Hello Chris and Jen. I am really surprised that the engine sounds as good as it does! I am not sure if I have ever seen one that had so much water in it actually turn out to be a running engine. 🤯. Maybe call her "Wendy" you know because of all the wind that she is going to make LOL.. I am looking forward to the shenanigans this summer with all of your projects "toys". Thumbs UP man ! 👍💯
Finally somebody who knows how to preload a wheel bearing. So many on RUclips set the preload way to tight. Best bet is to take the spacer/adapter off and put a quadrajet back on. If you ever want to learn how to tune a quadrajet, just ask me. I worked in a Cadillac dealership from 1979 on, so I defiantly know how to tune a quadrajet. I'm really interested in this build. Good chance this is a 472 not a 500.With the HEI distributor the only car that had the 500 was the Eldorado. Check the numbers! Either way that engine should have the torque to make that boat fly!
The Quadrajet was the best carby ever made in my opinion. Holleys tend to be more like a bucket tipping heaps of fuel in the engine but the Q-jet metering is just so variable they can run from a 253ci V8 up to a 500ci V8 and deliver outstanding performance, drivability and fuel economy but not a lot of people know how to set them up properly. We would usually look up the factory jets, metering rods and hangers for a particular cubic inch engine and go from there. Lots of fun times tuning them. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Good stuff brother. The old girl is ready for some new shenanigans. Looking forward to the maiden. I can't believe we got that gem for $14,000. You're welcome.
Caddyswampus. What a fun project! Stunned there wasn't more smoke from the motor. Interesting to hear you say 'skosh' in the video (twice). 1950's word. Japan occupation word (post WWII). From 'sukoshi' in Japanese - which means 'just a little bit'. Bet you didn't know you could speak Japanese!
Sounds like 5 years turned to 20 years real fast. I know how easy it is to lose track of time. I have some tractors I haven’t started in two years that I feel like I ran yesterday. Great video as always, I know your friend said you paid $4,000. Not sure what it’s worth? Fun project for while though, and sometimes that’s worth any cost.

I noticed the prop is directly bolted to the crankshaft, prop's are not designed to turn more than about 2700 rpm. You would need to install a PSRU Propeller Speed Reduction Unit to be able to run the engine to redline and the prop at its max efficiency so just be careful running it as is
Its a caddy boat.. No need for gearbox. At 72 inches the prop can spin up to 3200rpms. More than enough to push that thing. But yes you dont want to spin it any faster. Caddys were made for low rpm. Unless its a built caddy you dont want to gearbox that engine for higher RPMs..
I love how you didn't give up. You have a gift or genius for relentless tenacity on these restoration projects. And very skilled. Impressive. And at 18:12 "she's a squirter" love it. (ya know I'm buying that t-shirt when you do it.) 👍

It looks like a old Combee hull, the prop is marked on the side of the hub the size, be careful to duplicate the size due to you don't want to exceed 3000 rpms, for a ball park try some thing in a 72-40 prop size. Look on some airboat classified sites for a prop, they are a precision balanced item. Good luck

A few years my foot. And we all know by now that a few years means 30. Seeing all that rust and the engine being locked, unless it sat in harsh conditions exposed to the elements, that thing has had to have sat for at least a minimum of 15 years. By my favorite line has to be "It was running when I parked it."

Caddy's are hard to identify from the outside. With the EGR intake it's probably a 73 to 76. The 472 was only made until 74. The best way I know to tell is to pull a spark plug and get that cylinder to bottom dead center and measure up to TDC. If it's around 4" its a 472. If it's around 4 1/3 its a 500. Great idea with the couch! I'll have to start keeping an eye out on trash nights.
5:27. I cannot wait to see a wrecker on your channel ! It’s only a matter of time ! 😉😆
Chris NEVER ceases to amaze me! From the abandoned boats to that "Willy's?" Jeep (wow that's the most rusted thing I ever saw including the stuff "Restored" even does LOL). He's actually work a full time job as a Mechanic as well as doing all the insanely cool projects and work he does at home and for us on youtube. R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Chris is what it means to me. Sock it to me, sock it to me! LOL. OH YEA! YEEEAAA! And BOYS respect your Grandma!
A few years my foot. And we all know by now that a few years means 30. Seeing all that rust and the engine being locked, unless it sat in harsh conditions exposed to the elements, that thing has had to have sat for at least a minimum of 15 years. By my favorite line has to be "It was running when I parked it."
The water was too clean.
I live around here… nice to see familiar stomping grounds!
That motor runs on Mexican food and I’m not a mechanic but it’s clear
hay luts slapp some tremclad gloss yellow on this baby ,she will be easy to see her ..lol
Haha you remind me of one of those 3rd world guys they get any thing running
That was great. You have some good talent. Thanks for sharing.
I don't think the 472s had a EGR valve, but it's been a while since shopping for a 500 caddy engine.🤔 Enjoying the content, thanks for sharing 😁👍

How about “Air Crap” 😂. Awesome videos!
Props are crazy expensive! A two blade wood prop for my paramotor is $600!
That was awesome! I was LMAO when you were turning the prop and vinegar was shooting a far distance reminded me one time getting a engine unstuck and covered the whole side of my parents garage wall with ATF but what a score that thing is and Can't wait for part 2 and Speaking of Cleetus Mcfarland tonight's the Freedom 500 are you watching it or what and what do you think about that LS Lambo for the winner
