    My first flight in a Trike. Recently I visited Evolution Trikes in Tampa Florida and I had the opportunity to go up in the air with the founder, Larry Mednick. This is was like nothing else I’ve ever flown in. Your first impression of a Revo trike, you might think this is an ultralight. But this is a light sport aircraft that uses a 100 HP rotax engine.
    Flying a trike is quite different from flying a standard single engine airplane. it’s a naked aircraft that allows you to feel all the joy of flying. Your control surfaces are a bit different and you are pretty much applying opposite inputs in a trike to climb or descend. A trike also requires you to use your hands a lot. Maneuvers in the air and on the ground are all controlled by hand handles.
    The Revo from Evolution Trikes is quite the package. Entry level price is $85,000. Depending ion the additional equipments you add, then you can go up to $120,000 for a fully loaded Revo trike.

    Revo is the Ferrari of the flexwing aircraft.
    Winner of awards including:
    2010 "Outstanding New Design"
    2017 "Best Trike Ultralight"
    Kudos to the designer and builder, Larry Mednick

    I took a flight in a Revo with Paul Hamilton out of Carson City. We flew over the mountains and around Lake Tahoe. It was awesome and would recommend to all. If you want to get into light sport flying I would recommend buying a low hours (less than 1000) LSA like a Flight Design CTSW for around $70k. You can cruise at 115 kts 5 gph and have a 900 m range. If things go bad.... just pop the brs.

    You did an excellent review as always! I've been flying various Australian made Airborne trikes since 1999 and absolutely love weight shift for the pure joy of flight. I'm looking forward to flying the Revo someday soon.

    Outstanding mike, as usual, you are a brave man, but with a experienced pilot there pretty safe, reminded me of my first ultralight flight were I was at the controls, I like the way you explain yourself, good video, long time fan, thanks mike.

    in some ways this design is probably safer than a traditional airplane, the engine is behind so if it explodes, leaks oil, propeller comes off, it's going to fly back instead of into your body or face, also if you even need to stand up and stretch, the wing is high enough from the seat that you could probably fully stand up in the gondola, it's inherently stable, so if you go into a cloud, just release controls and the trike will naturally correct itself, but most of all, the only moving mechanisms are the axis point where the wing is attached, so less moving parts like cables, hinges, rods, etc resulting in less points of failure! The Best part is, you don't have to rent hangar space! You can take it home with you in your high-rise condo in New York City!

    This is a hella-lot of diniero $$ for basically a toy aircraft. While it does look like alot of fun, that price and cost of ownership lies in the millionaire range. Ill stick to true ultra lights and put that $$ into a self built STOL airframe. But none-the-less great video. i can see your channel growing and growing....keep us informed thanks Mojo-Mike

    • @foxgaming76yt24
      @foxgaming76yt24 4 года назад

      Not exactly. Usually, trikes like these are faster. And it looks more terrifying than this already is. Of course, if you don’t have a fear of heights or even fear itself, it won’t really be much of a problem. The landing also can be a bit tough. But yeah, overall, they’re somewhat similar.

  • @flexairz
    @flexairz 5 лет назад

    I have flown some trikes and as 3000+ hour pilot in normal aircraft, I find controlling and steering a trike very unnatural, going to the left means moving the bar to the right and vv.
    I would not recommend pilots to jump between normal aircraft and weight shift trikes as in an emergency situation things could go horribly wrong.

    • @rcbif101
      @rcbif101 5 лет назад

      lol, no....these cruise at more than 3x the speed giving them a far greater range, and are way more tolerant of rough air.

    • @kapppz
      @kapppz 5 лет назад

      @@rcbif101 I stand by my initial comments. Range is not a factor, both PPG and the Revo are weekend toys and not really meant for range. Again the price diff 8x to 10x more. Ultra light training compared to light sport. It would seem you have a vested interest in the Revo?

    • @rcbif101
      @rcbif101 5 лет назад

      @@kapppz I have a friend with a used Revo. You can always get used for a fraction of the price, or another brand weightshift for around 30k or 2 stroke LSA for half that. He would disagree about range being irrelevant. He's done flights out west around mountain ranges that in the same amount of time in a ppg would be just a flight around the town. Have been in both types of aircraft. Always joke a ppg is like a slightly faster hot air balloon flight.
