that's in a fruit market that's been washed off if course or any produce I tried every produce in every fruit possible and he won't eat them he only wants to eat certain seeds and I only eat this hanging stick of candy when I cut back on his regular cds' a lot but I don't want him to lose weight so that's a concern to me I buy the suite seeds that are on the branches at the pet store As a treat that you hang with a clip and he seems to like these white seed the small white seeds you seem to enjoy them and the big black seeds the most but he will not eat anything else which is very unusual I've had parrots before African Greys Blue Front Amazon canoe and manure. They all loved fruits and vegetables so it's very surprising that this little parrot does not want to eat no boiled egg hard-boiled egg white yolk yellow Yoki don't care I'm very surprised that is so picky about his eating habits I got it from very young age it was eight months old I bought them from a breeder what have you to say or suggest about him thank you for your time and keep up the good work. Fred,

    Nope. Mu parakeer Waldo hates being touched when not on his terms. He normally is fire with being held, but not his feet. Last time I tried to cut his nails, I used the first position to hold him, he freaked out, was fighting, then jerked back and I cut too short. That ended with a lot of corn starch and Waldo screaming like we tried to kill him.

    Hey! So, I’m looking for some advice for my birds, so if anyone could help, that would be AMAZING!!!!👍😁😊So, I have four parakeets that are living in a VERY large flight cage. Two of which are newly introduced, because I recently rescued them from an owner who no longer wanted them. So the problem is, occasionally throughout the day, they have begun to pick on one of the birds in the cage, and also just pick on each other in general. I have tried separating them before because I do not want them to get hurt or have food taken from each other, but as soon as I separate them, they CONSTANTLY try to get back to each other, and when I open the cage, they fly right back to each other. So, is anything else I can do to prevent this? I have made sure there is plenty of food and a bowl of food and water for everyone. There is also many toys and activities to keep them busy. So, any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! I just want the best for my birds, because I love them all SOOOO much!!!! Thank you!!!!👍😁😊🦜🦜🦜🦜

      You could try and slowly separate them. My conures did something similar but if you slowly separate them that may work

    Thank you for this video. Both my cockatiel and parrotlet are on medications starting a few days ago. This has greatly been preferred over toweling them. My cockatiel screams less using this grip (I still have to throw a small towel over her and wear cloth gloves). My baby parrotlet while not a fan of the hand reaching over her, she is calm in the grip and goes about her day afterwards with no trauma (and not resentful of me, most importantly!).
