Metallica does that, let's call it "Metallica effect" - stirring powerful emotions while producing enjoyable and beautiful songs at the same time. One example of that is "Fade to Black" from the "Ride The Lightning" album, among so many other masterpieces.

Metal is usually that way. Serious real subjects with well crafted music behind it. So it’s perfectly understandable to have the reaction, which is by far one of the most genuine I’ve ever seen so far.
If I could recommend more Metallica, “One” is another masterpiece of music you should consider listening to.

Truly a high-water mark in the Metallica song writing history. This just came out of the dark and slapped us all in the face back in the 80s, really really powerful stuff. It's cool that you got an endorphin rush from the music and also felt the power of the lyrics in a different way. That's okay... It's great to smile and be happy and listen to metal. Metal is awesome for that very reason it's a great release.

You will find a similar experience with the songs Fade to Black and One from this band, as well as some other songs, Sanitarium comes to mind as well. That combination of dark and disturbing themes combined with absolutely genius instrumentals. One of the things that drew me to this band in my youth was that they could take these dark topics, combine them with melodic, yet dark, but also beautiful guitar riffs and solos. It helped me associate something negative with something positive to balance the emotional impact.

It is amazing seeing someone experience this for the first time. It is easier to understand why metal fans like metal so much after going to that realm yourself. It is very easy to see why Metallica fans are an incredible mass force that follow them to the ends of the earth. You felt everything emotionally during that. It's a rush, its sad, its amazing, its depressing. It is everything wrapped up in a master piece of a song. There is a reason I see Metallica as Metal gods and that is why. With every song they send you on an amazing roller coaster of emotions. Musically it doesn't even need to be said that they are top tier. I hope you enjoyed that first time ride through Master of Puppets. "One" is another great song that can do the same emotionally that this one does, but when you go through "One" do not listen to the actual music video the first time. Get a lyric video because the music video combines scenes from an old movie called "Johnny Got His Gun". It's a great video, but the first time through seeing that it can be very hard to concentrate on the music and the movie portions together. Hear this one in its normal music only form first. You'll be doing yourself a favor. If and when you do I hope you enjoy it. I love Metallica so much. They are my favorite band of all and I love everything about them.

With Metallica, always pay attention to the change in tempo. The song started with rage as the drugs were calling him. The song then shifted to a slower and more euphoric sound which represents him taking the drugs and being on that high. It then pictures the pace back up with a guitar solo that sounds chaotic and almost spiraling. This is him spiraling down and crashing down from the high which starts the pattern all over again.

Thanks for good reaction, it's nice to watch people experiencing Metallica songs first time. And you managed to catch the meaning of the song too. Many of their songs have deep lyrics and story to tell. And they are very versatile band, having some very fast and energetic, but also some beautiful emotional songs. I recommend to listen some mix between studio and live versions, and maybe having lyrics nearby too. I hope to see more Metallica reactions from you.
    Some song recommendations to listen:
    - Fade to Black. Heavy and beautiful ballad with deep sad message, one of their classics. Studio version is recommended, you can hear the guitar solo fully, as it's voted high on some best guitar solo votes.
    - Creeping Death, live from Moscow 1991. Legendary concert from Russia, with over 1 million people in the audience. Excellent heavy metal song with nice solo. Nearly unmatched energy of the band and the show.
    - The Day that Never Comes, live for example from Quebec Magnetic show. Some of their more recent stuff from 2nd latest album.
    - One. Classic reaction song in youtube. Also has good changes and transitions of different types of feelings, and tells very tragic story. Here's option for some live performance, or to watch the official music video, which has movie clips telling story in the background. Both are good.
    - Unforgiven. Actually it's a trilogy, you can find parts I, II and III. They share some similarities, but have bit different perspectvie on lyrics. Beautiful emotional songs. Studio versions for these.
    - Welcome Home (Sanitarium). Song telling emotional story again, having melodic and heavy parts.
    Enjoy your Metallica journey!

It took me a long time and alot of maturity to realize it was about drugs, and to really pay attention to the story told by the music and the lyrics.
Now, like you, I actually feel tears welling up in this song. The isolation, suffering, and complete ruin of a person's life is brilliantly captured in the song, and it gets me in the feels. Great reaction! Metallica have always explored real and personal issues in their lyrics, so it's great that you caught that. If you liked this one, so just definitely do a deeper dive into their other stuff. Their style has changed over the years though, so if you want more that sounds like this, anything from the albums Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets or ...And Justice For All is what I'd recommend. For a more raw, punky Metallica, try the album Kill 'Em All, for a more bluesy sound try either Load or Reload, and for for a more polished, commercial-sounding Metallica, try the Black Album.

Jess - my dear lady, we've all been there. It's wonderful that you were able to set aside any biases and really _listen_ to the song. That says a lot about your character.
Now, may I assume you are not a fan of heavy metal? I mean, generally speaking, you don't regularly listen to metal? I ask because Metallica is the biggest metal group on Earth, so if you haven't heard their music, it seems unlikely you are listening to any other metal. If that's the case, you could not have chosen a better song for your introduction to the genre! I really think of _Master of Puppets_ as a gateway song. There's something in there for just about anyone and it can make people curious about metal, whereas they may previously have been uninterested.
Anyway, as I'm assuming this style of music is unfamiliar to you, welcome to the wonderful world of heavy metal! We are happy to have you here. 🤘😁
Since you are new around these parts, I just want to share a couple of tips that will help you along your metal journey as well as benefit your channel. To be sure, metalheads are amongst the most open-minded and accepting of any genre of music lovers. You'll find no shortage of helpful denizens ready to point you in whatever direction you want to go. However, there are a couple of things that we are particular about. To save you from getting an unpleasant earful, I've compiled a few tips or bits of advice for any rock or metal song you react to. Trust me - these are meant to protect you and enhance your experience! LOL 😁
    Metal 101
    -----------
    1. Thou shalt not pause during a solo... EVER. This goes for any type of solo, but particularly guitar solos. We tend to worship them. If, for some reason, you absolutely MUST pause, rewind to the beginning of the solo when you resume the music. All will be forgiven then. 😉
    2. This is a reaction channel and we know that pausing is just part of the game. No big deal. Try not to pause for statements like "Wow" or "They are amazing" because we already know that. Take that opportunity to articulate _how_ you feel, and _why_ you feel that way. This type of response promotes conversation and allows us to get to know you. That way, we have a better idea on what kind of music you might enjoy most. And, when you are done with your commentary, just rewind a few seconds before you push Play. That way, you will never miss any interesting transitions, etc.
    3. Also, although this is not the most important, I think it is a good habit to get into... try not to pause during the last say 2 or 3 minutes of a song, if possible. Oftentimes there is a build up, a crescendo, and you don't want to spoil that last moment for yourself. Know what I mean?
    4. Let's talk about a little something called a "breakdown..." Now, I said we kind of worship the solos, which is true. But there's another thing that many of us worship, called a "breakdown." Typically, this comes about halfway to 75% of the way through a song. It is a noticeable slowdown of the tempo, and the bass and guitars become really chuggy sounding. The drums will often have an almost rhythmic marching type of cadence to them. This is prime headbanging time, so enjoy and bang your head along with us! Also, NEVER pause during a breakdown. 👍
    5. One last thing I can think of (maybe others will chime in) and that is to keep an open mind. Metal is likely to have sounds and vocal styles you aren't familiar with. Deep growls, high screams, raspiness, etc. You may not care for some of it at first, but that's because it is new and different. Just be open-minded and be willing to explore music that sounds quite different from what you are accustomed to hearing. 😁
    6. Oh, I did remember one more... HAVE FUN!! This is your channel, never forget. Do what interests you, what makes you happy. Don't let anyone push you around or anything like that. As long as you are enjoying yourself, you're in the right place. 🤘😁

Hey wow, thank you! This is absolutely amazing advice. I have done a few other music reactions over on my other channel. I've reacted to a maybe half a dozen metal songs now including Pantera, Iron Maiden, Sabaton and Jinjer having said that I definitely wouldn't say it is something I "listen to" regularly (with the exception of Carolus Rex by Sabaton).
In my first ever video I was so nervous that I spoke through the entire solo 😵 you can imagine how that was received lol.
I really appreciate all the advice. I'll definitely come back to reread this tomorrow when I sit down to record more content.
Truth be told, I'm far more comfortable reacting to movies than to music and they need to be approached differently so while I'm sure I will get there, I just need more practice.

@@inbedwithmusic2130 Are you kidding? I thought you did a great job! You were honest and genuine. That's what matters. As a community, we come together to share our love of music and there is no room for fraudsters.
So, you mentioned a few good metal experiences from your other channel. May I recommend a few more, each for different reasons?
      1. _Ghost Love Score,_ by Nightwish. This epic song, fronted by one of the best female vocalists in the world, will introduce you to the world of symphonic metal.
      Ghost Love Score - ruclips.net/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/видео.html
      2. _Aaj,_ by Bloodywood. This is an up-and-coming metal band from India. This is to whet your appetite for bands from around the world that incorporate traditional, native instruments and sounds into heavy metal. This group happens to be among my favorites.
      Aaj - ruclips.net/video/kgvH6tX4Ej0/видео.html
      3. _Dance Macabre,_ by Ghost. Now this song isn't exactly metal, per se. It's more hard rock, I suppose. But, this song, and the group in general, is just fun to listen to. They have a distinct 80s vibe that is just infectious. Plus, they challenge people's stereotypes and make you rethink your positions on certain issues. See, it is a Satanist group, sort of. But, when you listen to the music, you might realize it's not what you anticipated. And any time we can challenge our own biases, we tend to grow in a positive way.
      Dance Macabre - ruclips.net/video/7Gr63DiEUxw/видео.html
      4. _Big, Bad Wolf,_ by In This Moment. Now, along the lines of Jinjer, you will find there are some very talented female screamers out there. If and/or when you get brave enough, check out this track. In my opinion, Maria Brink (lead singer) is one of the best out there. Plus, her lyrics are so deep, dark and very personal. She's had a rough life and channels that through her music. So, this track is for when you are ready for the _really_ heavy stuff. Some people never embrace this style, and that's perfectly OK.
      Big Bad Wolf - ruclips.net/video/j-qQ_brIsfY/видео.html
Well, I think that's probably enough for now. Enjoy your new adventure!!

My older brother and I shared a room as kids and he would wake me up in the morning, playing this as loud as he could. As a 10 year old, I found it to be too much, too chaotic. Probably because it was being forced on me. A few years later, I was a bigger fan than him. haha My music tastes went in a heavier direction while his went the other way.
I wore out this cassette and went though a couple of cd copies. Based on the album cover art, I used to think the song was about religion. Turns out it's about cocaine addiction - it should've been obvious - with the lyrics being from the perspective of the addiction itself. If you were in the entertainment business between the 70s and 90s, it was pretty certain there was coke around you. If you weren't doing it, someone around you was.
The whole album is fantastic and I'll bet the majority of long-time fans would say it's their favorite Metallica album. I agree. Are they my favorite band ever? Probably not. I have trouble with deciding who is.
If I can suggest a couple of other songs: Iron Maiden - "Run to the Hills", or if you already know that one, "Wasted Years", and Type O Negative - "Christian Woman" - There are 2 versions of it. The much better album version which is 8:58 long, and a half-length radio edit version called "Christian Woman (Butt-Kissing Sell-out Version)". hahaha

Hahaha what are brothers for if not to annoy the crap out of you? My little brother (who is in his 30s, husband, father, respected job) still gives me trouble on the daily. I wouldn't have it any other way though haha.
I love that without meaning to, yours gifted you Metallica.
Don't feel bad, if I hadn't had the lyrics on the screen in front of me, I probably would have missed the line and not realised at all!
Yes, I remember it being big in the 90s. Unfortunately I was surrounded by it in my childhood.
I love that, thanks for sharing. I also have trouble deciding who my favourite is. I don't even have a favourite song anymore.
I haven't heard Run To The Hills before but I do know the line "run to the hills, run for your life" but I don't know who or what they need to run from lol. I may still do it.
As for the others, I've popped them on my list and noted to find the long version :)

BTW I posted as Rob Reynolds on this the first time but couldn't remember my password so I created another account using my middle name Scott. I subbed to your movie channel as well.I saw where you said somewhere on the movie channel to leave a comment on your favorite lines in a movie but can't find it now. I also saw you do wrestling...love that! I just posted Wrestlemania 25 when Shawn Micheals ends Ric Flair's career. I posted it on 3 of my friends pages. It is epic when Shawn doesn't want to do it but looks at Flair and mouths "I'm Sorry. I love you!" then delivers some Sweet Chin Music to end the match and the way he seemed to be crying when he put his hand on Flair's head" and hugged him. Priceless and moving moment in the WWE! Don't know how much wrestling you watch but the best match I ever saw was Shawn taking on the Undertaker in their first match. Such a great match. Shawn was Mr Wrestlemania! Sorry to go off on your music channel. LOL Please give me directions where to post my favorite movie quotes. Have a great day and I noticed that your subs went up quickly! Keep up the great work!

Yeah Metallica can be very deep and confronting, and overlay it with top quality high pace metal. It's a unique blend and made them kings of the genre. Word of advice - stick to studio recordings with lyric overlays. Live is just them posing and hamming it up for the crowd and you will miss the message in thier songs in amongst all the fireworks and sloppy playing.
Obligatory suggestion - Fade to Black. 1984. Changed the world of metal. BYO Kleenex.
