    Butler's such a smart, perceptive defender that studies his opponent's tendencies/habits. Not to mention that he moves his feet (stays in front of his man) exceptionally well. Really blossoming into a terrific player.

    What makes J. Butler a great defender is how he uses his body to it's full potential. He has great length and size so he always can get close and stop his opponent from moving easily. If his offense was more consistent, I think he could be a All-Star.

    Ok so LeBron averaged like 24 points in this series. Do you realize that he shot 45% against the bulls? Jimmy was really playing great defense on him. LeBron is usually shooting around the 60% range so you can say that the Bulls defense really gave him trouble.

    Now butler a better perimeter defender. He is going to guard LeBron, he wants it and he more mature! Good match up 2020. If he could guard prime LeBron, cant imagine now.

    If I was LeBron's coach, I would've been upset with him over that first play. You don't stop playing and complain about being fouled to the Ref! You keep on playing through, regardless of whether the foul is called or not. On that pick in the corner, he could've trapped him and maybe gotten a steal...

    47% from the field, 34% from beyond the arc. 2.7 to per game
    this guy really can defend.

    his defense and athleticism is outstanding. If he develops a consistent jumper, there is nothing wrong with assuming he can be an all-star or the 2nd option the Bulls have long desired.
    There have been games where his defense and hustle single handedly gave us the momentum to win the game, like the game against Miami (their 27 game streak) where he made 2 consistent steals and that brought us back into the game.

  • @TheLogan1156

    It's not a matter of being lazy or not being lazy, Jimmy is just better at defending LeBron than anyone else in the world. Jimmy promised to defend LeBron and Kobe better than anybody in the NBA when he came in the league, and he wasn't lying.

  • @kidkiko31697
    @kidkiko31697 11 лет назад

    The way Thibs runs the defense is called no middle which is forcing the opponent towards the sidelines and forcing them to shoot midranges and threes which are less efficient than the postgame. If they do go towards the middle there is help defense already set aka Booz and Jo. If you watch Jimmy's foot placement you see that its placed to try to keep the no middle rule running.

  • @Quagmire97
    @Quagmire97 11 лет назад

    no one is saying that. They are just saying he has the potential this year to reach that. I could see him averaging 15 points this season tbh.

  • @KaminariKatta

    Butler probably bothers Lebron more because of his quickness and overall length..rather than deng, deng would just give lebron as much space as possible and dare him to shoot over him..this worked in his cleveland days but not now..lebron is a POINT FORWARD...a combo between point guard and a forward.
    The best way to defend is to give him as little space as possible,yet doing so while preventing him from driving past you.Butler does this the best.
    Lebron had his FG % increased from fast breaks

    i am not lebron's hater(i think he is the best the last 4 years) but i watch bulter keep lebron in 23p and 44fg% and then i watch a video of old,injured and not prime larry bird dominating scottie pippen!i am sorry but bird was much better than lebron....larry avg 26p-8-7 and 51fg% against one of the best perimeter defender ever from 1988-1992 in 15 games!

    • @imsljr420

      +Andreas GR Lebron is amazing.But most of that is his size.He has an advantage every.single.night.Just stronger,faster and bigger than anyone that guards him.Statisticallt yes Lebron is better than Bird but when its time to show up Larry performed better.

    • @andreasgr1740
      @andreasgr1740 8 лет назад

      Sahil Pawar well i think that even statistically Bird in his prime avg 27-10-7 and Lebron avg 28-7-7 or something but he is still in his prime while Bird play until 36-37 and his stats dropped...the same would happen with Lebron as he get older!

    • @SahilPawar95
      @SahilPawar95 8 лет назад +1

      Andreas GR I think its 24-6-10 and Lebron is 27-7-7,pretty much even but Bird did it on skills and Lebron as smart as he is has an enormous physical advantage.

  • @ChaosAtlas01
    @ChaosAtlas01 11 лет назад

    I think it goes back to what an NBA TV Analyst named Jalen Rose said: you are what your skill set is. That's why jordan, pippen, kobe, etc. bring the ball up and make plays instead of the point guard because they are good or better ball handlers. Or in the case of Jordan, kobe and lebron, they bring the ball up, then they get doubled and kick it to an open teammate. Also, paxson and armstrong were shooters more than the primary ball handler

  • @gemini061692

    Butler and Gibson are the 2 that bulls fans need to keep their eyes on. Butler is constantly AND consistently getting better and we know Gibson is very good defensively and offensively but he kinda feel off (a little) but I think he will be focused and ready this season. We want that championship and we know what rose can do and we know Noah will work hard.

  • @booleanmaster

    The best game that Lebron had against the Bulls was after the Heat lost game 1. He came out killing Butler in game 2. He could have dropped 50 if it wasn't such a blow out.
    I need to see Lebron get shut down for an entire series, with the other team winning the series. Then I'll qualify it as a "shut down." He plays his best when you push him against a wall.

    Butler did a good job at stopping Lebron from penetrating to the hoop. Lebron doesnt usually crossover or he cant really break you down off of the dribble. Best and most effective way to guard Lebron is to give him the Rajon Rondo treatment and dare him to shoot. Some days he's on some days he's off but I'd rather that then him being more efficient under the basket.

    im coming back in 2 1/2 months (actually a little bit more) when the regular season starts & Bulls have kirk & rose in the back court...thibs said he loves how hinrich runs the offense so im guessing he'll keep him as a starter & then obviously rose being who he is will be a starter.

    lebron shot 45% in the finals and they still won. The heat can brace lebron shooting a low % as long as he is aggressive from what i have witnessed. Although... Jimmy did the best job on lebron easily. However, the bulls scheme was also the best guarding lebron. People need to give jimmy credit regardless... jimmy defended some of the best this yr at a very high level.

  • @gorrow1990
    @gorrow1990 9 лет назад

    Could you make highlights from his defense against LeBron from the 2015 series? Butler is a great defender. Problem is, LeBron is much smarter than he was when the Spurs and Celtics first exploited his lack of a reliable jump shot. Now he'll find the open man or go to the rim when his jumper isn't falling. Butler did the best he could against a player like LeBron in both series, but you can only keep a guy off his game for so long.

  • @JeezPeez86
    @JeezPeez86 11 лет назад

    the way to shut james down is to have him disappear from parts of the game meaning deny him opportunities to get the ball and to make him an shooter spurs had the best formula on james i believe bulls should use that methods because they have way more athletic players than spurs do and they really get under the heat skin

    If there is a guy in the NBA to contain Lebron James, it would be Jimmy Butler. Not only does he cause Lebron to miss shots, but he's one of the few people that are willing to body up Lebron and pressure him.

    That's just good defense. Jimmy was exaggerating contact. If he hadn't, the foul wouldn't have been called. There was a foul, though. A flop is when you draw a foul for something that wasn't really a foul.

  • @jakesmith8435
    @jakesmith8435 11 лет назад

  • @tbanks77
    @tbanks77 11 лет назад

    The Bulls did a great job on Lebron as a team. But the only time he felt threatened by the Bulls was after losing game 1. Then he came out killing in game 2. He could have scored 50 if it wasn't for the blow out.
    When it's winning time, Lebron plays his best. The evidence is clear after his back to back titles. So when you can check Lebron for an entire series and beat his team, then you can say you shut him down.

    If Thibodeau loves the way Hinrich runs the offense so much why isn't he starting? I think Thibodeau knows what he's doing more than you do. Yeah Kirk is a good defender but Rose has improved a lot defensively under the coaching of Thibodeau. And I doubt that Hinrich did that much effect on Rose like you are overstating. The only player I've seen Hinrich shut down is Deron Williams in this years playoffs. And I prefer having Butler defend SG like Kobe Bryant and D Wade and have Rose defend PG

  • @imsljr420
    @imsljr420 11 лет назад

    continuing: lebron isn't a PG & look how many assist he gets...rose can play SG & still be the play maker...i just think there is so much talent at PG now that i think hinrich should guard them so rose can save his energy for offense...& hinrich can keep fast players like rose (when they weren't teammates),rondo, westbrook, parker in front of him.

    @imsljr420 11 лет назад

    ok so maybe im wrong about rose playing SG, but since when do teams or players play their position? isn't it the pg that brings the ball up & sets up plays? then why would jordan or pippen bring it up & not paxson or armstrong...kobe, odom bring up the ball not fisher, lebron brings up the ball not chalmers..rose can play SG & still bring the ball up & set up plays while hinrich guards the SG or they can switch, kirk brings the ball up & call out plays (cuz thibs likes how he runs the offense)

    Nope. Help defense helped buter a lot. Deng is a much better defender on lebron as he doesn't force the help defense to bail him out as much or play more aggressive causing the bulls defense to rotate out of position.

    This is the reason the BULLS will shock the world and beat the HEAT. Drose has never played with a athletic wing like BUTLER and the addition of rose alone will have the BULLS win there 7th title.

    Lebron shot 12% less and 4 TO in that series than he did in the regular season???! If 12% less doesnt qaulify as "shut down", what does?
    the heat rely on lebron shooting such a high %, 44% isnt terrible for other teams but it is for the heat.

    top10 in the history? 'Greatest' players should not be eaily defensed by very young defenders like bulter and leonard. Mj, kobe, shaq, td never have troubles when they meet young defenders. And some guys tell us lbj can compare with those four 'greatest' players? Ridiculous!

      butler did the same to kobe dummy.

    Best way to guard Lebron is if you have quick feet play as close to him as possible without fouling as jimmy Butler was doing or play him like Rajon Rondo and backup anticipating the drive and make Lebron a jumpshooter .. (of course you dont back up as much farther Lebron as you do Rondo lol)

    The sad part about it is that some if these shots we're wide open. Lebron just sucks at jump shots so bad he just missed them.

    how the fuck do you expect the Bulls to win that series with no Rose, Hinrich or Deng like really?

  • @cirilomex92
    @cirilomex92 10 лет назад +4

    This is hardly any defense from Butler, LeBron just missed open jumpers, got bad passes from teammates, and the bulls interior defense deflected his passes. But of course lets hype this guys up.

      A good defender does not necessary need steals, blocks and rebound to defend. Sometimes wearing out a opponent's stamina and force tough shot are also part of defence. He could be the best right after Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Gary Payton. He could play 48min game, with such stamina, and defense skills, Jimmy Butler has huge potential. However I wish to see more on his offence skill.

      How many shots were contested and how many times did he cut off lebron from going to the rim. Defense is about making the attacker take the toughest shots and almost 90% were off contested shots where lebron had to work for them yet still misses.

  • @Gurpreet25
    @Gurpreet25 11 лет назад

    The title is so misleading. You can see the defense is all thibs. Look at the extra defensive help on lebron james. Quite sad that bulls fans don't even realize how great of a coach they have. The guy is revolutionizing basketball and they attribute it to butler. How sad.

    jimmy is a great defender no doubt but look at the rest of the bulls and the attention given to lebron its team defense that is the strength of bulls you must be crazy if you think butler and guard lebron 1 on 1

      Same thing with Lebron gaurding Rose in 2011 playoffs, since Korver was cold and the Bulls had no 3 point shooters to space the floor.

    your so wrong every article and interview I've read has said that jimmy WILL be the starting SG, id delete that comment if i were you because everyone knows hinrich will be coming off the bench and we might have to laugh at you sir

  • @imsljr420
    @imsljr420 11 лет назад

    #1 you must not watch the Bulls play, hinrich is an excellent defender ( was better than rose when he 1st started & probably still a better defender) coach thibodeau likes how kirk runs the offense.
    #2 when do players play their position? rose can play SG but bring the ball up like a PG...lebron is a SF & he plays like a PG..rose & hinrich can take turns bringing the ball up.

  • @imsljr420
    @imsljr420 11 лет назад

    well speaking of kobe & wade, kirk also does a great job on them so if Bulls play a team like miami kirk can defend wade & rose can take chalmers..did you see that play where wade stole the ball from kirk & kirk didn't let him score? wade tried to take kirk & kirk forced him into a tough shot..he's held kobe to 43% or less shooting several times.
    I do agree that rose has improved as a defender, I remember i hated him as a rookie cuz he looked confused as to who he was guarding.

    Well when you have subpar, inconsistent play makers point guards like a Kirk Hinrich or a Mario Chalmers then of course you have to give the ball to your best decision maker. But in the case you have a Derrick Rose running the show, you let him make whatever decision he wants. My point is I would rather have Rose running my team than Hinrich any day. Oh and the Jordan and Pippen thing, of course they had to handle the ball themselves. Or do you think John Paxson or Bj Armstrong were better?

  • @rps121
    @rps121 11 лет назад

    He needs the ball in his hands to be effective, he is becoming a better decision maker, already is a good distributer and after 5 to 6 years of playing PG you think he can adapt to just shooting the ball at SG while having a subpar PG like Hinrich at starter? Go smoke a joint somewhere else bro.

    Wow and people compare him to jordan? Smh in jordans era he was being doubled, tripled and sometimes 4 defenders are stopping him because he is that great! And he still manages to finish at the rim! 90's are a much more physical era than today, if the present chicago bulls and jimmy buttler can lock down lebron, then the old bulls would shut him down completely! if lebron plays sg, he'll be guarded by the greatest ever mj who is a very defensive player, can steal the ball if lebrons slacking off, he could block his shots especially with that hangtime, and intercept the ball in the passing lane, if he plays sf he'll be guarded by pippen who is a star stopper he can steal, lock you down, block your shots, and intimidate you with his long arms, and can guard all 4 positions easily sometimes 5, if he tries to play pf, we all know rodman would shut him down completely, he'd be so physical lebron would cry, he would out rebound him in the post! the best position for james if he played in the 90's era would be point guard lol.

      put jimmy butler on his ass too and the same result will happen. Note: Jordan wasn't matched up with people physically capable of guarding him jimmy butler, kwahi leonard, and LeBron are all physically capable of guarding Jordan.

    Sorry but the title is miseading no one has ever been able to guard/shut down LeBron 1-1 this is called TEAM DEFENCE and chicago are the best at it because Tom Thibodeau is the best defensive coach in the NBA.
