I dropped my T430 from the attic 3,5 meters face down on the hard floor and it's still working!! 💪
It has a little indent and a tiny piece of plastic chipped off but it's 100% functional.
It has the i7-3520M, the Nvidia chip and 12Gb ram. It's awesome. :)
I bought a decked out Thinkpad T430 brand new in 2012 as my personal computer and am typing this message on it today, 12 years later.
Me too ))
@@bi_mat_crypto im going to buy this laptop for like basic lite gaming and some browser , youtube video's etc , can u plz tell me if this laptop upgraded able and any tips? for this laptop , im buying it for 50$
Yup ram CPU SSD also msata SSD and wifi card with 1vyrain bios and it can use a external GPU with the one slot on it@@beastayanxd
Brutal laptop. this is a legend hardware for updating. My basic T430 i5 3350 4GB RAM, 500GB Disk I have converted in a T430 with i7 3630QM, 16GB RAM, FOUR!, Yeah, FOUR DISK, a 2TB EVO SATA3 + 2TB Kingspec mSATA + CD/ROM Adapter HDD with RAID mSATA adapter with 2 x 256GB mSATA. In addition, FULL HD Display con controller + Backlight Keyboard + External GPU Adapter to 1080 nVidia gpu + 9 cell batery with other 9 cell battery + base multimonitor.
Wow so full specs, My T430 basic upgrade just Ram 16gb , ssd 256gb n 1tb hdd caddy, my t430 hv nvidia but i turn off nvidia becuse is too hot if nvidia active.
Maybe next step i want upgrade to classic key and buy docking for monitor 😅. Very love this laptop and x230 for mobile use.
Your t430 hv 4 slot storage ? i think t430 hv 3, sata3 + Msata + caddy cd. Which port ur using to another disk ?
Please advise display model
Did you upgrade the heat sink for the upgraded cpu?
Damn u didn't upgrade a ThinkPad, u built a Lenovo gaming rig 😎😎
now there is expresscard adapter to nvme. added WD SN770m 2TB ssd. gives me 400MB/s both ways :) how kingspec msata is doing? was wondering if quality is decent of that brand.
Buying this laptop soon for programming, gonna install linux on it and upgrade the ram. this thing is a beast! with the docking station it is just so amazing at home
Had a heavily upgraded T430 for years, as a mobile secondary-Initially for Volvo VIDA, and other OBD2-based utilities, like diagnostics, module programming, tuning, etc. Upgraded to a Core i7-3632QM, maxed out the RAM to 16GB, dual SATA SSDs, 768p > 900p TN display upgrade (still a poop sandwich, but not as soggy), AC WIFI, 1vyRain BIOS + Battery/WIFI EC whitelist removals, and even Hackintoshed it with macOS 10.14 Mojave.
Eventually parted with it in favor of a much beefier P50 about 2 months ago when I started using it for heavier workloads on the go (also currently Hackintoshed with Monterey). And my T430 sold for more than what I got the P50 for, which already came with double the RAM (32GB), NVMe SSDs, and a-fairly useless, but leagues ahead of an HD 4000-Quadro M1000M.
With all that said, though, the T430 is undoubtedly one of the best notebook PCs ever made, and despite purchasing and repairing DOZENS of these over the years, I do kinda miss my particular T430.
U should have kept your T430. It might sound dumb but the things we invest the most into are the ones we transfer a little bit of us to. Just bc it's a physical object doesn't it mean it can't hold something of you! Bet that's why u miss it 😉
@@zerocal76 Trust me-You're preaching to the choir here! Maintenance and care aside, there are VERY good reasons why I still have my Volvo S60 after more than a decade, and why each car I owned over the years was given a particular name with meaning.
However, as much as I liked my T430, it wasn't invested into anywhere near that degree, and I found new love with my current P50-Especially now that I've had more time with it 🦾
The big issue with T430 is the max RAM which is only 16 GB
@@kafir5801 True, but you have to take into consideration that it is a Sandy/Ivy Bridge era business-class notebook from over a decade ago. Many desktops of that era also maxed out at 16GB (some to 32GB, though). Despite this, 16GB-in many use cases-is still definitely useable in 2024.
Since college Ive always used a T series. I have skipped a few models now, but I used the T430 for 4 years. The thing was really impressively useful.
i have a T430, Cool Laptop, i have 8Gb Ram but i only put in a 128ssd in it. but its all i need. i just browse internet and watch RUclips. It's never let me down.
I got one today. I upgraded the memory and switched to 256GB SSD . Definitely, a very good laptop. I’m really happy with it!🎉
Which ssd have you installed SATA SSD OR MSATA SSD?
I bought my T430 back when it first came out I came from a t60 ThinkPad and it's the best buying decision I've ever made the T430 is still one of the best computers in the ThinkPad lineup I've ever used I can literally do anything with it and for a laptop I would still recommend it today especially for people who are on a budget
I have one, not even fully upgraded, 8gb of ram and an i3 with a sata ssd. It runs windows 11 pro perfectly, I gave it to my mother for internet use and Netflix. Not a single problem.
The whole x30 series is awesome, i got a whole bunch in the family (X230, T430, W530) take into account the X series and the T430s have a soldered CPU not upgradable, i highly recommend the i7-3612qm and i7-3632qm as this are 35W TDP variants as an upgrade, you can upgrade the W530 in combination with a quadcore cpu up to 32 GB, and in the W530 you can even go for the XM variants of the cpu for max power, if taking into account the i7-3840qm for the T430/T530 take into account it has 45 W TDP, but it also works good on the T430. For todays uses i recommend SSD, max out RAM, CPU upgrade is an easy task (due to perfect documentation provided by Lenovo, Hardware Maintenance Manual), there are some marvelous webpages showing the possibilities.
As long as it has a G3 processor it can take up to 32Gb ram. And the T530 shares all its advantages but with a larger screen, if that's what someone wants :)
i like T530, they're almost the same design with very small changes.
@@OMNITEK running linux mint on my T530, love it.
100% agree with you. This and the T480 are some of the best, durable, and repairable laptop ever made!
Really my only gripes are that it's a bit difficult to find a version with an Nvidia GPU, and that Linux can't quite take full advantage of the Nvidia GPU even if you get one (blame that on Nvidia's poor support, not Linux).
Apart from that, even with the built-in Intel graphics, this thing is perfectly capable for the vast majority of everyday tasks.
oh yeah the T480 is a beast too...i use this 430 daily...i absolutely love it
I have a T530 that I have had for 5 years. It has been dropped twice. The only thing I need for it is a new keyboard.
I've been using a T430 for a few years already as my daily driver during university (since I study in another city and can't bring my home PC with me). So far I added a 128 GB SSD that made the laptop work much faster, and an 8 GB RAM module. Really solid laptop, it's also decent for some light gaming, as I played some older titles (incl. GTA SA, Mafia 1, NFS Underground (1&2), Most Wanted 2005) and a bit newer ones (Dirt 2, worked at 20-30 fps on low-medium settings but the game was stable 😅 good enough for me). Not bad for an integrated graphics card (it has the i5 3320m with Intel HD 4000).
I'm planning to find a backlit keyboard, because the original is already wearing out and doesn't have this feature, another 8 GB module and maybe.. maybe.. another screen as a replacement for that TN pile of garbage.
got a perfectly working a t430s in a very good condition for 20$ and a x61 tablet in perfect condition with a pen for 2$, ps if you have an old thinkpad boost the microphone and record with hypercam2 on the lowest quality, best time of my life
that's actually some great deal, i like buying things like that too so these devices can be used again, especially if you install linux mint or some linux distro, you'd think this laptop is from 2023
All this thinkpad hype literally made me buy a t490 (it was the only one with the IPS screen and I needed accurate colors for my work)
but now I'm thinking of buying a retro model like this too just to play around with it. maybe watch some old dvds around the house lol
Good stuff
You can install tiny11/10 and will work great too...or otherwise you can put Android or Linux...almost anything works on these..i reallylike them...they feel retro and utilitary at the same time
I have this laptop with i7 3632qm 16gb ram SSD/HHDD Linux/FreeBSD/Windows for work. Its great option for work
I have 3 T430. 2 T430s. 2 W520. and more.. the 430 is a beast
and i thought i was collecting them lol
i have 2 t430 high spec i7 nvs5400m , 1 2560p and 2570p i7... t430 is truly beast on its league and 2560p 2570p is a beast for a smaller laptop league...
T430 is better than W520?
@@cink89 t430 way more better because its using 3rd gen cpu....
currently watching this on my broken T430
Awesome! I have mine for 3 years already. I am about to upgrade my 4 GB RAM to 16GB RAM... I also wanna upgrade its CPU from i5 to i7... am still figuring out how to upgrade the rest... how did you do that? I wanna upgrade everything
The T430 is a beast
Do you run the Viking Garage channel too?.
Nope, thats not me
Agree , that model also classic retro
Lenovo is a Chinese Company, They Bought the Company from IBM, it was a British company for Years
The red nipple were meant for beauty not usage
And it even has a DVD Player in it! I love the rugged feel of it. (To say nothing of the surprisingly sharp images, when watching DVDs or RUclips.) Oh! Did I mention that it starts up unusually fast?
Which Laptop is better than t430? T420! It has a better keyboard, accepts also ivy bridge cpus if you coreboot it and is much cheaper.😊
l just bought a refurbished 14" in mint condition at 8 GB 480 GB SSD for $130.
Where
@@nickelbus7596probably eBay.
I always knew the T430 is amazing, I own one!
Small secret here, some of the videos on this channel are editted and rendered on my T430, just because i like it so much.
@@OMNITEK Oh wow, thats so cool!
I own a t430i one
Its like a tank imo vs modern day laptops
@@Asadc1995 wouldnt disagree, but its a tank that most of us like...because of the tank like design
Its not a thinkpad of its not dirty
yea right lol
Can I put 2 rams?
Is the t430i model the cpu socket upgradable? from a dual core i3 3110m to a quad core i7 3th gen
yes
Just won 2 working t430 in a bidding on ebay and i was wondering whats the best intel cpu i can put on it
same with me... i just bought 2 t430 high spec model last month.. both comes with i7-3520m nvs5400m hd+ lcd... first check if your t430 have discreat gpu... its under the keyboard.. if you have 2 pipe of heatsink that mean your t430 have the nvs5400m... dual gpu model... for the cpu upgrade , make sure its the same 35w cpu because this t430 even with 35w i7 cpu is quite hot 80+ celcius under load.. i cant imagine how if the 45w i7 cpu on it....
i7-3632QM, that's it. Same TDP 35 W, it won't burn your main board, and you don't have to buy new charging adapter
thats REAL true
is it good fofr autocad??
It works but depends what version of autocad and how complex your projects are to be processed.
Did any of the T430 come with an internal GPU?
What do you mean? Do you mean integrated? Or do you mean a gaming card? Mine has an Nvidia 5400m, but the exhaust and fan setup are not the best for gaming-more for something graphic intense for a short time.
I should have asked if any T430 came with a discreet card in conjunction with integrated. You answered my question-
the tn screen is horrible
Ye it's shit
good thing you can literally just swap it with an IPS screen
To be fair all 3rd and 4th gen could upgrade everything and some including gpu
It's a legend but the panel seems not so good, it's a TN panel, with poor RGB rendition...
how can i buy one of those and wher ? am in morroco . and last whats the name of that game hhhh thnx bro
best bet would be to check at a near city where you might find a laptop repair shop sometimes they sell these cheap otherwise see if you can buy one online and have it shipped to your local post office if your post office doesn't deliver to the house...the game i played in the end is "Need Foor Speed the Run"
I managed to install Windows 98 on the T430s, does anyone know if there are drivers from another Thinkpad that might work on the T430s in Win98? I just need Audio/Video
Check what audio card you have and give it a try getting them from their official site if they have...or see if anyone has archived any mods...the video part would be a tough one though, since most of these modules didn't exist in win98
better buy t430 or t470
If the t470 is in good condition and has an i7 on it....definitely the t470
i just installed Valorant last night , wtf i got like 100+ fps average in game... mine just 8gb i7-3540m Nvs5400m... gta v 40+ fps on 900p low... Beast
Can it run windows 11 without issues?
It's just about the oldest computer than can handle Windows 11, but you have to jump through a ton of hoops to make it work.
i need windows98 bûs, audio & Video drivers for the TRUE LEGEND (with an s) ^^
true
Those Amazon reviews are brutal though lmao
most of them don't know it's value or never tried it...or could be people who just dont like it
Bruh that is my laptop
mine too lol
This guy alone shows that you do not the latest tech for a good experience. And the laptop is dirt cheap nowadays
I'm getting this laptop for 68€ wish me luck😅
Thats way too much...in my opinion...
Can it run terraria?
i have no idea...never played it so i can't really say
Yes, I have only tried with quad core cpus, but I bet the dual core configurations could handle it. Windows will give better gaming performance than linux since the old ass cpu doesn’t support vulkan
@@XxEraserManxX i installed it even with tmodloader. Runs well
@@XxEraserManxX 😂 Vulkan isn’t the issue. It’s the outdated Nvidia driver that is the issue. It can handle Mass Effect 2 on Windows 10 without struggle.
t420 is the best >:/
T420 keyboard is much better
Special the modern laptop keybords are realy junk.....not at all tactile and total not feedback
