I just scooped up an 031 for $20 and it cleaned up nice. The piston is the cleanest I've seen on an old saw so I don't think it was used much. Its the electronic ignition model, which lost spark the day I bought it lol. I put in an ignition module and it runs good now.

The 030 was 45cc, 031 was 49cc & 032 was 51cc. Electronic ignition was available around '80. Stihl 'stepped' their models all the time, sometimes w/o designating a model change. Most had 3 changes usually just a larger piston/cylinder setup.

Just bought an 031av and 020avp at a flea market for 20 bucks a piece. The 020 avp started right up. Had to fix a couple things on the 031. Gonna try and fire it up soon.

@@KainKustomGarage your knowledgeable in these things. When I started the 030 it throttled up really high spit gas out the carb and died. I rebuilt the carb and same issue. Intake boot and fuel lines seem ok. I think maybe the idle was set really high but hit sure if that would be the issue. Maybe leaky seals that are letting air in. What do you think?

Got 4 of the 031/032, worked on several back in the day but in this area Stihl sold the bejesus out of the 028.

I have a red top and orange top with hand gaurd. I sold cords for a few years, using the 031 with a 24 in bar to backup my 038mag2. Until a husky 372 became the backup then a 455 played 2nd backup. The whole thing is Dailey cleaning and sharpening.
