I just started looking at these filters and found your video. I really like the look it gave you. It’s stylistic and strong but I like it. Great work. Makes me want one more 😊
Diffusion filters generally become less pronounced at longer focal lengths since you're shooting through less of the glass. The 2 would be lovely on longer lenses, 1/4 to 1/8 better for the 24-35 range
@@Made_by_Matthew I love how you go about examining your own footage without going in to too much technical detail. I think it's nice to get an opinion on a filter rather than clinical results. Another great video idea would be to test different lenses (old and new) with BPM filters of different gradients. If you're ever in London I can hook you up with an Arri Mini / Alexa to make the video. - g
@@chonk2740 thanks! That's a good idea actually, a lot of vintage lenses Bloom naturally whereas modern ones have really defined highlight edges. I might be visiting my cousin in Norwich over summer so who knows lol
Matt: Thanks for a lovely video. I have the Pro-Mist 1/8 and was looking to get a stronger one. Your video was very helpful in steering me away from the higher numbers, which seem like they would be for specialized use. So your video was very useful to me, despite your misgivings. It was also very well organized and presented. Your selection of shots clearly showed the effects of the filter in a very pleasant way. I see that your subscriber numbers are up as well.
Thanks dude very good and helpful video. Yours is the first that has been helpful and shown how you can manage the higher strength filters. I was searching for alternatives for the tiffen black promise and have ended with 4 filters all with varying strengths all over a 1/2 until todayvwhfni purchased a 1/4 . However have now watched your video I now feel that I have now not wasted my money and now have a sense on how to control the stronger filters. Thanks again and have subscribed and look forward to checking out more of your videos.
I'm so glad you made this video! I found a "great deal" on PM3... and now that l see what the 2 does, l know I need to go with a lower number! From one Matt to another- Thanks
Super helpful to see what an extreme of the filter will do. I think the footage is amazing, and works very well, and also agree, a less pronounced (1/2 or 1/4), could be a little more subtle. It does look very filmic and dreamy though
Great video and review man! Your audience will grow as you just keep at it. I actually really like the look you’re getting. It may be a little soft but the effect is nice
Have you tried or think to try black satin instead? It looks like it has been thought for newest digital cameras than pro mist was... I own already the black pro mist 1/4 because as you I found it for a really nice price on amazon... No idea why but it was just one... For now testing it, so far so good, thanks for the video! I hope to see more stuff from you soon 😊😎
Maybe it's not clear to me what your goal was, but i honestly think you're getting an amazing amount of style for a single filter, via youtube with compression being a *uckin roll of the dice, it really comes across hyer high-end. If your goals were subtly and gentle image adjustment then i can see why you're only half convinced, but honestly...youtube is for 4k 60fps phonemera vloggers and you're literally 87.3% above that by far. Thanks for talking to me about it though. signed - Your happenstance stumbling theoretical audience member.
I have tried a 1/4 and half now and the 1/2 is probably more useful, the 1/4 is very subtle. that said its all down to taste so definitely look up comparisons if you're not sure which to pick
@@Made_by_Matthew Thank you for responding. I also saw another video that says he prefers 1/2 because it was perfect for him. Just like you said, 1/4 was too subtle for him and 1 was a bit much.
Hey thanks! For this it was mostly a sigma 24-105 f4 however the shots in the forest at night were on a pentax 50mm f1.7 and a minolta f2.8 AF mount. The shots at the beach were minolta af 70-210. All over the place, I know but that was what I had at the time lol
Definitely helpful! (2 is too strong for what I'm looking for but it's great to see some examples of what the effect is on real footage.) My sense is that in a few spots your words piled up on each other and my brain ran behind sorting out what you had just said. The advice I've been given is to pretend you're explaining something or just talking to a friend. Set up your mannequin across the table and imagine he's a friend who is interested in filters and explain things to him (with the mic recording...)
love the video man, just give your voice more volume and drop the music a touch more. also mix to -12db through -9db. seems really high volume wise overall
You have no idea how helpful this video was. You have another subscriber
Erik Troy thank you! Glad you found it helpful

The shots of the beach were all on a 70-210 at around 210 and I think the effect came out really nice in those shots

Jackson Peters i did tests and i have reversed effect... the longer the focal length to stronger the filter is
Great bit of info about focal length and filter strengths . Thank you

Really helpful thanks Matt. I like the glow that vintage lenses give so I'm going to get this strength.
Thank you for posting. Your video helps us decide if this filter is for us saving us money in the end.
Glad you found it useful!

Great video, not many solid videos about pro mist filters, especially for the stronger filters. Thanks!
Thank you for this! Kinda looking into getting one for portrait type work.
thanks! glad you found it helpful
It was happenstance but enjoyed your video. Nice pics also!
Great video and review man! Your audience will grow as you just keep at it. I actually really like the look you’re getting. It may be a little soft but the effect is nice
Fantastic review! Thank you!
Stumbled upon this, cool imagery.

Great video

I searched pro mist and this was the second video in queue. +1 sub :)
Great video mate! After watching this I actually want to buy one now, cheers
Thanks and they're pretty good, especially if you have a LUT on your monitor so you can see the final result
this is very useful man... love it
He just speaks super fast Lol...I loved the video though. the grading is AWESOME
Thanks for the review, what is the light lost on the BPM 2?

Very good review sir!! Keep it up!!!
Glad you found it helpful!
Did you say you recommend to buy 1/4 or 1/2 first before buying this filter?
I have tried a 1/4 and half now and the 1/2 is probably more useful, the 1/4 is very subtle. that said its all down to taste so definitely look up comparisons if you're not sure which to pick

Ordered the 1/2 so i can match my canon footage, need a bit of softening without losing much detail. Sony is just sharp for my preference
Ben Cruz yeah I agree. I'd really like a 1/2 for my sigma 24-105. As great as it is as a lens, with the a7s the image is just far too perfect
great video mate!
thank you!
Hey man, good quality content. Just as a filmaker doing the research I would appreciate it if you post the lens used aswell. Regards

May I know filter name
"Black pro mist 2" sometimes abbreviatied to "BPM 2"
love the video man, just give your voice more volume and drop the music a touch more. also mix to -12db through -9db. seems really high volume wise overall
thank you! and solid tips I'll definitely take them into account
Your music is louder than you. I could hardly hear you.
Fair criticism
