The sample is also used in Fatboy Slim's 1998 track Acid 8000, which is where we heard and recognized it. Fun fact, The Prodigy also used samples from that pack, just not Beat 27 (I think).
Half-Life's soundtrack was largely snipped together by Kelly Bailey in Acid Pro and uses a lot of sample library runs and hits that you can also hear in a lot of 2000s movie soundtracks. It's kind of funny to me, as an amateur composer myself, that someone could put together such a bangin' soundtrack as HL's basically by the method of digital sample collage. It's slapdash, a soundtrack out of a can, but it's also thematic perfection. I love it.
WELSHGAMER PRODUCTIONS As much as I'd like to claim that I did that all because of my awesomeness (Don't get me wrong, I am awesome) that's mostly because the soldiers were stupid and most of the aliens sucked. I think the art direction is really excellent, but I will agree that the model and texture qualities are lacking even for the time. I still play with the old models for that old school charm though
i wasn't really a gamer when half-life was around on account of being 3 at the time but now that i've played it i find its music to be pretty ahead of its time but that may just be on account of the fact that the soundtrack actually paces its self based on the situation as oppose to just playing constantly throughout the level like in other shooters of the time.
