The Strut Mounts are the Same for Either Side
IMPORTANT: this Process would be the same for Rear wheel drive BMW (not equipped with xDrive/AWD) the only difference would be not having to remove the CV Axle because there won’t be one and the parts would be different if your BMW is not xDrive

I have a 2016 bmw 340i xDrive, I need to replace both front struts. I am having a difficult time finding the struts for this year at a reasonable price. The struts for 2014-2015 bmw 335i xDrive are available and at a very reasonable price. To my understanding and research the only thing that changed between these years in terms of the front struts are the strut mounts.
So my question to you is, if I get the previous year struts, am I able to simply put my strut mounts on them and be good to go?
