Undyed Gillio vs Natural Eternal Leather Goods - My most likely unpopular thoughts...

- Hey Y'all!
Many of us are using the Common Planner Full Year for 2023 as it is such a gorgeous planner! With the unique design of having all the yummy Tomoe River pages in the back, it has been a small challenge to find a leather cover to fit the full year planner WITH an additional clear cover. I filmed this video hoping to show y'all the differences of the B6 Gillio Cover and B6 Eternal Leather Goods cover so that you can make an informed choice if you've been thinking about either of these covers. Also, I'm sorry I keep calling them 'notebooks' in this video. I'm still making the transition from TN Land to Planner Land and I'll get it soon...hopefully.

I 💯 agree with you. Eternal Leather Goods and VanDerSpek win hands down in the leather quality, customization and customer service department!!! I will occasionally buy a Chic Sparrow still but unfortunately their leather quality has deteriorated over the past couple of years. I owned one Gillio but sold it immediately, they are not worth the price and their customer service is terrible. Love your channel and just love you Ali, God bless you and your loved ones in 2023! 😘
I agree their CS is lacking and Chic Sparrow has seem to go in an odd direction.
I purchased a preloved Gillio , I’m glad I didn’t purchase for full price . The pen loop is an issue also . You can only fit the slimmest of pens in the loop . I don’t have a ELG , but it’s on my wishlist !
Gillio uses calf leather where as ELG and VDS (janet leather) uses cow leather. Calf leather is more expensive but also more delicate and not as substantial as cow leather. So the use of calf leather might motivate the higher price of Gillio planners. Me myself am also more into the rougher kind of veg tan cow leather.
I totally agree with you, I have a couple gillio appunto weeks, I dont use because I went to Wonderland 222 a6 now b6. I think the Morterm was very close to the gillio. I love your eternL and it looks like it would fit my Wonderland 222 b6. I so wanted to use the common planner. I bought 2023 did not write in it. Bought the new 2024 weeks to use with my gillio, used maybe a week. I need more room and stacked weekends. Plus I have to see the dates. Thanks for sharing

I love the fact that we are all drawn to different 'things' in planner covers - weather it is the feel, look or smell - that is one reason I appreciate review/my thoughts videos.
I fell for the online hype of Chic Sparrow so badly a few years ago, that even though I didn't like the first or second item I had ordered, I still placed a third order (everyone online LOOOVED Chic Sparrow so it must be me right?!).
I couldn't wait to get rid of the items I had bought; they didn't smell nice, didn't look all that (thick and clumsy, not very refined or luxurious at all) and they felt awful. Very fake and plasticky (apart from one, however, that one still didn't feel nice, just not plasticky).
I thought ELG was OK, but I felt the large and noisy popper cheapened the cover a lot and I ended up selling it as well.
So, contrary to your experience, I have had good luck with all but one Gillio cover; they have a nice leather smell (but not too strong), feel supple and really lovely to the touch and they are not too thick and cumbersome.
As Gillio uses calf leather, which I have always liked, rather than cow leather, which is more common, I guess their items suit my preferences and likes more.
Ditto! I love all 10 of my Gillios!😂 Nothing compares. I very much dislike thick clunky leather

ELG is my favourite too. Ive had almost everything. The smell and feel of the ELG... perfection.
I own Gillio and VDS, although I like my Gillio a lot I am done buying. I find Gillio to be very inconsistent in their quality. VDS has fantastic CS but I cannot afford a custom.
Eternal Leather was not on my radar now I must check them out.
Both covers look beautiful. I’ve never had a real leather one so I can’t tell the difference. 😂😂
Glad you decided to keep the other Eternal cover. I think you’d regret selling it. I’m thinking of ordering one but would need to the height modified for sure but a little width probably too. Maybe. 🧐
I totally get it. Chic Sparrow definitely set the bar high in the leather notebook world. Now anytime I buy a notebook I find myself comparing it to Chic Sparrow 😂🤦🏽♀️

I’m glad that you’re finding what notebooks and covers work for you and that you are keeping the B6 ELG cover; it really is lovely. I appreciate the honest feedback re: Gillio. I’ve wanted a natural in A5 forever, but the things that underwhelmed you would have disappointed me, too. Can I see an E5 ELG in my future? Most likely! 🎶Does that make be crazy? That undyed Gillio is 🔥 It’s calf leather which is thinner and softer than cow leather. I think they are more elegant. I very much dislike the ‘’raw’’ unfinished leather on the one from Colin

Hi Ali! I own a number of Gillio’s and have never really fallen in love and now I know why!! The pockets don’t work for me either. I plan to order a B6 ELG and wonder if yours is the pebbled leather or veg tanned as it looks pebbled in this video but the link you gave is for the veg tanned. Just double checking!! It’s a preference of quality leathers. Gillio’s are made from Italian calfskin. Those other planners are made from cowhide. I prefer the soft calfskin.
I love the feel of Gillio leather…nothing compares. Also,can’t you use the outside Mia cover for your Stalogy? I often use both separately

I sold the standard size and I still have the custom size. I think I will probably sell it though here soon when I get the time.
Gillio leather is higher end, it's going to feel different than a chic sparrow, for SURE, cuz Gillios leather isn't the kind saddles are made of, it's the kind designer Purses are made of. If you like really thick leather this is not that. Also, the lining, thats how high end leather products are finished, laving the raw side of leather open like in the other cover in your video just looks unfished to me, thats just me though, i need a inner liner in my covers. To each their own, i wish i liked less expensive covers cuz Gillios cut into my wallet! 😂

I don't have a Gillio but it doesn't seem worth the price at all. Galen is full grain for way cheaper, and you can get better grades for still less than Gillio. Also, gillio is calf-leather, which is softer and thinner. It's actually a more pricey leather, but it's not going to give you that firm feel that you break into with cow leather.
I thought I was the only person who doesn't like when the edges are folded over and sewn. I can't stand it! My planners need burnished edges with glazing. I'm firm on that one.
