It's a late night, and what better place to get a snack than a dingy corner store with a teenage attendant. But what's this? A self-checkout? We must live in the future! Surely absolutely nothing will possibly go wrong with this new fangled wonder technology...

This is exactly how I imagined Soldier's first self checkout went.
and his last one too, by the looks of it O_o
I swear, they make it difficult for people on purpose.
He would later eat out a path through the self checkout machine
Soldier's and everybody else's, it seems!
Me: So how's your shopping, Soldier?
*This Video*
Soldier: It's been long, busy, and a long day.
i love how pissed the soldier is at the diet soda at first, but when pointed out that "errr laws my good sir" he immediately goes "oh aight mb" lol
I feel it might be because compliance would be faster than arguing
What’s even funnier is apparently Soldier isn’t even supposed to be able to buy it, since the sign reads “Anyone born on or before today’s date in 1947 MAY NOT buy or consume diet soda” which according to his ID, soldier was born in 1940.
@@jampine8268 That's life advice right there.
Make this a map immediately
no way you turned doublecross basement into a convenience store this is so well decorated and creative
holy crap, I didn't even notice.
Holly shit, I didn't even notice that lol. Had to double check, and yeah it's doublecross basement (blu iirc) lol.
Holy shit
@@kaden-sd6vb ikr
oh my god you're right, it's so well decorated I could not tell lmfao
i like how scout is always portrayed as a gen z teen/kid
Which is funny because he is canonically the only Baby Boomer as the other tf2 mercs are too old.
Lore accurate
@@baconator_x4098 Was he born in the 60s?
He's been portrayed as the youngest generation of every decade since the game has been released.
He has enternal youth
As someone who has worked self check out for 2 years. This is the most accurate representation of those damn machines.
Wait, people work on these? Did they keep you inside of one?
Without the dying part right?
...
Without...the dying part, r-right?
Hey, someone just like me.
@@SneedFeedAndSeed You gotta have at least one monitor to make sure the people going through the self-checkout actually... you know, pay.
They are starting to add a feature where it looks at the shopping cart. Now every single purse in the cart calls the attendant over.
0:55 The extreme burst of escalating anger that your brain hastily processes and dismiss to avoid you from having an episode in public is too relatable.
It's scary how accurate this is, especially the Scout having to come over and over again telling the machine everything's fine
pyro saying thank you when the self checkout is fixed its really funny

0:41 Just, the fuckin pouting turn and stare and Solders whole stance as Scouts makin his way over is just gold.
Soldier is sick of this newfangled technology
😮L
Now I see why everybody hates self checkout...
Sometimes odd issues crop up, that's for sure. Though, things work just fine like 90-95% of the time at the very least, in my experience.
Plus you can steal

I once scanned a mirror and accidentally bought the self checkout machine
Pretty funny seeing Scout always portrayed as Gen Z'er in most animations when he's technically a boomer.
Love that Simpson Hit and Run OST you used.
i love how these characters move, it feels like they're made of jelly.
The slow walking of the employee to fix the machine is just the cherry on top. 😂
I particularly like the id part for some reason.
That smile, that wink.
It’s the “I’m a good and law abiding citizen, officer!” face
Gotta love the attention to detail with making the soldier’s name John Doe on the ID card

@@BarrackObamaReal"unoriginal" - Scout TF2.
i swear your animations get better with each video you make!
I love this new era of weirdly-shaped TF2 characters in animations!
This kinda feels relatable, i also like how he needed an id to buy soda
diet soda and it was totally warranted
my 70 year old grandma was id'd buying sparkling cider last thanksgiving, so thats pretty accurate i guess.
"But it says non-alcoholic right here..."
Honestly soldier probably somehow managed to do some devious shit to make people need to have an Id to buy sodas.
@@SomeGrunt_On_RUclips wouldn't put it past him.
As a retail store worker, I often use the self-checkout machines to buy food or other items for myself. Those tin cans sometimes eat away at precious extra time that I just don’t have, but I usually get done paying for everything in no more than a minute.
1:46 That's the best sound I've heard from Soldier in a while, just this tiny little "eh"
The Pyro thank you thing is why I'm nominating this for a 2024 Best Animated Short Oscar
I think my favorite part of this video is how Soldier is red faced ANGRY at Scout when he is gesturing to the Diet Soda, as if asking "ID FOR WHAT!? SODA!?" but when scout reveals the law stating Diet Soda....*...shouldn't be sold and yet you can still buy it with an ID?*....he just goes "Oh, here you go then" instead.
5 month later and I JUST NOTICED the "Sandwich factory" reference in the display at the begining
fun fact, the self checkout says these:
"Give me your spine"
"D I E N O W"
"No thank you!"
"This video took over..."
"...over 100 hours to make" (impressive!)
"You should sub lol."
as a person who works in retail, self-checkout machines actually suck. too many people dont bother learning how they work and if its explained to them they forget before they come back to buy more things
I'd love to use self-checkout, if not for the fact that they often require personal to confirm your age, so you wait longer than you would if you just did it the old way. Also you cant pay with cash.
@@EasyMoney322 There are self-checkouts that accept cash payments.
@@EasyMoney322 some self-checkout machines do let you pay with cash, the slot for it is usually just way far outta the way. and regardless of going to a normal lane or a self-checkout, your ID still needs to get manually checked most of the time when buying alcohol or smokes.
Self-checkout machines taught me to respect cashiers more, because it made me realize that the checkout machine is really not so easy to operate
@@samuellasky7771 I mean, most of the errors that occur with self-checkouts are safeguards to prevent customers from stealing or doing something malicious.
Cashier POS machines don't have these safeguards, and a good modern POS can be really efficient and fast with a skilled operator.
Me when self checkout
I love when pyro pop up and just said thank you with tumbs up

It's more painful than when a boss kills you right off the bat because your time gets wasted.
The elasticity on your characters are just like snorting glue.
This has to be one of if not the best animation I’ve seen this year, everything down to the animations, expressions and the jokes is just perfect
I lost it when the checkout station packed Soldier into a coffin, very convenient 😂

Yooo Alex Was Good
Hello again!
I work in retail, and this is EXACTLY how it goes. Even the murderous deathtrap at the end!
This is why I hate self-checkout too but sometimes I prefer it over bugging employees
Yeah that seems about right
Can't remember the last time a TF2 animation cracked me up this much.
The vita saw meaning for organ donor Is a nice detail. 1:17
I have a feeling it wasn't voluntarily
I can say without a doubt that this is incredibly accurate. Now just make it where the customer accidentally scans the same item three times, argues about how it's the machines fault and why they want to call corporate on you.
Sometimes it is kinda the machines fault though, the scanner on the bottom scans the barcode on the bottom then the scanner on the side scans the barcode on the side.
I know it's a pinnacle element of these types of animations to have lively and detailed background environments with plenty of little obscure jokes hidden about; but yours always seem to be one step further than the rest. Something about them just has that punch.
This one gives me That Grey Cartoon Pony vibes. Great job!
I am beyond amazed at how well your animation skills have developed here. You've got your style nailed down and your pacing in these videos have really amped up! I doubt you have much left to master in Gmod at this point! Great laughs man, keep it up!
1:47 Yeah i hate that feel too when self-checkout squeezes you threw a fabric of reality instead of simply kiling you.
@@mordur2739 and also makes the sound of your scream so broken.
I work at a store with self checkout and I can confirm this is painfully accurate
I'd use self-checkouts more if, when the staff member has to come over to fix it, a Pyro giving a thumbs up appeared and he said "Thank you."
It'd at least make the experience slightly more bearable.
The expressions are incredible 😂
Literally my parents when the self-check out first came out lol
my favourite part is soldier who keeps staring while walking away, it encapsulates my experience with boomers in grocery stores perfectly
"Would you like a 5p coffin?"
the ID check moment is so fucking accurate, some other day I had to show my ID to buy a fucking non alcoholic drink because it had some caffeine in it and now it's a non alcoholic energy drink that kids would buy so now I have to show my ID so yeah....

- Okay. Can you give me change on a 100 bill?
- "Sorry sir, that is too big for us. You got an exact amount?"
- [Goes to exchange for 50-bill]
- "Sorry, sir. But we don't accept cash these days."
- Huh?! ..A'right, I'll pay with my Card then.
- "Sorry sir, our terminal is broken."
- ....I'll just Mobil-Pay you, then! What's your Store's number?!"
- "Sorry sir, that is too modern for us."
- Want me to write you a damn Check?!
- "Urgh, that is too old-school, sir."
[A wild Manager appears:] What's going on here?
"Urgh, this customer doesn't want to pay, boss."

Definitely one of my favourite animations I have seen lately.
this is actually a really technically impressive animtion!!
The Ed Edd n Eddy style effects make this top tier. Great work!
Yo, you seem to have the potential to be another great TF2 animator. This is an instant gem!
I like how accurate this is (aside from the few obvious things like the diet soda being restricted to 21+, like Alcohol)
i really like this one, the absurdity of needing and id to buy diet cola, the wink while the id was being checked, the thumbs up pyro, the soldier packaged into a coffin by the machine, the soldier obstructing diet in the thumbnail so its just "die", the aperture science debit card, and of course the excellent animation. great stuff
This animation is actually god level for gmod
This is so true self checkout experience! those bloody machines always have some kind of problem
I just hope this channel never ends
This is giving me an unconfirmable feeling of myself shopping at a place like this before.
this takes me back to the gmod days

1:16 Soldier's license says he was born in 1940. Scout is wearing airpods, which were released in late 2016. This means Soldier is in his mid 70s at the very least
I’d prefer to go through what soldier went through than talk to a receptionist only for my card to decline
POV old person trying self checkout for the 10th time:
"FFFFFUUUUUUUUAAUAUAUAUACK" got me
Frightfully accurate depiction of self-checkout
Reminds me a lot of Eltorro's works, and also, surprisingly very relatable, especially the crotch boxing glove.
The thing i hate the most about self checkout here is that you can't cancel stuff yourself... Aside from that though, it's pretty good. If i don't take any alcohol, usually there's no need for any help from the cashier at all! Very quick and readily available too, even in supermarket rush hours.
Probably the most relatable video on your channel.
Holy crap, you changed Doublecross's sewers so much! Thats the power of Gmodders
I'm really glad to see lesser known sfmtubers getting their proper spotlight, you people are animation wizards
Sad that good animators like this go underrated
oh my god man. This is amazing. So nostalgic but also refreshing in the gmod tf2 video sphere. Awesome video!
I love soldier's little reassuring wink at 1:17, it feels like something that a 50 year old dad would actually do when verifying ID
I love that the sandwiches in the store have a continuity with sandwich factory.
A new GMod/ SFM creator has entered the arena! Amazing work, brother!
this is an oddly well-made representation of a self checkout 😭
I can totally relate as I’m the overseer for my Self checkout at work. People don’t know how these are programmed. Nobody at SCO have no patience. Sure, there can be errors here and there but they have to understand that nothing is perfect. Let me do my job and on your way.
god, this one of my favorite sfm now
The visual gags in this one are off the charts
My favorite part is usually "INSERT CASH OR SELECT PAYMENT TYPE" With the cadence and decibel count of a fucking aircraft engine.
