  • It's been a while since I've driven my Gymkhana spec 1978 Ford Escort Mk2, but that changes today as I test three different sets of Toyo Tires on this rad one-of-a-kind Gymkhana course I designed at the Hoonigans' Burnyard - just to find out which tire (Toyo Proxes R1R - Proxes R888R - or Proxes RR) puts down the quickest lap while shredding the hardest at 9,000 rpm.

    **contest entry**
My favorite single scene was at 7:02 where you are explaining the difference between tires, specifically detail in the 888Rs
Favorite split scenes were each of the 3 runs at 9:13, 10:14, and 14:01 where from the very start you can tell slight differences between the tires, most notably between the R1Rs and RRs by less bog at launch with the R1Rs with a slower overall lauch, and more of a bog on RRs with a slight bit more squat in the rear but an overall better launch (even if the rest of the run was a little sloppier and less smooth than the R1Rs).

He had the biggest smile and we probly watched it like 10 times and every time he couldn’t stop laughing. He’s defiantly going to be a car guy, he’s now had 2 open heart surgery’s and going back in for his 3rd and final once this pandemic passes and it safe for him to be there and during his first 2 surgeries your vids kept him smiling and laughing all the way through it. Your a huge inspiration to both of us and watching how much he enjoys you and your cars I couldn’t be a more proud father. Thank you! He’s playing Forza now killing tires in the hoonicorn.

When the audio jumps back to the handheld camera mic and the engine roars as you slide around that turn just gets my adrenaline pumping and then the smooth 180 going into the 540 around the basketball goal shows just how much control you have, and then as you leave the 540 and you step on the pedal just the sound gives me goosebumps. You don't really ever see any rwd stuff you've done in rallying on the channel and personally even if its not my favorite to drive its my favorite to watch. 10:20 is by far an amazing moment, it’s something that can hardly be explained with words and you explain it simply with your precision driving of one of the most legendary rally cars to date, I still remember playing dirt 2 and doing the Colin McRae event and seeing that 43 on the side of a Ford escort as I chased it down, hopefully the crisis we’re in will subside soon so we can see you shred some more, stay safe

Time stamp: 0:00-19:38 The reason being not only was this whole video entertaining but quite informative. Obviously tires matter but it’s interesting to see a driver as skilled as Ken having a harder time with the different tire set ups. It’s cool to see how the different compounds have different effects on driver input and that there wasn’t that exact “perfect tire”. The choice between a tire that provides hardcore grip or a tire that allows you to slide the car is certainly a big factor depending on the course. Regardless, Ken can with shred any tires on and be the king!

Ken: Smashing the limiter tires smoking
Scott: By the way this isn't the actual tire test
I love your love for driving. Your mix of fun, hard work, and professionalism is what makes your brands so rad! Keep rocking!

6:08 you guys taking away the basketball hoop from the king of shredding and 12:56 showing how the tires performance and how much power you need to get the best out of the car. thanks, ken for giving us amazing content for many years and many more years tocome

8:00 I just really enjoyed how you caress the tire and how in-depth you get about the dimensions of the tread. It’s quite admirable.

My favourite moment was at 10:43 when you were doing the 540 round the basket ball hoop with the R888R tyres. The way you make the sleight adjustments to the steering, which you see as the wheels twitch back and fourth, to keep as tight as possible to the base of the hoop is very interesting to watch in my opinion as you can see your technique and exactly how you control the car to shred in such an excellent way. Plus, just after this as you launch back towards the shipping container the engine is making a great sound too.

4:46 Ken: “I like shipping containers” it was just super random and made me laugh, but also they are very versatile, plus they look cool all painted up, you can make just about anything with them

9:52 the way you go around the cones then into the cockpit view to then see how close you get to the obstacle. Just perfect been a fan for awhile. Favourite moment iv’e seen in general is when you drifted real close the edge of the mountain in the mustang hoonicorn. Keep up the great work man.

Hard to pick my favorite moments but they are 1:42 with Scotto laughing and the sweet closeup of the Toyo R888 tires at 7:55. Those tires and beautiful and I loved seeing them close up and personal. Thanks for the chance to win!

03:00 I'm a British Ford fan but got to appreciate a well built vehicle and everyone's got to have there personal touch. Out of all the cars you can get in America you have an appreciation for some top quality British machinery top respect for that 👍

Fav moment easily 9:40, the loop around the basketball hoop looked great from the top of the basket, then the power of the engine coming out of it was great. Nice camera angle too!

10:46 was my favorite scene because that scene proves to all people Ken block is one of the bests drivers and he always does that verry nice scene in gymkhana when he passes a barrel or something verry close (it is so fascinating to see when he does that)

9:11 to 14:54. I think that it was amazing to see that testing different tires to see which is going to give you the best time, but also seeing which is going to have that perfect balance of grip and slip. Like, the fact that the RR's gave the best time while the R1R's gave the most balance of slip and grip, especially since it is RWD rather than being AWD like the badass Hoonicorn (which, by the way, is one of 2 of my favorite cars out of your whole fleet. The other is that Ford Escort Mk2). Also, I agree 100% with you Ken on choosing Rob Parsons to drive the Escort, and the sound that fit the best is the 2.0 I4 Turbo (Focus RSRX)

1:23 - it's a nice action shot of pure fun. The entire video is fun but in that moment, there's no practice, no product testing, no oriented goal, it's just a man behind the wheel of a car he loves, enjoying it's capabilities. It's a note of positivity that the world needs right now.

Robert Parsons with the 2.0L eco boost. He’s done the LS game and would absolutely love to see him rock an escort with mad boost and anti lag. Stoked that Ken name dropped Rob! Amazing how far he has come!
