@@arthurwarren2able yeah I read what you said and you're wrong lol. Throw a CAI, headers, and a tune on a 5.7 and you'll be making 450 just from that. For me to get that out of my dakota rt I'd need a cam, headers, intake manifold, heads, and a tune. The magnums aren't quite worth it anymore. Are they cheap? Sure. But for how much you gotta put into them I'd rather nab a 5.7 for maybe 400 bucks more.

I kept the cam small because it gets driven long distance to go wheeling. San Diego to Moab and back several times, Baja and all over the southwest.

My 360 has stock heads and lower end but put in a set of Hughes magnum valve springs/ retainers, custom grind comp cams camshaft with 513 intake and 520 exhaust, edelbrock air gap intake, 750 Willys carb, chevy style HEI distributor, and a set of hedman headers. It is still hooked to the stock 904 trans, stock 8 1/4 axle with 3.21 gears but has a sure grip now. I currently just bought a 727 trans and a 8 3/4 axle with 3.23 sure grip but not sure when I will swap them. Not sure what it will run in the 1/4 or the 1/8 mile but should be way better than the old factory TBI 318.

Converting my 96 ram Indy to carb and using a trans controller for the 46re trans. It's got a 2-4 drop from Belltech and a 4:10 gear. Going to do a similar build like big red with a 100 shot of nitrous as well. I've owned it since 2003 when I bought it with 60k miles. Now it has 98k and it's been well maintained. You mentioned your "big red" runs 12's....I'm more then alittle suspicious these days when guys say their Magnums ( trucks) are running 12's. I've seen a few that do, but its ALOT more then just a few swaps, getting them there.
My 2001 2WD short bed Magnum 360, has....
    Edelbrock manifold,
    Edelbrock heads
    Fastman 52mm TB
    Gibson headers
    32lb injectors
    Hughes 226/230 110LSA cam (.555"/.565")
    Stainless rockers, and rods
    4:11 gears
    Hemifever tune
    Stage 2 RE46 trans with 2400 stall.
and isn't anywhere near 12 seconds.
Its my daily driver, and is reliable as hell, but, still not close to 12 seconds....
Like I said, I've seen a few Magnums running 12's, but all of those were supercharged.
I'm ready to drop about $5000 on a charger, but the bottom end now should be done first.
I wish we'd be able to actually SEE Magnums running 12's. ( trucks that is..plenty of cars running 12's with these..) Theres a few, but not many.
I've even thought about going to 4:56 gears, but that pretty much makes sure it wont be a daily driver anymore.

I’ve heard the 360 is to much for a nv3500 but I have heard it will be just fine aswell. it’s just for daily drive ability. My trans has only been in the truck for 14 months and was brand new upon install . I feel confident it would be fine but the real question is new to me 318 or 360 and refresh a few things. Hughes engines is who I like. Call them and give them your truck specs and goals for the truck. They will set you up with a good cam.

@@TheGasTap i got a question if you could give your opinion on it. I have a fairly pristine 98 dodge ram 4x4 with a 360. My plan has been to do a mildly built 360 for it. I'd like to still be able to tow with it but also have some lope. Also would like to keep the factory fuel injection if that's possible. Guess my question is if it's feasible to get all of the above and end up at around 375hp at the crank? And would it be better to stroke it to get more torque. Like a 408 stroker build.

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  3 года назад +1

I don’t believe in spending the money it takes to build a 408. I’d put a cam in it, Hughes/edelbrock intake, port the heads a little and a tuner. If you have the funds, a 408 will definitely do the job.

@@TheGasTap thanks for the reply. I'm with you the 408 is a lot of green. Most likely won't be going that route. Thanks again!

      360 drivers side bracket.
They used to be easy to get. I looked the other day and can’t find one. Call Mancini Racing. If they don’t have it they probably know how to get one.

Have you ever had any issues like this? Can I save my intake or do I need to just shelf this intake and go edelbrock?
