  • The optimal soil and climate of Colombia's flower-growing regions have made that South American country the world's "flower basket." In fact, 75% of cut flowers imported into the United States are from Colombia. Correspondent Lilia Luciano visits a family farm high atop the mountains outside of Medellin, where four generations have been working the fields; and attends the annual Festival of the Flowers (Feria de las Flores) to celebrate the beauty and bounty of their blooms.

I did not know about the colorful Colombian flowers. I did not know that Colombian flowers are sold all over the world. This is a great report that changes my perception of Colombia entirely.

Would love to see a piece about local American grown flowers!!!! Supporting American jobs, a smaller carbon footprint and resurgence of economic opportunity in rural america are all benefits of local production of flowers. As an american flower farm, we are actively trying to grow the American grown movement to bring more of the flower trade back to the states. The majority of flowers sold in the U.S. should NOT be grown outside of our country!

While I love that specialty crops are getting more attention, I would love to see you cover the booming American-Grown Flower movement. It is a truly beautiful thing.

Apple and oranges. The Rose Parade isn’t centered on just roses-more of a celebration of the city.

Whole Foods beats down the seller on "volume order" then beats down the buyer with a cute sign and extremely overcharging.
Lesson: Buy seeds and grow your own flowers.
