    Coming from someone who has been around trucks and heavy equipment for over 60 years, this truck would not pass a DOT check and should not be driven on any public roads. I have converted dozens of Deuces and 5 tons from 6x6 to 4x4 and the rear springs on this probably came from a 1 ton military trailer. They are not strong enough or safe to be used on this rig. AXLE TWIST WILL occur. JUST MY TWO CENTS. I
    also spent 4 years in the Marine Corps in Motor Transport and I know these trucks and others well. Semper Fi. 1967-1971.

    Great video! I’ve been working on mine for about three years maybe four and it is an awesome 925A1 with a winch. Hope to see more content! Highly recommend pure silicone grease on the O-ring and I even use it on the beads and valve stem grommet when I’m rebuilding the wheels. I’ve done about four so far and they don’t lose air. I believe the silicone keeps the water off the surfaces. When I took them apart I had to clean RTV off of them and they were rusty in the O-ring grooves. I particularly liked your fuel system cleaning efforts and need to check mine. There is a spin on filter kit that’s a nice upgrade and is on my list.

    @14:17 - Check with your local supplier of fuel nozzles to find something called fuel/water finding paste. You can smear a little bit on a stick then dip the tank. You can very quickly determine if you have fuel/water in the tank and exactly the levels of both. We used to use this to stick the underground storage tanks at fueling stations.

    Um, as a ex mechanic in the Marine Corps, where I would work on these trucks, I have to say your lighter to diesel test isn't valid because diesel isn't AS flammable as gasoline (Higher flash point, you can put a blow torch to it), but it can catch on fire if you try hard enough and it does burn for longer when lit. But it does look like you have some water in that fuel. Other than that, you are pretty spot on on allot of things. Have fun with your truck.

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  2 года назад +1

      I'm not sure which exact part you're referring to, but if it's the part I'm thinking of, the test I was doing was listening for crackle and pop when it was burning. Which indicates water. Or maybe you're referring to when I soaked the towel and tried lighting it and it didn't light. That means it's water. Diesel will always light if it's soaked into anything that acts as a wick. Like a rag or a paper towel. Now if you were to pour diesel on a table or concrete, yes that will be much harder to light and will probably not stay burning.

  • @candeservices1
    @candeservices1 2 года назад +2

    Just a tip, on soft or wet ground take some air out of the tires it will give you more traction and a softer ride. You have onboard air now so when you hit the pavement air them back up.

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  2 года назад +1

      Figure it out Yeah, totally agree with that. Thing about it is it's very time consuming releasing the air and adding air with these tires so that's the only reason I didn't. If I was going to do some real serious off-roading then I certainly would. I actually have a hose specifically made for this you can air all four down and up at the same time

  • @clarencewiles963
    @clarencewiles963 Год назад +1

    FYI a full fuel tank is leaving a air gap. Diesel will expand on a hot day it’s cold coming out of the ground then expanding as it warms up! I would leave the fuel about 4” below the cap. Try to always park with a good amount of fuel (full) to help with condensation. Thumbs up 👍

    you really need to download and read the maint and parts tech manuals when performing maintenance. a trick i use to for tire removal/install is using two 3/4"x18" black pipe (gas pipe from hm depot or lowes), place it over 2 lug studs at the 2 and 10 o'clock position and walk the tire off/on using the 2 pipes. get you a 30gal + volume air tank and the HF earthquake 3/4" dr impact and you can connect an airline to the emergency glad-hand that you pulled off to put a coupler, by going to napa or any diesel truck stop and buying another glad-hand, to charge the tank, and get a 1/2" air hose to hook to the 3/4" impact and you can use your trucks air system for field ops. to break the bead, use diesel and let it soak for 10-15 min, then use a 36" and 48" pry bar and work around the bead, adding more diesel if need be. sometimes you just can't break the bead. iv got 2 tires, even using the front on my M936A2, tire ratchet strapped, using 10k straps to my 75hp tractor and loader arms, tractor tires chocked and my dually chained to my tractor and the dually chocked, i could pull the bead lock ring off, no matter how much diesel or tire/wheel lube. it is highly recommended to replace the o-ring after each tire break down, esp when the instal time is unknown.

    Hey Chris, love your channel, all great stuff and I still learn things, though I’ve been around all types of machinery for around 40 years. I know this is an older post, but, If I can offer a small tip, when you’re pouring from a 20 litre (5 gallon) drum, start with the opening at the top, and slowly rotate as it empties,will be less likely to spill any fuel,or whatever you’re pouring.

    THANK YOU for your time and effort for this vid. All the love from the UK where diesel is at £1.33+ per litre(September 2021)....if you can find a "gas" station with any fuel. All the love to you and yours.

    I laughed my butt off when you through the corn field and the trees. I've been told they are designed to run on just about anything that will burn. Kerosene, diesel and even old used frying oil.

    I was impressed how you manhandled that heavy wheel and tire combination. Good job.
    I’ve eaten feed corn at the right time, sweet and juicy , and delicious. Cooked them in their husk on a campfire. Man was it good.
    New to your channel. Great filming and narrating! I like your fast pace of scene change. It is like a great movie!
    Cheers and carry on!

    Those lug nuts came off easy. I was killing myself trying to get them off my International 4700 until I got a torque multiplier. I got one of the 1:64 ones and they came off with little force. I put on some military 14.00R20s on my tow rig and love the way it drives now. Great video.

    When they were stick shift you could stop on a hill and shut it off. Then jump start it rolling backwards in 1st gear. You now had 4 hi and 4 low in reverse for pulling gear up a hill.

    Missing the fuel tank screen assembly. Also, we used an airline connected to a glad hand so we were able to connect to both ends and also mounted a vice to the front bumper.

    You should have just put a gladhand on a airhose so you can use it on any truck or just find a better place and tie into it for your airhose

    I had a service station for 20 years, there is a paste we used to put on our long measuring sticks for are storage tanks. It would turn red if it detected water in the tanks.
