Came from Outdoors With The Morgan’s. Thank you for your service.
Welcome, glad you made it 😊
Mike M sent me over, looking forward to your videos as I lived (and miss) in Idaho in the mid 80s.
Here from the Morgans. I'm a Idaho boy, born and raised.
outdoors with the Morgans said you did good videos. I am in southern Idaho. I love it. Idaho is the best state to be in.
That is awesome!
Coming from Mike Morgan's site. Nice video!
Awesome! Thank you!
Me too here from the Morgans!
I own an M813 and would live to be offgrid and living the same dream. This is my first view of your channel. Fun stuff.
Here from the Morgans. Looks good around here.
Mike Morgan sent me. Now I'm subscribed here too. Second episode for me. #1 was your chat with Red Poppy Ranch, and I have watched them for years. Now I have some catching up to do. Enjoy what I see.
Mike Morgan sent me, as an Army Vet myself I came for the M817 video, stayed for the great content!
That Mike is one good guy, I'll have to send him a big thank you
Hello, another one coming over from Mike Morgan's channel!
Glad you made it, we will work on keeping the content new and exciting
I have had a few hours in these back in the day . Way back in the day :-)

Sounds just like my old military recovery truck...Loved the video!
Also heard that Mike liked you and I'm from s e Idaho. Was in the national guard and used the trucks
Found out about your channel from Mike Morgan. Righteous truck!

Thanks for stopping by, we will try and keep the content coming.
Mike from outdoors with the Morgan’s sent me over! Watched a couple of your videos already, looks like good entertainment! Good luck!!
Heard of you from the Morgans. Thank you for your service. I miss driving those. Luckily my trips were under 100 miles. I still want one.
Very cool!
Great truck. I have owned 2 deuces and 2 5 ton M923A2. I just used mine for parades and events. Still in a military vehicle club and help out.
Thank you! It's always great to connect with fellow military vehicle enthusiasts. Keep enjoying those parades and events!
It's built Army tough. I'm sure you're putting it to the test! Thanks for serving our nation.
Good to hear from you, are you guys heading north this summer? any chance you will be in Sandpoint?
@@EssentialMountainHomesteading Can't say at this time. We're really into some projects at our homestead that seems to take all our time and resources. I do try to keep informed by watching your videos and others too. I have been home-bound for a year and it's getting old. I sure hope the economy is good in your area. Stay safe and healthy. See you at your place on video!
That's a nice truck!, they are built really rugged.
Great video love the truck.
Nice👍👍!
From the Morgan’s, nice truck.
Thanks for stopping in.
Mike Morgan sent me over here too , look forward to seeing more videos from you !
We will try and keep the content coming
There’s a guy next to Fruitand Idaho that sells a ton of military equipment off I84 FYI
Found your channel by way of Mike Morgan at Outdoors with the Morgans . Like what you're doing here and like the repurposing of the truck. Check out Dirt Perfect for his recreating of an Army truck into a dump truck, calls it Lt. Dan! Keep it up!
In my experience the steering tires will "cup" the treads if you do not rotate them enough, The tire in the shot early on where the front tire is to your right 0:21+ looks brand new with zero cupping if you were to ask me. Best of days to you and your family Josh !
Mike Morgan rocks 🎸
You could not be more right!
@@EssentialMountainHomesteading you rock 🎸 too mate
Mike Morgan sent me your way... LOL... I have a love hate relationship with those Duse and a half from my Army days!!!! LOL.... Be blessed in Jesus name... BBE...
Uncle Mike is a great guy, thanks for coming over.
I need to trade my Beautiful 4runner in and get a truck like that. And a ladder so I can get in the cab. What a fun vehicle. Come pick me up for a ride....we can hit the Veterans Home in Payson UT. And pile lots of the guys in. Hey, that bed part could hold a lot of wheelchairs with Heros sitting in them, and we could pass out pizza and cokes. Throw the trash on the floor of the bed. I'll sweep it all up later. Seriously...nice truck!
I remember when you got that thing. Didn't you use it to haul those huge boulders on the Utah project?
Mike Morgan referenced your channel. Here checking it out!
I'm glad you stopped in
Mike Morgan sent me!
Glad you made it!
The M-817 are "older" trucks but better. I have an M-925 it has an automatic, get 3 MPG hauling gravel. (as much as I can stack on, pit run, probably like 10 yards.....)
I was sent me a by outdoor with the morgans.. I like your channel .. a lot .. have a great day
Thanks, you too!
When and where were you in Thailand? I was there 2 years 67-68. In Kort, Kanchanabri and Sattahip.
I was over seas in 2009 and 2010
Ooaugh Mike Morgan!!!
MAN TOY
Please check the nameplate for the chassis / engine / cab and advise. If this is gasoline engine, likely much older than 30 years. The dump bed is same as late 1950's in combat engineer companies. Kindly read 'The Damned Engineers" and "Hitler's Adjutant" for the 291st Combat Engineers heroic stand at the battle of the bulge in mid December 1944. Thank you.
The air filter on the left fender and the fact that it is from the M809 series trucks tells you it is a Cummins NHC250 straight six diesel. They were built in the 1970's.
It's an M817 which is apart of the M809 series trucks. They were designed by Kaiser Jeep but built under AM General. The M812's-M820's were produced during 1969-1982.All of them came with the NHC-250's from Cummins. The only yet last five ton trucks with gasoline engines were any of the original M39/M139 series variants. Those trucks had R602's from Continental. The later verisons such as the A1's had Mack ENDT-673's and A2's always had multi fuel engines.
''Dirt Perfect'' is building a dump truck from an old Army(?) truck. Putting a drop axle, adding 5ft and other things to it. Pretty cool. Thumbs up.
We love watching "Dirt Perfect" they are going to have one awesome truck when they get it done.
@@EssentialMountainHomesteading, Great channel, just like yours. Thanks.
I recently bought one and can not figure out how to disable pto ,it runs consistently....i have a lever next to high low range but was told that operated the winch that use to be on the front . Any suggestions?
It sounds like you might need to consult the manual or reach out to the manufacturer for specific instructions on disabling the PTO. They should be able to help you troubleshoot the issue.
I drove a 1984 M-923 from Wenatchee, WA to western SD. 1600 ++ miles Never went thru a scale.
I wish I would have been there with my RUclips camera for that trip
@@EssentialMountainHomesteading It turned into quite an adventure, dodging all the scales. LOL (one more wrinkle at that time I did not have a valid license either)
@@EssentialMountainHomesteading About 6.5 mpg full tilt (62 mph, Super single tires)
That M-923 has super singles and at the governor will make 62mph, and I averaged 6=6.5 mpg, I was also pulling a small van trailer (military admin van, Vietnam vintage)
Mike Morgan sent me over
Uncle Mike is one good guy, I'm glad you made it to the channel
Just wondering if you could recommend a good and reasonable excavating contractor in or around the St. Maries Idaho area. We are looking at buying bare land and just need to be pointed in the right direction as far as finding someone who can excavate. Thank you.
I don't know any of the DIRT guys down there but I would start calling around and meeting people on site and getting bids ASAP.
Is the truck multi fuel??
Late reply, but no this has the Cummins NHC-250.All of the M812's-M820's (The truck in the video is a M817) had Cummins.
The only five ton trucks that actually had multi fuel engines were the M51A2's-M543A2's with most having LDS-465's.
Try buying one of those tires new at a tire shop........15-18 hundred EACH!!!!!! Stick with military surplus....
Those trucks are very "heavy" empty, my dumper weighs almost 26K (empty)
